Synth Riders Leaderboard FAQ: Offline Scores, Resets, Cross-Platform Play and Anti-Cheat

By Freedom251 Team · · 7 min read

Short answer: Synth Riders does not save or submit leaderboard scores made in offline mode. A reinstall can erase local play counts and center-panel best-score displays without deleting a score already stored on the online leaderboard. Before assuming a record vanished, check whether you are viewing Combined or Modified results, whether the run used the original map, and whether the game was connected when you finished.

Multiplayer supports cross-platform play among Steam, Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest in the documented release, and multiplayer-lobby scores feed unified leaderboards. The public material does not describe a particular anti-cheat algorithm, detection threshold or appeal process.

Do Synth Riders scores save when you play offline?

Offline play is deliberately excluded from leaderboard submission

The official Synth Riders release notes state: “In this mode, scores will not be saved or submitted.” You can still play songs while the game is offline, but the run is not treated as a pending leaderboard submission.

That distinction matters if you reconnect later. The documented rule does not promise that an offline run will be uploaded retroactively. If a particular score matters, establish a working connection before starting the attempt and leave the game connected long enough for the result to submit.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

How to avoid losing an important run

  1. Confirm that your headset, PC or console has internet access before launching the song.
  2. Enter the normal connected game session rather than an offline mode or a session that has lost service connectivity.
  3. Finish the song and wait for the result screen to complete its submission process.
  4. Check the relevant leaderboard view before closing the game.

If the service connection fails during the result screen, treat the run as unsubmitted until you can verify an entry on the board. Do not assume that reconnecting hours later will recover it.

Why local best scores can reset while an online score remains

Two separate kinds of data

Synth Riders presents some statistics from local device data and other results from the network leaderboard. Local information includes play counts and the best-score display shown in the center panel. Online leaderboard entries are stored separately by the service.

What you are checking Where it is represented What a reset usually means
Center-panel best score or play count Local game data on the device Uninstalling, reinstalling, restoring a backup or overwriting local data can remove the display.
Song leaderboard entry Online service data A missing local display does not, by itself, indicate that the network entry was deleted.
A run made without service connectivity Neither a local submission record nor a server entry is guaranteed The score may never have been submitted.

A 2023 troubleshooting explanation describes this separation directly: uninstalling and reinstalling can overwrite local data without resetting network scores. Therefore, use the leaderboard itself—not only the center panel—to determine whether a connected score still exists.

What reinstalling cannot restore

Reinstalling the game can give you a clean local profile, so historical play counts and local best-score panels may start over. Restoring those displays requires whatever local backup or account-sync mechanism your platform supports; the documented leaderboard behavior does not state that the game reconstructs every local statistic from the server.

How to diagnose a missing high score

Work through these checks in order. Each one tests a different reason an entry can appear to have disappeared.

  1. Check the online board, not just the center panel. A local reset can hide a personal best while leaving the server entry intact.
  2. Verify the connection state at the end of the run. Offline mode does not save or submit scores, and a service failure can have the same practical result.
  3. Switch to Combined. This view includes scores regardless of modifiers. If you were looking at Modified, a run made with different modifiers will not be listed there.
  4. Review the selected modifiers, mode and difficulty. Community leaderboard pages can expose additional Official and Any views plus mode and difficulty filters. A filter can narrow the list without deleting anything.
  5. Confirm the exact map. A custom song’s leaderboard belongs to its map identity. If the map was edited, the game can create a new leaderboard for the edited version.
  6. Check the game build and platform synchronization. Updates can affect multiplayer synchronization and player-level updates. A 2026 patch archive records fixes in those areas, so an older build may display or synchronize differently from a current one.

Use the symptom to choose the next check

Symptom Most useful comparison Likely explanation supported by the documentation
Play count and center-panel best score are gone after reinstall Local panel versus the online song board Local data was overwritten; the network entry may still be present.
Score appears in one board but not another Combined versus Modified, plus modifiers The selected view is filtering by modifier configuration.
Only an edited custom song is affected Original map versus edited map The edit created a different map and therefore a different leaderboard.
No online entry ever appeared Connected versus offline run The run was offline or the service connection failed before submission.
Multiplayer results look inconsistent between players Platform and game-build versions Synchronization behavior can change with updates.

Combined and Modified leaderboards: the filter that hides scores

Combined

The official notes define Combined as the view containing all scores regardless of modifiers. It is the broadest view when you want to find a personal best without first remembering the exact modifier setup.

Modified

Modified shows scores made with the modifiers currently selected. A score can be valid and visible in Combined yet absent from Modified because the selected modifiers do not match the run.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When checking a disputed result, first return to Combined, then reproduce the song’s mode, difficulty and modifier selection. Third-party community views may also separate Official and Any maps and provide their own mode and difficulty filters, so make sure the board you are reading corresponds to the map and ruleset you actually played.

Why changing a custom map creates a different leaderboard

Leaderboard identity is tied to the song’s map, not merely to the title displayed in your library. Official notes explain that changing a custom map creates a new leaderboard. Even a small edit can therefore make an older score seem to vanish: the old result belongs to the original map, while the edited file points to a new board.

Before comparing two custom-song scores

  • Use the same map file, not just a file with the same song name.
  • Check whether the mapper has published an updated version.
  • Compare the map’s mode and difficulty settings as well as the song title.
  • Look for both the original and edited map entries when a community board offers separate Official and Any categories.

This map-specific behavior prevents results from different chart versions from being mixed, but it also means that replacing or editing a map changes where future scores are recorded.

Can Steam, Oculus Rift and Oculus Quest players play together?

Documented cross-platform multiplayer

The official multiplayer announcement says: “Multiplayer will be cross-platform compatible and so you’ll be able to challenge your friends on Steam, Oculus Rift, and Oculus Quest!” That statement establishes cross-platform multiplayer for those platforms in the documented release.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How multiplayer scores reach the boards

Official notes say scores from multiplayer lobbies are saved into unified leaderboards. A result earned in a lobby is therefore handled as part of the shared leaderboard system rather than being confined to a platform-specific board.

Cross-platform support is a product feature that can be adjusted by later updates. If friends on different platforms cannot join the same room or see synchronized results, compare their game versions, sign-in state and current network connection before concluding that the feature has been removed.

PlayStation VR2 context

The current PlayStation listing describes global leaderboards and online multiplayer for up to ten players on PS VR2. That listing confirms those features for the PlayStation edition, but it does not by itself establish cross-play with every other platform. Treat PlayStation cross-platform availability as an edition- and update-specific question rather than assuming that the Steam/Oculus announcement applies unchanged.

What platform and build differences can change

Leaderboard and multiplayer behavior is not completely static. A 2026 patch archive records fixes for multiplayer synchronization and platform player-level updates. Such fixes can affect when a result appears, how player information is refreshed or how a lobby state is shared across platforms.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

When troubleshooting with friends, record the platform, game version, map version, mode, difficulty and modifier set. Compare like for like before reporting a missing result. If one player is on an older build, updating both installations is the least ambiguous test; otherwise, a display or synchronization defect can look like a score reset.

How Synth Riders anti-cheat works—and what is publicly known

Documented controls

The public official material documents several server-side rules: offline results are not submitted, Combined and Modified boards separate modifier configurations, custom-map edits create separate leaderboards, and multiplayer-lobby scores enter unified leaderboards. Together, these rules define when and where a result is eligible to appear.

What is not published

The located official material does not specify an anti-cheat algorithm, client detector, statistical threshold, review team, automatic-removal rule or appeal workflow. It would be inaccurate to claim that the game uses a particular memory scanner, replay analysis method or score cutoff.

The safest description is that leaderboard validity is controlled by the online service and its board and configuration rules. If a suspicious score is visible or a legitimate score is absent, the available documentation does not provide a public technical explanation of how detection or removal decisions are made.

A concise recovery checklist

  1. Open the song’s online leaderboard and ignore the local center-panel number for the first check.
  2. Select Combined, then clear or match the modifiers used for the run.
  3. Confirm the song map, including whether a custom chart was edited or replaced.
  4. Verify mode, difficulty and any Official/Any filter used by the leaderboard view.
  5. Check that the run finished with an active service connection; offline runs are not submitted.
  6. Update the game on every platform involved in a multiplayer session and retry synchronization.
  7. If the score still cannot be found, preserve the map version, platform, build, date and result-screen details when contacting the game’s support channel. Those details identify the board and submission conditions without assuming that the score was deleted.
