One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchThere is no universal winner: Surfshark is the stronger fit if you need one subscription for many devices or want a lower listed two-year offer, while ExpressVPN may suit you better if its device and router support matches your setup. Compare the exact plan, full checkout total and renewal terms before deciding; the figures and test results below are dated findings, not permanent guarantees.

These prices come from Surfshark’s provider-authored comparison, rather than a neutral price survey. TechRadar reported different Surfshark figures for some tiers and promotions, so do not assume the listed offers are available in every region or remain unchanged. Compare matching tiers and the amount charged today, promotional duration, taxes, and renewal price at checkout.
Which service makes more sense for your devices?
Choose Surfshark if many devices share one account
TechRadar’s January 2026 comparison reports unlimited simultaneous connections for Surfshark, compared with ExpressVPN’s tier-dependent limit. That can make Surfshark a practical option for a household with many phones, computers and tablets. Confirm the current plan terms before purchase, since connection limits are product and plan details that can change.
Check ExpressVPN first for a specific device or router
Security.org’s 2026 comparison describes ExpressVPN router firmware and MediaStreamer support, and lists Kindle compatibility for ExpressVPN but not Surfshark. Those are useful distinctions only if they match your actual setup: check the current app or support documentation for your exact Kindle model, router, streaming device and operating system. MediaStreamer is a compatibility feature, not a substitute for checking whether the VPN app itself runs on a device.

Security.org lists ExpressVPN at 3,000+ servers in 105 countries, while Surfshark itself claims 4,500+ servers in 100 countries. These are differently sourced network figures—not an independent, like-for-like measure of speed or coverage. Security.org’s ExpressVPN comparison and Surfshark’s comparison give the respective claims.
How to interpret the privacy and security evidence
No-logs audits are scoped snapshots
TechRadar reports 2025 independent no-logs audits for both providers, and Surfshark’s comparison names Deloitte for Surfshark and KPMG for ExpressVPN. An audit can provide evidence about the systems and period examined; it does not prove that every product component was covered or guarantee future behavior. Consider the audit date and scope rather than treating the number of audits as a complete privacy ranking. TechRadar’s comparison and Surfshark’s comparison.

Kill-switch findings depend on the test scenario
TechRadar says both services passed its forced-app-crash test. RTINGS’ July 2026 comparison reports that Surfshark’s kill switch leaked some data after a system reboot. These findings concern different test scenarios, so they are not necessarily contradictory: an app-crash test and a reboot test probe different failure conditions. Neither result establishes what will happen on every operating system or network. TechRadar’s test; RTINGS’ comparison.
Why speed rankings do not settle the choice
TechRadar reported higher Surfshark speed results than ExpressVPN in its tested setup. Security.org reported different results, a reminder that VPN speed depends on the test method, server location, protocol, network conditions and date. Neither source supports a universal speed winner. If speed is your priority, look for results close to your location and intended use, and test the service on your own connection where possible.

A practical decision checklist
- Compare the right plans: Match subscription length and tier, then compare the full amount charged now and the stated renewal price—not just the monthly equivalent in an offer.
- Count connections: Estimate how many devices need to be connected at once, then verify the selected plan’s current limit.
- Confirm device fit: Check support for your exact operating system, router and other devices before subscribing, especially if you depend on Kindle support, router firmware or MediaStreamer.
- Weigh privacy evidence carefully: Note who conducted an audit, when it happened and what it covered; distinguish audit claims from independent hands-on or lab tests.
- Match performance evidence to your use: Treat speed results as test-specific and prioritize the locations, protocols and network conditions relevant to you.
Jennifer Allen’s hands-on comparison for The Independent describes signing up for both services and using them on home and public Wi-Fi while assessing usability and features. That provides a separate practical perspective, but it does not replace checking compatibility and current terms for your own devices. Read The Independent’s comparison.
