Summerland Bank says it no longer distributes CGU Insurance products, so the available information does not establish that new customers can currently buy a Summerland Bank Home Buildings and Contents Plus policy. Existing policyholders should check their policy schedule and contact CGU about cover or claims.
Is Summerland Bank home insurance still available?
Summerland Bank’s current insurance page states, “Summerland Bank no longer distributes CGU Insurance products.” It directs existing home and contents policyholders to CGU for assistance and claims. The page lists 1300 038 397 for existing-policy assistance and 13 24 80 for claims; confirm the details on Summerland Bank’s insurance page before calling.

This means the available information does not verify a current quote, new-customer offer, or current Summerland Plus product. It also does not establish what terms apply to any particular existing policy. For that, use the current policy schedule and the applicable policy wording.

The document linked from Summerland’s site is CGU’s First Choice Home Insurance Product Disclosure Statement (PDS). It describes buildings cover, contents cover, or a combined policy, with two cover types: Listed Events and Accidental Damage. It does not establish that “Home Buildings and Contents Plus” is a current Summerland product tier. The policy schedule identifies the cover selected for an individual policy.
#1 Best Overall
Listed Events
Listed Events covers loss or damage caused by incidents named in the PDS, subject to its terms and exclusions. Named events include fire or explosion, earthquake or tsunami, impact, lightning, riots or civil commotion, storm, flood, rainwater or wind, theft or attempted theft, vandalism or malicious acts, and water or liquid damage.
Accidental Damage
Accidental Damage extends cover to accidental loss or damage, subject to policy conditions and exclusions. Some incidents have specific conditions. The PDS and the individual schedule—not the product name alone—determine the applicable cover.
What conditions and limits should policyholders check?
Event cover is not unconditional. The PDS describes waiting periods and exclusions that can affect whether a claim is covered. Examples include a 14-day waiting period for flood in specified circumstances and a 48-hour waiting period for some bushfire, grassfire, or named-cyclone situations. It also sets out conditions or exclusions involving construction openings, structural defects, and faulty workmanship. These examples are not a complete account of the policy wording.

The full exclusions and any exceptions should be checked in the wording that applies to the policy.
Rank #3
Contents cover away from home is subject to different terms by cover type: the PDS describes cover in Australia under Listed Events and in Australia and New Zealand under Accidental Damage. It also sets a $2,000 total limit for contents left in the open air at home for certain causes, including storm, flood, rainwater, wind, theft, or attempted theft, subject to stated exceptions. This is not a general limit for all contents claims.
The PDS also gives a maximum of $20,000,000 for all liability claims under the policy, including legal costs, and an additional $250 excess for specified earthquake claims under Listed Events. The accessible copy’s publication year is not confirmed, so these figures should not be treated as current Summerland Plus benefits; an individual policy schedule may specify different applicable terms.

How to assess an existing policy or compare alternatives
For an existing policy, start with its schedule, which records the selected cover and applicable excess. For an alternative policy, compare like-for-like details rather than relying on the name of a cover tier:
- Premium and the standard and event-specific excesses.
- Buildings and contents sums insured.
- Which listed events are covered and whether accidental damage is included.
- Flood definitions, waiting periods, exclusions, and other event-specific conditions.
- Temporary accommodation, valuables limits, and contents-away-from-home terms.
- Claims settlement approach and the insurer’s current availability and distribution arrangements.
