Street Fighter 6 is the best overall choice for most players. It combines an approachable control scheme, a substantial avatar-driven World Tour campaign, and traditional one-on-one fighting. Choose TEKKEN 8 instead if three-dimensional movement, pressure-heavy offense, and a guided practice path are your priorities. Choose Mortal Kombat 1 if you want the most cinematic story presentation, graphic finishers, guest-character spectacle, and assist-based team building.
The right purchase depends less on graphics than on how you want to learn, move, and spend time outside ranked matches. The comparison below separates those differences so you can decide which one belongs on your platform.

What kind of fighting game do you want?
Choose Street Fighter 6 for the broadest package
Street Fighter 6 is the safest recommendation when a household or friend group wants one game that serves several skill levels. Capcom’s manual describes three main modes, including an immersive single-player story in which you create an avatar and interact with the Street Fighter world, alongside a traditional fighting mode. Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing also identifies Classic, Modern, and Dynamic control types. That combination gives a new player a lower-friction entry point without removing the standard control layout that experienced players expect.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The practical advantage is continuity: you can learn fundamentals in a story environment, move into normal matches, and keep using the same character-focused concepts. The game is not limited to a campaign, nor is it only a competitive training tool. If you are unsure whether your priority will be story, local matches, online play, or learning the genre, this breadth reduces the chance that you will outgrow the purchase quickly.
Choose TEKKEN 8 for three-dimensional movement and pressure
TEKKEN 8 is built around movement on a 3D plane. Sidestepping, positioning relative to the arena, and navigating attacks from different lines create a different learning problem from Street Fighter’s mostly horizontal spacing. Bandai Namco describes its Heat System as an aggressive tactic that lets each character use special movements and abilities. In practice, that makes momentum a central part of the match: the player who understands when to activate pressure tools can force more decisions from the defender.
It is the better fit when you specifically want a game where offense, movement, and character-specific systems dominate your decision-making. The trade-off is that the larger move sets and three-dimensional positioning can make early matches feel less immediately legible than a conventional 2D fighter.

Mortal Kombat 1 presents a franchise reset as a cinematic “new Era of Kombat.” Its official PlayStation description lists a story campaign, offline and online modes, Fatal Blows, defensive Breakers, and Fatalities. Warner Bros. Games also describes a separate Kameo Fighter roster: these assist characters support the main fighter during a match rather than replacing that character.
That structure changes team construction. You select a primary fighter and pair them with a Kameo whose assist timing, coverage, or defensive utility complements the main character. If you mainly want a dramatic campaign, highly produced cutscenes, finishing moves, and guest-character spectacle, Mortal Kombat 1 has the most distinctive tone of the three. Its violence is also the most graphic, so it is not the neutral choice for a family room or a player who prefers sports-like martial-arts presentation.
Street Fighter 6: modes, controls, and who should buy it
World Tour turns practice into an adventure
World Tour is an avatar-driven single-player story. You create a character, travel through the Street Fighter setting, interact with its world, and learn fighting concepts through exploration rather than entering a ranked queue immediately. That makes it useful for a player who wants context and progression before facing human opponents.
It also gives experienced players a reason to return when they do not want a serious competitive session. The mode is not a substitute for learning a chosen roster character in a dedicated training environment, but it offers a structured bridge between basic actions and traditional matches.

Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.

Classic, Modern, and Dynamic controls
The three documented control types address different needs:
- Classic: the traditional layout for players who want full manual control and the standard fighting-game input vocabulary.
- Modern: a simplified arrangement intended to make special moves and attacks easier to access, reducing the initial execution burden.
- Dynamic: a context-sensitive option designed for immediate, simplified play.
Control choice is not a permanent judgment about skill. A newcomer can begin with Modern or Dynamic, then test Classic after fundamentals become comfortable. A group sharing one console can use different control types without buying separate versions of the game.
Its competitive identity
Street Fighter 6 centers on traditional one-on-one matches. Spacing, timing, anti-air reactions, resource management, and selecting when to take a risk matter more than building an assist team or navigating a 3D arena. That clarity is valuable when you want to understand why a round was won or lost.
For local play, it is also the least disruptive option for a mixed group: everyone can see the same basic geometry and choose a control method that matches their experience. Players who specifically want tag-style assists or a 3D sidestep system should look elsewhere.
TEKKEN 8: Heat, Arcade Quest, and platform limits
What the Heat System changes
Bandai Namco says, “TEKKEN 8 will feature exciting new gameplay focused on ‘Aggressive’ tactics.” The Heat System lets players harness that aggression through character-specific special movements and abilities. It is not merely a visual meter; it is a system that changes the value of pressing forward and creates windows in which a player can convert initiative into damage or continued pressure.
New players should treat Heat as a decision system rather than a button to spend automatically. Learn what your chosen character gains, what can be punished if the activation fails, and when the opponent has defensive resources. The system gives Tekken 8 a more overt offensive identity than a neutral-only approach.
Arcade Quest is a guided on-ramp
Arcade Quest lets you create an avatar, challenge rivals in arcades, acquire basic knowledge, learn practical techniques, progress through a storyline, and unlock customization items. This is a more explicit tutorial path than simply putting a new player into online matchmaking. It is especially useful if you want goals and feedback while learning movement and attacks.

- Sleek 7-in-1 USB-C Hub: Features an HDMI port, two USB-A 3.0 ports, and a USB-C data port, each providing 5Gbps transfer speeds. It also includes a USB-C PD input port for charging up to 100W and dual SD and TF card slots, all in a compact design.
- Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)
- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
Arcade Quest does not erase Tekken’s complexity. The roster has extensive move lists, matchup-specific knowledge, and 3D positioning to learn. Its value is sequencing: it gives you a reason to practice concepts before the game asks you to apply them against highly experienced opponents.

Platforms and multiplayer
The official product listing names PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It lists offline local multiplayer for one or two players and online multiplayer for two players. There is no Nintendo Switch 2 version identified in the cited platform listing, so a Switch owner should not assume cross-platform availability.
For a PS5, Xbox Series X|S, or PC buyer who wants a dedicated 3D fighter, Tekken 8 is the direct choice. Confirm the edition and system requirements on your storefront before purchasing, because the cited platform information does not establish identical performance or feature parity across every PC configuration.
Mortal Kombat 1: story, Kameo Fighters, and editions
The campaign and match systems
PlayStation describes Mortal Kombat 1 as a franchise reset with a cinematic story. It also lists offline and online modes, Fatal Blows, defensive Breakers, and Fatalities. The result is a game that explains its world through long-form scenes while keeping recognizable match-ending mechanics central to play.
Fatal Blows provide a high-impact comeback tool, while Breakers let a defender interrupt certain offensive sequences. Fatalities are post-match finishing sequences rather than ordinary attacks. Together, these systems make Mortal Kombat’s match rhythm feel more theatrical than the comparatively sports-like presentation of Street Fighter.

Warner Bros. Games states that Mortal Kombat 1 has a separate roster of Kameo Fighters who assist during matches. Your main fighter and Kameo are therefore two related but distinct selections. The assist system can extend offense, cover approaches, or create defensive breathing room, depending on the pairing.
This is the main reason to choose Mortal Kombat 1 over the other two if you enjoy team construction. It also adds a second roster to learn. You need to understand not only your primary character’s attacks but also the timing and limitations of the Kameo you select.

Definitive Edition and the dated price reference
Warner Bros. Games announced Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition on May 14, 2025. The announcement says the bundle includes the main game, the Khaos Reigns story expansion, Kombat Pack, Kombat Pack 2, Animalities, and additional skins. It lists digital availability for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch.
The same announcement lists manufacturer suggested retail prices of $69.99 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and $59.99 on Nintendo Switch. Those are the stated MSRPs in that May 14, 2025 announcement, not a guarantee of the price you will see in 2026; sales, regional pricing, and retailer discounts can change the checkout total.
Edition complexity is therefore part of the buying decision. If you want the story expansion, character packs, Animalities, and skins, compare the Definitive Edition’s current platform price with the base game and separate add-ons. Do not assume that a cheaper base-game listing contains the same content.
Street Fighter 6 vs TEKKEN 8: which is better for online play?
Neither official feature set establishes a universal winner for connection quality or player population. The cited pages do not provide a comparable, current active-player statistic for all three games, so claims that one has the largest online community would be unsupported here.
The meaningful difference is the type of match you will play. Street Fighter 6 presents a clearer 2D geometry, with spacing and reactions that are easier to read when you are learning online. Its control options can reduce the execution barrier for a first-time player. TEKKEN 8 gives you sidesteps, wall positioning, longer move lists, and Heat-driven offense. Choose Street Fighter 6 if you want the more immediately readable online fundamentals; choose Tekken 8 if the complexity of 3D movement is itself the attraction.
For either game, use wired networking where practical, select the correct regional matchmaking settings, and spend time in training mode before ranked matches. Those are general preparation steps, not evidence that one title has a measured network advantage.

| Question | Mortal Kombat 1 | TEKKEN 8 |
|---|---|---|
| How do you build a team? | Select a main fighter and a separate Kameo Fighter | Select one character; the core system is not assist-based |
| What drives offense? | Character attacks combined with Kameo assists and Fatal Blows | Heat activation, character-specific abilities, movement, and pressure |
| What is the tone? | Cinematic, graphic, and built around finishers | Aggressive martial-arts spectacle with 3D arenas |
| What teaches newcomers? | Story-led introduction and tutorials | Arcade Quest with avatar progression and practical techniques |
Pick Mortal Kombat 1 when the assist layer and cinematic presentation matter more than mastering a single character’s 3D movement. Pick Tekken 8 when the challenge of movement, launchers, pressure, and character-specific Heat decisions is the main appeal.

Which game has the best story?
“Best” depends on what you mean by story. Mortal Kombat 1 is the strongest choice for a heavily cinematic campaign: the official description emphasizes a new era, long-form presentation, and a dramatic reset of the franchise premise. Its Khaos Reigns expansion adds another story chapter when included in the relevant edition.
Street Fighter 6 offers a different kind of single-player narrative through World Tour. You create an avatar and interact with the setting, so the appeal is exploration and personal progression rather than a single uninterrupted cinematic plot.
TEKKEN 8 combines a main storyline with character episodes, while Arcade Quest adds a smaller avatar-led progression framework focused on learning and customization. It is a good fit if you want narrative context around a roster and a tutorial path, but it is not structured like Mortal Kombat’s film-like campaign.
Which is the best fighting game for beginners?
- Start with Street Fighter 6 if you want the gentlest path into traditional matches. Use Modern or Dynamic controls, play World Tour, then move to training and local versus.
- Start with TEKKEN 8 if you already know that 3D movement interests you. Use Arcade Quest to learn basic knowledge and practical techniques before online play, then focus on one character rather than browsing the entire move list.
- Start with Mortal Kombat 1 if the story is what will keep you practicing. Complete the tutorials, learn one main fighter and one Kameo pairing, and treat Fatalities as presentation rather than a substitute for neutral-game fundamentals.
Street Fighter 6 has the broadest beginner safety net, but “beginner-friendly” should not be confused with “shallow.” Each game becomes demanding once you move into ranked competition.
Best choice on PS5, Xbox, PC, or Nintendo Switch
PlayStation 5
All three games are relevant to PS5 buyers in the cited material. Street Fighter 6 is the broadest general recommendation; Tekken 8 is the specialized 3D choice; Mortal Kombat 1 is the story-and-finishers choice. For Mortal Kombat 1, check whether the Definitive Edition’s bundled content is included at the price shown by your store.
Xbox Series X|S
TEKKEN 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 are officially listed for Xbox Series X|S. Street Fighter 6’s cited platform evidence in this comparison confirms its modes and Switch 2 listing but does not provide a comparable Xbox edition detail, so verify the current Xbox storefront listing before purchase.
PC
TEKKEN 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 are officially listed for PC. Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition is specifically identified for Steam and the Epic Games Store. Check your PC against the current store requirements and decide whether you prefer a controller, fight pad, or keyboard; the cited material does not establish one input device as universally superior.
Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch
Nintendo’s Switch 2 listing documents Street Fighter 6’s three modes and its Classic, Modern, and Dynamic controls. Warner Bros. Games lists Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition for Nintendo Switch, with the May 14, 2025 MSRP of $59.99. TEKKEN 8 is not included in the cited official platform list for Nintendo hardware.
How to decide before you buy
- Choose Street Fighter 6 when you need one purchase to work for beginners, single-player explorers, local players, and traditional online fighters.
- Choose TEKKEN 8 when three-dimensional movement, aggressive Heat mechanics, and a structured Arcade Quest introduction are non-negotiable.
- Choose Mortal Kombat 1 when cinematic storytelling, graphic finishers, Kameo assists, and guest-character spectacle outweigh concerns about multiple editions.
- Check the edition first for Mortal Kombat 1. The Definitive Edition bundles substantial post-launch content, but its listed MSRP is tied to the May 14, 2025 announcement and may not match today’s sale price.
- Check platform compatibility before buying an accessory. A platform-compatible arcade stick or fight pad can help with local or ranked play, but confirm console and game support for the exact model.
The official pages used for this comparison do not provide a like-for-like current player-population ranking, so choose based on mechanics, modes, platform, and edition contents rather than an unverified claim about which game is busiest.
Final recommendation
Buy Street Fighter 6 if you want the most complete and adaptable package. Buy TEKKEN 8 when 3D movement and aggressive system mechanics are the reason you play fighting games. Buy Mortal Kombat 1 when its cinematic story, graphic finishers, and Kameo Fighter system are more important to you than a simpler edition structure.
