To start the free Fists of Fury DLC in Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon, update the game to the release Questline and Awaken Realms call patch 1.30, then find the mysterious traveler (also described as a hermit) in the Horns of the South and take his lessons. Those lessons begin the new unarmed-combat questline. The official announcement does not give a precise map marker or a prerequisite quest.
How to start the Fists of Fury DLC
- Update the game. The official announcement presents patch 1.30 and the free Fists of Fury DLC as releasing together. The title’s “1.3.0” wording refers to the same release discussed here; the announcement formats it as “1.30.”
- Travel to the Horns of the South. Look for the mysterious traveler, whom the announcement also calls a hermit. It does not identify an exact location or map coordinate.
- Speak with the traveler and take his lessons. This starts the questline, which teaches and tests an unarmed fighting style against Avalon’s threats.
What the update adds
Fists of Fury adds an unarmed-combat questline, fistfighting weapons, armor and other gear, and a new skill tree under Strength. Questline describes unarmed combat as a fully supported build with its own weapon category, gear, skill tree and dedicated teacher.

Patch 1.30 also includes optimization, general fixes and improvements, plus two graphics modes for Steam Deck. The developer estimates gains of 5–30 FPS on PC, Steam Deck and Steam Machine depending on setup, and around 2 FPS on consoles. It describes Steam Deck Quality mode as targeting about 30 FPS and Performance mode as targeting 35–40 FPS. These are developer estimates, not guaranteed results or independent test measurements.

- Confirm the game has updated to the release announced as 1.30.
- Check the DLC or entitlement listing for the platform you use. The announcement explicitly says Xbox Play Anywhere is supported and existing Xbox owners need do nothing extra for the patch and free DLC.
- For Steam and PlayStation, the announcement does not provide equivalent installation or entitlement instructions. Check the platform’s update and DLC listing rather than assuming the Xbox process applies.
The official announcement does not state that a new save is required, and it does not name a prerequisite quest. It also does not provide a more precise spawn point than the Horns of the South.
