Surfshark’s privacy offer is a subscription VPN built around a published no-logs policy, RAM-only servers, and independent assurance reports commissioned from Deloitte. The policy still describes limited connection details held temporarily and deleted within 15 minutes after a session ends, so “no logs” should not be read as a promise of complete anonymity. Surfshark’s displayed plans and prices are promotional snapshots that can change by location, tax status, account and date.
Does Surfshark keep logs?
Surfshark’s privacy policy says it does not collect visited IP addresses, browsing history, session information, bandwidth, connection timestamps, network traffic or similar activity data. Those exclusions cover the activity records most people mean when asking whether a VPN tracks their browsing.

The same policy describes a limited exception: servers may temporarily retain details about a connection to a particular VPN server, such as a user ID and/or IP address and connection timestamps. Surfshark says this information is automatically deleted within 15 minutes after the session ends. That is different from retaining a long-term browsing history, but it means the phrase “no logs” needs to be understood alongside the policy’s short-lived operational data.
What the assurance reports establish
Surfshark says Deloitte provided no-logs assurance reports in 2023 and 2025. Its public feature material summarizes those assessments and says the full 2025 report is available to Surfshark users. Unless you have access to the complete report, treat the public page as Surfshark’s summary of a third-party assessment rather than as the full audit evidence.

Is Surfshark VPN private?
A VPN can reduce exposure by encrypting traffic between your device and the VPN service and by masking your public IP address from sites you visit. Surfshark also describes a kill switch and other security features. Those protections do not make you anonymous: Surfshark can still process account and service information, websites can identify you through logins or browser fingerprinting, and a VPN does not protect against every form of tracking or malware.
Surfshark says its servers use RAM-only storage, a design intended to avoid persistent disk storage of server data. That is a technical property of the infrastructure, not independent proof that every privacy risk is eliminated. The practical privacy question remains what data the service collects, why it collects it, how long it retains it and whether its controls are independently assessed.

When router setup makes sense
- Use the native app when your computer, phone or streaming device is supported; it is usually simpler to manage.
- Consider manual or router setup for devices that cannot install a VPN client or for whole-home coverage.
- Confirm firmware, protocol and model compatibility first; a router is optional, not a requirement for a normal Surfshark subscription.
How to judge Surfshark’s privacy offer
- Read the policy, not just the headline. Check both the activity-data exclusions and the 15-minute deletion statement for temporary connection details.
- Check assurance scope and date. Surfshark names Deloitte reports from 2023 and 2025; determine what systems and claims the report actually examined.
- Separate privacy from anonymity. A VPN masks an IP address and can encrypt the VPN connection, but it cannot stop identification through accounts, cookies, fingerprints or unsafe behavior.
- Compare total cost. Include VAT, the full upfront charge, renewal price and the refund terms shown for your country and purchase route.
- Match the bundle to your needs. Choose Starter if the VPN and Alternative ID are sufficient; pay for One or One+ only if Alert, Search, Antivirus or Incogni provide value you will use.
Bottom line for prospective subscribers
Surfshark presents a credible, clearly stated privacy position: it says it avoids collecting browsing and connection-activity logs, operates RAM-only servers and has published Deloitte assurance reports for 2023 and 2025. Its policy also acknowledges narrowly defined connection details that are deleted within 15 minutes, and none of the service’s features guarantees anonymity. The subscription can be attractive when the current total price and included bundle fit your needs, but treat promotional pricing and plan contents as changeable and verify them at checkout.
