Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said increasing rural incomes and directing more money into village economies are state priorities. At a public meeting in Rampur on 2 October 2026, he linked that aim to milk procurement, road and bridge work, restoring a landslide-blocked road, and bringing CBSE education to a rural school, according to Hindustan Times.
What Sukhu said about the rural economy
Sukhu said the government’s objective was to increase the income of people living in rural areas and ensure that money flows directly into village economies. He described strengthening the rural economy as a particular focus. The remarks set out the government’s stated priority; the report does not establish how much income has risen or measure any resulting change in village spending.

Milk procurement: the report gives no exact current rate
Sukhu said the procurement price had been ₹32 per litre when his government took office and had risen to nearly double, which he said increased income for farmers and livestock rearers. Hindustan Times did not specify the current rate or identify the milk category, so “nearly double” should not be treated as a precise price for cow or buffalo milk.
For historical context only, an earlier Statesman report described cow-milk procurement at ₹45 per litre and buffalo milk at ₹55 per litre, as well as a planned processing plant at Dhagwar. Those older figures do not establish the current rate cited in Sukhu’s October 2026 remarks.

Roads and bridges: market access and connectivity
Tikkar-Jarol-Gahan road
The state sanctioned ₹36 crore for the Tikkar-Jarol-Gahan road, according to Hindustan Times. Sukhu said completion would make it easier for local apple growers to transport produce to markets, and directed officials to maintain construction quality. The report describes a sanction and anticipated benefit, not a completed road or a measured improvement in transport.
Named phases of the wider road
Hindustan Times also lists project values of ₹35.93 crore and ₹54.87 crore for two phases of the Tikkar-Jarol-Gahan-Nankhari-Khamadi road. It does not explain how those phase values relate to the separate ₹36 crore sanction, so they should not be combined into a single project total.
