To get a Swiss IP address, connect to a VPN server located in Switzerland. Websites reached through that tunnel then see a Swiss public address instead of your own. If you need a Zurich address specifically, choose a provider that lists Zurich as its own selectable server, because a generic “Switzerland” label does not by itself confirm the city.
This article does not report speed or location tests run by our own team. The performance figures come from Comparitech’s published Switzerland-route page, updated September 20, 2026. Provider infrastructure details come from each provider’s own pages, and privacy statements are attributed to the provider that made them.

What a Swiss IP address changes, and what it does not
A VPN replaces the public IP address that websites see with the address of the exit server you connect to. If that exit server is in Switzerland, sites that geolocate by IP will generally place your connection in Switzerland. The change applies to the traffic that travels through the tunnel. It does not change who you are to a service you have signed in to, because your account, cookies and payment details still identify you.

A provider can be accurate about the first and still leave the second unproven, which is why the location list matters more than the marketing label.

How to get a Swiss or Zurich IP address
- Pick a provider that lists a Swiss or Zurich server in its own location list. ExpressVPN’s Switzerland page says its network includes Zurich, and OVPN documents a Zurich location (both are covered below).
- Install the provider’s app on your device and sign in with your account.
- Open the location list, search for “Switzerland” or “Zurich,” and select the server. ExpressVPN’s Swiss page recommends using its in-app speed test to choose a Switzerland server when you are outside the country.
- Connect and wait until the app shows a connected status before opening a browser.
- Open an IP lookup page in your browser and check the country. Expected result: Switzerland, and Zurich if the lookup tool shows a city. City labels from lookup tools are estimates, so read them alongside the verification steps later in this article.
- If the address still shows your home country, disconnect and reconnect, restart the browser, and make sure no other VPN or proxy extension is running at the same time.
Providers that name Zurich
OVPN
OVPN’s Zurich page says it rents two rack units at Interxion’s data center at Sägereistrasse 35 in Zurich. It states a 3 Gbit/s uplink to M247 and transit or peering with Cogent, Telia and SwissIX. The company describes its Zurich connection as assigning a Swiss IP address, and its location list is marked current as of September 5, 2026.
Standard OVPN service gives you a shared IP address through NAT, which means many users share one public address. Public IPv4 addresses are sold as an add-on for uses that need several ports opened, such as hosting or port forwarding. If your use depends on a dedicated address or inbound connections, confirm the add-on before you sign up. OVPN lists OpenVPN and WireGuard for its Zurich server.

ExpressVPN
ExpressVPN’s Switzerland page says its network includes Zurich and presents its Swiss servers as a way to obtain a Swiss IP address. Treat this as the provider’s own statement. The page does not establish the physical rack location of any server, and it is not an independent check of that location.

The table below reproduces Comparitech’s Switzerland-route figures, last updated September 20, 2026. These are third-party measurements of routes to Switzerland, not results from our own tests, and the source’s conditions apply to every value in it.

How to read each column
- Speed retention is the share of your unprotected speed that remains once traffic runs through the tunnel.
- Idle latency is round-trip time measured while the link is not loaded.
- Loaded latency is the median increase over each sample’s own idle reading while the link is saturated. It is an added delay, not a total latency, so a low number here does not mean the connection is fast overall.
- Connection time is a median taken only from successful connections. Failed attempts are excluded, so the figure may flatter providers that fail often.
Limits of these figures
- The values describe Comparitech’s Switzerland route on the date shown. They do not describe other countries, other server cities, or your own connection.
- Single columns can mislead. A provider with high speed retention can still have a high loaded latency, and the reverse is also true. Compare the columns against the use you care about, such as video calls or large downloads.
- Where a cell reads “not stated,” Comparitech’s page did not give a value for that provider on that measure, so no ranking can be drawn from that cell.
Can latency or IP geolocation prove a server is in Zurich?
Neither is conclusive on its own. Latency reflects routing and peering as well as distance, so the physically nearest probe can show a higher round-trip time if traffic takes an indirect path. Geolocation databases can also place a correctly located server in the wrong city if the probe or database entry is wrong.
IVPN’s guide on verifying server locations describes these failure modes. It also reports that IVPN confirmed with its provider that its Swiss servers are in Zurich. That is IVPN’s own reported confirmation for its servers, not an audit of every provider. To check a claim yourself, use this sequence:

- Compare the country and city results across at least two IP lookup tools. Disagreement on the city is common and should be treated as uncertainty.
- Measure latency from more than one location and look at the pattern, rather than relying on the single lowest ping.
- Treat the provider’s location list as a claim to verify, and check whether the provider publishes infrastructure details such as the data center and uplink, as OVPN does.
Privacy and Swiss jurisdiction
Proton’s transparency report, last modified January 6, 2026, says Proton VPN is not obligated under Swiss law to save activity logs. It states: “Under Swiss law, Proton VPN is not obligated to save any activity logs, and we adhere to a strict no-logs VPN policy.” The report also says legal requests counted in it must come through official Swiss channels, and it lists 59 legal requests and 59 denials for 2025.

Choosing a provider by what you need
- You need a named Zurich server: choose a provider whose location list shows Zurich, such as OVPN or ExpressVPN, and confirm it in the app before you pay.
- You need an address that does not change with other users, or inbound ports: OVPN’s standard shared NAT address will not meet that need. Check whether the public IPv4 add-on is available and priced for your use.
- You care most about low idle latency on the Swiss route: in Comparitech’s table, the lowest idle readings belong to NordVPN and Surfshark, with Proton VPN’s reading noticeably higher.
- You care about the scope of a privacy claim: use the provider’s own transparency report and policy, and apply its statements only to that provider.
The Bottom Line
For a Swiss IP address, any VPN server in Switzerland will do. For a Zurich IP address, choose a provider that lists Zurich explicitly, connect, confirm the result in an IP lookup tool, and treat speed, latency and privacy claims as statements from their named sources rather than guarantees.
