Super Real Mahjong Venus Returns brings a late-1980s arcade series back with updated visuals, English-language availability and optional VR. A Kotaku report published October 6, 2026, says the game reached the top of Steam’s Japanese bestsellers list, while producer Kentaro Matsui recalled spending his teenage pocket money trying to win at the arcade. The report’s chart image is dated September 4, 2026, and gives no exact rank, so it is a dated snapshot rather than a live ranking.
What is Super Real Mahjong Venus Returns?
Super Real Mahjong Venus Returns is the latest entry in a series that Kotaku says began on PCs and in arcades in the late 1980s. Kotaku describes it as simulated mahjong with four female characters and a clothing-removal mechanic tied to winning. Earlier arcade entries stopped before the final clothing-removal state; in this home release, the scene can continue.

According to Kotaku, the developers retained the original characters and kept the scenarios close to the earlier games while updating the visuals. They also adjusted gameplay with newer titles, including Mahjong Soul and Bunny Garden, in mind.
Why did the producer say he was “hopelessly devoted”?
In an Automaton West interview cited by Kotaku, producer Kentaro Matsui reflected on playing the series as a teenager. He recalled spending his pocket money at the arcade in attempts to win, and said, “I was completely, hopelessly devoted to those girls.” His account links the game’s return to the attachment players formed to the arcade series, rather than to a new chart position alone.

It is therefore best understood as a dated report of a chart result, not confirmation of the game’s current position.
Kotaku also reported that the game’s Campfire crowdfunding campaign raised 33.8 million yen (approximately $216,000), reaching 1,690 percent of its goal. Those figures describe the campaign as reported in 2026; they are not evidence of ongoing sales or current Steam performance.
