A tablet that will not charge does not necessarily have a broken charging port. First check the cable and adapter, then inspect the port without probing or forcing anything into it. If the port is loose, bent, burned, melted, corroded, or visibly damaged—or the tablet becomes unusually hot—stop charging and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repairer.
Check whether the cable or adapter is the problem
Try a compatible cable and power adapter that work with another device, and follow the tablet maker’s charging instructions. Check that the cable connector fits normally in the tablet. A loose fit can indicate port damage, but charging trouble alone does not prove the port has failed.

With the tablet unplugged, look for visible debris or damage. Do not force the cable, scrape inside the port, or use metal pins or liquids. If debris is visible, follow the manufacturer’s instructions rather than treating debris removal as a way to repair internal damage.

For Pixel Tablet, Google says to gently tap the tablet against a hand with the charging port facing down if debris is present. Google also says, “If you notice your charging port is loose, contact us.” Its advice applies to Pixel Tablet, not every tablet model.
Know when to stop and seek repair
Stop using the port if it is loose, bent, burned, melted, corroded, or visibly damaged. Also stop if the tablet becomes unusually hot while charging. Do not keep trying different angles or pushing the connector in; contact the manufacturer’s support channel or a qualified repairer.

A manufacturer’s support route is particularly appropriate when its guidance directs owners to contact support for the damage they see. For other tablets, consult that maker’s official support rather than assuming Google’s Pixel instructions apply.

Tablet charging ports are not universal. Before looking for a part or teardown, identify the exact model and variant in the device settings, on its packaging, or on its regulatory label. Check that both the part and guide explicitly match that model and variant.

- An iFixit guide for Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 identifies a port component for that tablet and advises troubleshooting other causes and cleaning the old port before replacement.
- The Galaxy Tab S7+ charging daughterboard guide is for the Wi-Fi model and distinguishes it from the 5G version. Do not assume their parts or steps are interchangeable.
- An iFixit guide covers the iPad Pro 13-inch (M5) and says to try another cable and clean the port before replacement. It should not be treated as a guide for other iPad models.
Understand the risk before attempting a DIY replacement
Replacing a port can involve much more than cleaning: some model-specific procedures require heating and lifting an adhesive display, disconnecting internal cables and the battery, and fitting new adhesive. A display can be damaged during removal, and steps differ by tablet.
The Galaxy Tab S7+ Wi-Fi guide specifically warns that its display is sensitive, requires screen removal to reach the charging daughterboard, and says the device will lose its IP rating after repair. That warning is specific to this model and guide, not a claim about every tablet. The Pixel Tablet guide also documents a model-specific teardown and battery-safety preparation. These examples are not a universal beginner procedure: do not pry, heat, or solder an unidentified tablet based on instructions for another model.

Choose between professional service and DIY

If you cannot verify the model-specific part and procedure, or are not prepared to risk display damage and altered sealing, have the device assessed by the manufacturer or a qualified repairer.
