A Hindustan Times report carried by PTI on October 2, 2026, said his scheduled semifinal opponent was Japan’s Kotaro Kiyooka. The same report recorded pre-quarterfinal defeats for Dipanshi Phogat, Rajat Ruhul and Priya Malik.
Kalkal rallied past Zazai in his first reported bout
Against Afghanistan’s Sayed Omar Zazai, Kalkal fell behind 3-0 after Zazai scored a two-pointer and a push-out. Kalkal answered with a push-out and a shoulder throw to take a 5-3 lead, then added points with another throw and a roll to close out a 9-3 win, according to the Hindustan Times/PTI report.

A 10-0 quarterfinal sent him through
Kalkal opened his quarterfinal against Iran’s Abbas Ebrahimzadehsavadkouhi with a standing shoulder throw. The initial four-point award was revised to two because Abbas did not land in a danger position, the report said. Kalkal then countered a leg attack to move ahead 6-0, and another attack at Abbas’s right leg helped extend the lead to 8-0 by the end of the first period.
