Suunto Run 2 Review: A Lightweight Runner With Maps and Music

The Suunto Run 2 is a 35 g running watch with dual-band GPS, offline maps and onboard music storage. Its strongest case is the mix of those training features with a bright AMOLED display; the trade-offs to weigh are software issues reported in one two-week review and the choice between 4GB and 64GB storage. Battery life also depends heavily on GPS and display settings, so no single runtime figure applies to every workout.

What the Suunto Run 2 offers

Suunto positions the Run 2 for running and marathon training. It has a 1.32-inch AMOLED display rated at 2,000 nits, a stainless-steel bezel, Gorilla Glass and a glass-fibre-reinforced polyamide case. The watch body weighs 35 g; Suunto lists 53 g with the silicone strap. Its dimensions are 46.5 × 46.5 × 11.66 mm, and its water-resistance rating is 5 ATM. Suunto’s product listing has the detailed specifications and box contents.

For location tracking, Suunto lists dual-band L1+L5 GNSS support for GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, BeiDou and QZSS. The watch also includes offline maps, more than 32 pre-installed sport modes and onboard music storage. Suunto says stored music can be played through wireless headphones; this is not evidence of music streaming. The listed box contents include a 22 mm Athletic 6 silicone strap and a USB-C charging cable. Suunto’s Run 2 overview describes the product’s headline features.

Battery life depends on the settings

Suunto publishes different maximum runtimes for different tracking modes. These are manufacturer claims, not guarantees of the duration a particular runner will get:

The figures describe different conditions and should not be treated as interchangeable. For a useful estimate, match your expected GPS mode and whether you keep the display always on to the relevant claim, then allow for your own usage. Suunto’s product listing gives the GNSS-mode figures; the overview gives the daily-training claim.

What one independent review found

Tom’s Guide says its reviewer used the Run 2 for two weeks while tracking daily runs and other workouts. The reviewer was impressed by its accuracy, battery life and design, but also reported confusing software, bugs during testing and smart features that lag Garmin’s. These are that reviewer’s observations, not a controlled accuracy result or a guarantee of how every owner will experience the watch. The review does not provide a detailed, reproducible GPS test protocol or numerical accuracy data. Read the Tom’s Guide review.

Choose between 4GB and 64GB

Suunto lists the Run 2 in 4GB and 64GB storage configurations for maps and music. The larger version is a storage choice; the available information does not establish a difference in the watches’ core GPS or display specifications. If you expect to keep more maps or music on the watch, storage capacity is the practical distinction to investigate. Check the exact variant on the local product page and on the retailer’s listing before ordering: Suunto’s cited product page is specifically for the All Black 4GB model.

Tom’s Guide reported September 8, 2026 launch prices of $349/£265 for 4GB and $399/£299 for 64GB. These are launch figures reported by the publication, not verified current prices. Check local listings for today’s price and availability before deciding whether the extra storage is worth the difference. The review also cited the original Run’s launch price of $249/£199; that historical figure is not a current price comparison.

Is the Suunto Run 2 worth it?

It is a plausible fit for runners who want dual-band GNSS, offline maps, stored music and a light watch, and who are comfortable with a running-focused device rather than leading-edge smartwatch features. The bright display and multiple GPS battery claims give buyers concrete specifications to compare against their routines. The caution is software: Tom’s Guide reported confusing menus and bugs in its review, so readers who prioritize a polished day-to-day interface should take that account into consideration.

Tom’s Guide discusses the COROS PACE 4 and Garmin Forerunner 170 as alternatives, but its cited comparison does not establish a current best-value ranking. Before choosing among them, compare local current prices, storage, offline mapping and navigation, GPS runtime under equivalent settings, everyday battery, display, weight, music support, smart features, software maturity and sensor compatibility. Suunto announced its Smart Heart Rate Belt 2 alongside the Run 2, but the cited material does not establish exact compatibility with the watch; confirm compatibility directly before buying that accessory. Suunto’s launch announcement covers the announcement context.
