The best superhero toy depends on who will play with it and how. A 4+ poseable Batman figure, a 12+ Spider-Man hero figure and a 813-piece LEGO build are all sensible gifts, but they serve different children and different adults. Tom’s Guide’s roundup of 15 DC and Marvel toys, published September 29, 2026, covers that range, from action figures and masks to playsets, multi-figure packs and LEGO sets. Below, the picks are grouped by play format, with age grades and safety cautions set out first, because those decide whether a toy is suitable at all.
Start with the age grade and the small-parts warning
Age labels on superhero toys are not interchangeable, and the difference matters more than the character. Before you compare figures or prices, check the age mark on the product page. The two Mattel Batman figures in this guide both carry a 4+ grade, but the figures are not the same kind of toy, and their cautions differ.

- Mattel DC Premier Batman (UK listing) is labelled 4+ and carries a small-parts warning. Keep it away from children under three.
- Mattel DC Crime Crusher Batman (UK listing) is labelled 4+ and carries a button-cell battery caution. Check the battery compartment is secured before giving it to a young child.
- LEGO Spider-Man Hero Figure 76346 (US listing) is guided for ages 12+. LEGO’s Spider-Man category as a whole spans sets from 4+ up to adult 18+ ranges, so the age mark on each individual box is the one that counts.
Where a product page gives a grade and a warning, the warning is the manufacturer’s own labelling and should be treated as the rule for that product.
Poseable action figures: Batman and Spider-Man
The Mattel DC Premier Batman is a 6.5-inch figure with 22 articulation points, a cape and accessories. The size and joint count make it a good everyday play figure for a child who wants to pose and move the character, and it is the most compact of the Batman options here.
#1 Best Overall
- LARGE-SCALE MARVEL ACTION FIGURE: This Spider-Man toy stands 11.5-inches (29.2 cm) tall and features design inspired by Spider-Man: Brand New Day, part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
- ICONIC MARVEL CHARACTERS: Titan Series Spider-Man toys feature beloved characters, including Spider-Man, Black Suit Spider-Man, Ghost-Spider, Miles Morales, and Venom
- POSEABLE FIGURE: This Spider-Man figure features 11 points of articulation, so kids can pose it for exciting wallcrawling adventures they imagine
- ENCOURAGES IMAGINITIVE PLAY: Marvel Titan Series toys encourage creative, imaginative play, so kids ages 4 and up can imagine their own web-slinging stories and battles with this figure
- COLLECTIBLE PACKAGING: This Marvel Spider-Man action figure comes in collectible packaging that features entertainment-inspired design, which will look awesome on display
The Mattel DC Crime Crusher Batman is a different proposition. It stands 12 inches tall, has 16 articulation points, and adds 25+ phrases and sounds, plus four weapons. Fewer joints but a larger body and built-in audio suit a child who wants a figure that reacts during play. The trade-off is the battery: the sound feature depends on a button-cell battery, which is the reason for the caution above.
Spider-Man and Miles Morales appear in the roundup as further action-figure picks. Both sit within the same poseable-figure category, so compare them on size, joint count and included accessories on each product page rather than assuming they match the Mattel figures.

Building sets: when a LEGO kit is the better gift
A building set gives a different kind of play. The LEGO Spider-Man Hero Figure 76346 has 813 pieces, 24 articulation points and stands over 14.5 inches tall. It includes a companion minifigure and detachable webs. Assembly takes time, so this suits a child or adult who enjoys building, and it is less suited to a child who wants to start playing straight away.

Masks, playsets and multi-character packs
The roundup also includes masks, playsets and packs that bring several characters together. These picks are less about a single figure and more about the scene a child builds around it. Masks and playsets often carry their own small parts and age warnings, so read the box or listing before buying for a young child. Multi-character packs are useful when a family wants to buy one gift for several children, though the roundup does not establish how each figure in those packs compares with the single-figure options.
The full list of picks
The roundup’s named picks include Black Panther, Batman, Spider-Man, Miles Morales, Krypto, Iron Man, Hulk, The Flash, Superman, Deadpool, Wolverine and Doctor Doom. Product-level specifications in this guide are verified only for the Mattel Batman figures and the LEGO Spider-Man set; for the other characters, check the age grade, size and included parts on each product page before buying.

Comparing the three products with full specifications
| Product | Play format | Size and joints | Age grade and caution | Listed price when captured |

| Mattel DC Crime Crusher Batman (UK) | Feature figure with sounds and four weapons | 12 inches, 16 articulation points, 25+ phrases and sounds | 4+, button-cell battery caution | Not stated in the product listing used for this guide |
| LEGO Spider-Man Hero Figure 76346 (US) | Construction set with companion minifigure and detachable webs | 813 pieces, 24 articulation points, over 14.5 inches tall | 12+ guidance | $99.99 |
Prices are the figures shown on the manufacturer pages when they were captured, and they change. The two Mattel listings are UK pages and the LEGO listing is US, so a like-for-like price comparison across them is not meaningful.

Checking price and availability before you buy
Tom’s Guide displays Amazon US listings and says its purchase links may earn it a commission. Listings for the same character can be sold by several sellers at different prices, so compare the seller, the stated age grade and the pack contents before you buy. Confirm that the listing matches the product named in the roundup, since similar figures with different accessories are common in the same range.
For a gift, buy with the recipient’s age and play style in mind rather than the character alone. A 4+ figure with a small-parts warning is a poor choice for a toddler, and a 12+ build is not a good fit for a younger child who wants something to play with right away.
Suitable for a comic-book fan of any age? Not necessarily. The age grade decides that, so check it on the product page before you buy.
