Short answer: Buy Street Fighter 6 for the current mainline game, modern matchmaking and confirmed cross-play. Choose Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection for arcade history and 12 classic titles; only four of those 12 have online play. Platform support, release dates and edition names differ, so check the live store listing for your region before paying.

Street Fighter 6: current game, platforms and release dates

There is no Nintendo Switch (first-generation) version listed for Street Fighter 6; the Nintendo release identified by Capcom is for Switch 2. If you own a PS4, you can play the game there, while PS5 is the newer PlayStation target. No feature-by-feature performance differences between the two PlayStation versions are officially listed, so do not assume a particular resolution, frame-rate mode or upgrade entitlement without checking the store page for your edition.
Does Street Fighter 6 support cross-play?
Yes. Capcom says the Nintendo Switch 2 version supports cross-play, “enabling users to enjoy the game together across different platforms.” That makes Street Fighter 6 the choice when your group is divided among PlayStation, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC.
Cross-play means players on different supported systems can enter the same online ecosystem; it does not mean that every platform has identical menus, licensing terms or downloadable-content bundles. Use the same game family and keep each platform’s software and network account current. If a friend cannot join, first confirm that both of you are launching Street Fighter 6, rather than the 30th Anniversary Collection, and that the friend is on one of the five listed platforms.
What online and single-player features are in Street Fighter 6?
Battle Hub
Battle Hub is the game’s social online space. It is designed for meeting other players and interacting in a shared environment rather than simply selecting a ranked match from a menu. It is the feature to look for if you want an online community area in addition to conventional fights.
World Tour
World Tour is an avatar-led campaign. You create a custom avatar and travel through the Street Fighter universe, giving the modern release a story-driven component that the arcade compilation does not provide. World Tour is the relevant option when you want progression and exploration rather than an online lobby.

Choosing an edition
Street Fighter 6 edition names and bundle contents vary by territory and storefront. Capcom’s official material does not provide one stable, region-neutral SKU table. A label such as a deluxe, ultimate or character-pass bundle can therefore mean different downloadable content in different markets or at different times.
- Open the store page for your exact platform and country.
- Read the edition’s included-game and character-pass list rather than relying on a retailer headline.
- Check whether the listing is a base game, an upgrade, or a bundle that requires an existing copy.
- Confirm the release platform: a PS4 listing and a PS5 listing are not automatically the same product.
- Review the seller’s current price, currency, stock and refund terms immediately before purchase.
That check is more reliable than using a fixed edition chart because Capcom and storefronts can change names, contents and availability.
What is included in Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection?
The collection packages 12 arcade-era games from four parts of the series. It is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
| Series group | Games included |
|---|---|
| Street Fighter I | Street Fighter |
| Street Fighter II | Street Fighter II; Street Fighter II’ Champion Edition; Street Fighter II’ Hyper Fighting; Super Street Fighter II; Super Street Fighter II Turbo |
| Street Fighter Alpha | Street Fighter Alpha; Street Fighter Alpha 2; Street Fighter Alpha 2 Gold; Street Fighter Alpha 3 |
| Street Fighter III | Street Fighter III; Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike |
The set is valuable for comparing how the series changed across arcade generations: the original game, the many Street Fighter II revisions, the Alpha branch and the Street Fighter III line are all represented. It is not a modern remake of those games and it does not turn every included title into an online game.
Which games in the 30th Anniversary Collection can be played online?
Capcom identifies four online-enabled versions:
- Street Fighter II’ Champion Edition
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
- Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike
The remaining eight games are included for local or offline play; online matchmaking is not enabled for all 12. This distinction is the most common buying mistake: seeing “12 games” on the package does not mean twelve online lobbies.
Rank #3
- Classic Experience Built for a Modern Era: With all core gameplay modes present, plus two brand new modes and enhanced visuals, Street Fighter 6 redefines the classic fighting game genre.
- Distinct Fighting Styles to Master: 18 diverse characters including legendary World Warriors and exciting brand new characters add their own flair to the game at launch, with more to be added post-launch.
- Brand New Game Modes: The Street Fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new foundational modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
- In-Game Commentating: Street Fighter’s first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen just like a real tournament.
- Two New Control Schemes: Classic Controls returns alongside two brand new options: Modern Controls allow you to perform special attacks with simple button combinations and are designed for players who want to fight without memorizing and practicing special move button combinations first. Dynamic Controls only require a press of the Auto-Attack button to perform attacks and is a great control type to use when you have friends and family over for a quick, casual game.
Capcom describes the collection’s online implementation as using “rewind” technology intended to provide low-latency matches. The in-game menu also lets players adjust input latency. Rewind netcode predicts and corrects game states to reduce the feel of delay, while the input-latency setting gives players a way to tune responsiveness for their connection and preference. These are design features, not a guarantee of identical performance on every route or region.

Subscription requirements on other platforms are governed by their own network policies; check the platform’s current account and multiplayer terms before starting an online session.
30th Anniversary Collection platform support
| Platform | Collection availability | Online-play note |
|---|---|---|
| PlayStation 4 | Yes | Four games support online play; PlayStation Plus is required for PS4 online play according to Sony. |
| Xbox One | Yes | Four games are identified by Capcom as online-enabled. |
| Nintendo Switch | Yes | Four games are identified by Capcom as online-enabled. |
| PC | Yes | Four games are identified by Capcom as online-enabled. |
The collection’s platform list is separate from Street Fighter 6‘s: it includes the original Nintendo Switch and Xbox One, but not Switch 2 as a separately listed version, and it does not provide the newer game’s Battle Hub or World Tour.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Can Street Fighter 6 and the 30th Anniversary Collection play together?
No. They are separate releases built around different game sets and online systems. A player in Street Fighter 6 cannot match with someone playing one of the classic titles in the collection. To play together, everyone must own and launch the same release and, for the collection, the same one of its four online-enabled games.
How to choose by platform and play style
You want friends on several systems
Choose Street Fighter 6. Its cross-play statement covers users across different platforms, and its current platform list spans PlayStation, Xbox, Switch 2 and PC. Verify that each friend has access to the same release and that network services are available in their region.
Rank #4
You want the original arcade line-up
Choose the 30th Anniversary Collection. It is the only option here that puts Street Fighter I, multiple Street Fighter II revisions, the Alpha games and Street Fighter III in one package. Expect to spend time in local, training or offline modes for most of the games.
You mainly want classic online matches
Buy the collection only if the four supported titles include the specific game you want. For example, a player seeking Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike online can use the collection, while someone expecting online play in the original Street Fighter or Street Fighter Alpha 2 will not find it enabled in this package.
You want a campaign as well as fights
Street Fighter 6 is the fit because World Tour adds an avatar-based journey. The collection focuses on arcade versions and does not include an equivalent modern campaign.
Sales and the size of the series
Capcom reported more than 5 million Street Fighter 6 units sold worldwide by June 2025 and more than 7 million by June 2026. Capcom also reported that the Street Fighter series had exceeded 59 million cumulative units as of March 31, 2026. These are company-reported shipments or sales figures as stated by Capcom, not a measurement of current online population.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Capcom has not published an official figure measuring present-day matchmaking queues or regional player counts. Sales milestones therefore show the release’s reach, but they cannot tell you how quickly a particular mode will find an opponent in your country or at a particular hour.
Purchase checklist
- Confirm the game: Street Fighter 6 is the current mainline release; the 30th Anniversary Collection is the 12-game classic package.
- Confirm the platform: SF6 lists PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2 and PC; the collection lists PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC.
- Confirm online expectations: SF6 supports cross-play; only four collection titles support online play.
- Confirm edition contents: SF6 bundles vary by region and storefront, so read the live listing.
- Confirm subscriptions: Sony states that PS Plus is required for PS4 online play in the collection.
- Confirm what is not known: do not infer queue times or local population from lifetime sales figures.
Bottom line
Street Fighter 6 is the all-purpose recommendation: it is the current mainline game, runs on five listed platform families, supports cross-play and includes both Battle Hub and World Tour. The Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection is the preservation-focused alternative, with 12 arcade games and online functionality limited to four named titles. Choose the release first, then verify the exact platform edition and current bundle contents in your regional store.
