SuiteCRM 8.10.x server requirements at a glance
The current compatibility row for SuiteCRM 8.10.x defines the software versions that matter most. These are compatibility constraints, not a guarantee that a VPS image is correctly configured or powerful enough for your workload.

The official web-server guide describes a LAMP-style deployment: Apache, PHP, and MySQL or MariaDB. A pre-built installable ZIP does not require Node, Angular CLI, yarn, or npm in production; those are development dependencies.

Which PHP version should you install?
For a new SuiteCRM 8.10.x deployment, use PHP 8.2, 8.3, or 8.4, subject to the exact compatibility row for the release you install. Do not select PHP 7.4 for a current SuiteCRM 8 branch.
The version change in SuiteCRM 8.7
SuiteCRM 8.7 release notes, published 3 October 2024, state: “The minimum php version is now 8.1.” The same release notes say PHP 7.4 will not work from 8.7 onward. SuiteCRM 8.6 is the last release for which PHP 7.4 was considered in the compatibility matrix.
How to verify PHP before installing
Check the command-line version on the VPS:
php -vThen list loaded modules and confirm the required extensions are present:
php -mA hosting panel may show a different PHP version for the web server than the command line. Verify both the CLI binary used by cron and the PHP handler Apache uses for requests. A version mismatch can make the installer pass one check while scheduled jobs fail later.

IMAP and LDAP are optional in the installation guide. Enable IMAP when your deployment needs mailbox polling, and LDAP when you will connect authentication or directory features to an LDAP service.

If the web installer reports a missing module even though the CLI list is correct, inspect the Apache PHP configuration; the two execution contexts may load different php.ini files.
Apache configuration: rewrite rules and the public directory
SuiteCRM Core API calls depend on Apache URL rewriting. Without rewrite support, routes such as api/graphql can return HTTP 404 even though Apache and PHP appear to be working.
What to configure
- Run Apache 2.4.
- Enable the rewrite module.
- Allow the SuiteCRM directory’s rewrite rules in the virtual-host configuration.
- Set the virtual-host document root to SuiteCRM’s
publicdirectory.
Using public as the document root prevents files outside the intended web root from being directly exposed. Pointing Apache at the project’s top-level directory can disclose configuration or application files that should only be read by PHP.
Symptoms of a bad web-root setup
- The homepage loads, but Core API requests return 404.
- Static assets fail because Apache is serving the wrong directory.
- Requests expose directory contents or files that should not be public.
When these symptoms occur, check the virtual-host document root first, then confirm rewrite support and Apache’s permissions for the SuiteCRM directory. Test an API route after every change rather than assuming a successful homepage proves the configuration is complete.

MySQL or MariaDB: choosing the database service
SuiteCRM 8.10.x supports either MySQL 8.0 or 8.4, or MariaDB 10.6, 10.11, 11.4, or 11.8. Select a version your VPS image can keep patched and backed up; do not choose a database solely because it is the default on a one-click image.
Check the actual server version
mysql --versionConfirm that the result matches one of the supported versions before creating the SuiteCRM database and account. A provider may label an image “MySQL-compatible” while actually supplying a different database release. The compatibility matrix is the authoritative check for the SuiteCRM branch you are deploying.
Database capacity is workload-dependent
The database grows with contacts, accounts, activities, audit history, imports, reports, attachments, and integrations. File uploads may consume VPS storage even when the database itself remains modest. Keep database and application backups on storage separate from the live disk when possible, and verify that a restore can be completed rather than relying on a backup job’s success message.
Why cron and the Messenger worker are both required
SuiteCRM’s installation guide says, “SuiteCRM requires a cron job to execute scheduled tasks (workflows, email checks, report generation, etc.).” Configure cron after installation and confirm that it runs under the account and PHP binary used by SuiteCRM.

Workflows, email checks, report generation, and similar recurring operations depend on the scheduler. If cron is missing, the web interface may work normally while scheduled records accumulate and mail or reports never arrive.

Use your distribution’s standard cron facility and log its output. A practical verification sequence is:
- Identify the PHP path with
command -v php. - Use the SuiteCRM installation instructions for the exact scheduler command and application path.
- Run that command manually as the SuiteCRM service user to catch permissions or missing-extension errors.
- Add the command to cron and direct standard output and errors to a log that you monitor.
- Trigger or wait for a known scheduled action, then verify its completion in SuiteCRM.
SuiteCRM 8.10 adds a long-running worker
Starting with SuiteCRM 8.10, asynchronous tasks such as manual migrations are processed by the Symfony Messenger worker. If the worker is not running, those tasks remain pending. A cron entry alone does not replace the worker.
Run the worker using the command and process-management method specified by the SuiteCRM installation guide for your release. Keep it supervised with an appropriate service manager so it restarts after a crash or reboot, and send its logs to a location you review. On a small VPS, account for the worker’s memory and CPU alongside Apache, PHP, and the database.
Diagnosing a task stuck in pending
- Check whether the task is an asynchronous operation introduced in SuiteCRM 8.10 or later.
- Confirm the Messenger worker process is running under the correct application user.
- Inspect worker logs for database, permissions, PHP-extension, or connection errors.
- Check that the CLI PHP version matches the supported version and the web PHP configuration.
- Retry the task only after correcting the underlying error; repeated retries can create duplicate work or obscure the first failure.
How much CPU, RAM, and disk does SuiteCRM need?
SuiteCRM’s current compatibility and installation pages do not publish a universal CPU, RAM, disk, or concurrent-user table. Therefore, claims such as “SuiteCRM requires 2 GB of RAM” or “four cores are mandatory” are not official requirements.
What determines a sensible VPS size
- Users and concurrency: more simultaneous sessions increase PHP workers and database connections.
- Database growth: history, audit data, and large record sets require faster storage and more working memory.
- Uploads: documents and email attachments consume disk space and backup capacity.
- Imports and integrations: bulk operations can temporarily use substantial CPU, RAM, and database I/O.
- Reports: complex reports compete with interactive requests when they run on the same host.
- Email polling and workflows: frequent scheduled work adds a continuous background load.
- Shared services: placing Apache, PHP, the database, cron, and Messenger on one VPS requires headroom for all of them.
A practical sizing method
- Choose a VPS image that supports the exact Apache, PHP, and database versions required by your SuiteCRM release.
- Install monitoring for CPU, memory, disk space, disk latency, database connections, and worker health.
- Record resource use during normal browsing, imports, reports, scheduled jobs, and upgrades.
- Increase resources when sustained usage leaves little memory for PHP workers, the database cache, or the Messenger worker.
- Recheck capacity after adding users, integrations, large data imports, or new reports.
This approach produces a defensible capacity decision without confusing a PHP setting with physical memory. The legacy prerequisite of a PHP memory_limit of at least 128M should be applied and verified for the target branch, but it does not tell you how much RAM the VPS needs.
What to compare when selecting a VPS
SuiteCRM does not endorse a particular VPS vendor in the cited documentation. Compare services against the operational requirements rather than a provider’s marketing label.
- Version control: Can you select and maintain PHP 8.2, 8.3, or 8.4 and a supported MySQL or MariaDB release?
- Apache access: Can you edit virtual hosts, enable rewriting, and set the document root to
public? - Background processes: Can you create cron entries and keep a long-lived Symfony Messenger worker supervised?
- Storage: Is disk performance adequate for database activity, uploads, reports, and logs?
- Backups: What is retained, where is it stored, and can you perform a full restore?
- Monitoring: Are CPU, RAM, disk, database, and process-health alerts available?
- Operations: Can you reboot, resize, patch, and recover the server without waiting for a custom support action?
- Location: Does the data-center geography satisfy your latency, contractual, or data-residency needs?
Production checklist before opening SuiteCRM to users
- Confirm the operating system and PHP execution environments support the target SuiteCRM release.
- Install Apache 2.4 and one supported MySQL or MariaDB version.
- Enable every required PHP module and verify it from both CLI and the web runtime.
- Set the PHP
memory_limitto at least 128M where that prerequisite applies to your branch. - Point the Apache virtual host at the SuiteCRM
publicdirectory. - Enable and test Apache rewrite rules, including a Core API route.
- Configure the SuiteCRM cron scheduler and verify a scheduled action completes.
- For SuiteCRM 8.10 or newer, run and supervise the Symfony Messenger worker.
- Enable monitoring, review logs, and test backup restoration.
- Load-test representative imports, reports, uploads, and scheduled work before committing to a production user count.
Common VPS problems and fixes
Installer says a PHP extension is missing
Install the module for the PHP version Apache actually uses, restart the PHP handler or Apache, and compare the web runtime’s module list with php -m. A CLI-only installation does not prove that web requests have the same extensions.
API requests return 404
Verify that Apache rewrite support is enabled, rewrite rules are permitted for the virtual host, and the document root is SuiteCRM’s public directory. Do not “fix” the symptom by exposing the project’s parent directory.
Workflows or email checks never run
Inspect cron’s schedule, command path, service user, and logs. Run the scheduler manually as that user and correct permissions, PHP-version mismatches, or database connection errors.
Manual migration remains pending
On SuiteCRM 8.10 and later, check the Symfony Messenger worker first. Confirm that it is running continuously, can reach the database, and has the required PHP extensions and file permissions.

Bottom line for a 2026 SuiteCRM VPS
Build around the supported software matrix, not an arbitrary hardware slogan: Apache 2.4; PHP 8.2, 8.3, or 8.4; and MySQL 8.0/8.4 or MariaDB 10.6, 10.11, 11.4, or 11.8. Enable the required PHP modules, protect the application by serving only public, and treat cron and the SuiteCRM 8.10 Messenger worker as production components. Size CPU, RAM, and storage from measured users and workload, then leave room for scheduled jobs, backups, and upgrades.
