Street Fighter 6 treats an outfit and its color as two separate choices. An outfit slot is the costume design itself; a color is a palette applied to that design. Selecting or purchasing a color does not unlock another costume, and Capcom has not established that one color automatically carries across every outfit. The available slots, unlock conditions and promotional offers can change with updates, so the character’s current in-game guidance remains the final authority.
Outfit slots and costume colors are different
An outfit slot identifies a fighter’s complete costume design, such as Outfit 1, Outfit 2 or Outfit 3. A color is a palette for one of those designs. You therefore make two decisions when customizing a fighter: which outfit to wear and which color variant that outfit should use.

Capcom’s amiibo manual makes the distinction explicit by allowing players to save a character’s “outfit” and “outfit color” separately. That wording is important: unlocking a palette does not grant a new design, while unlocking an outfit does not necessarily grant every palette for it.

Do not assume that a color unlocked for Outfit 1 appears for Outfit 2 or Outfit 3. The official material reviewed does not establish a universal carryover rule. Treat each outfit’s color list as its own set and check the color row shown for the selected costume.
#1 Best Overall
- Classic Experience Built for a Modern Era: With all core gameplay modes present, plus two brand new modes and enhanced visuals, Street Fighter 6 redefines the classic fighting game genre.
- Distinct Fighting Styles to Master: 18 diverse characters including legendary World Warriors and exciting brand new characters add their own flair to the game at launch, with more to be added post-launch.
- Brand New Game Modes: The Street Fighter franchise continues to hone its skills and redefine the fighting genre with the introduction of three new foundational modes – Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub.
- In-Game Commentating: Street Fighter’s first-ever Real-Time Commentary Feature, supported with subtitles in 13 languages, incorporates the voices of popular Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators like Vicious and Aru directly into the game to narrate what is happening on-screen just like a real tournament.
- Two New Control Schemes: Classic Controls returns alongside two brand new options: Modern Controls allow you to perform special attacks with simple button combinations and are designed for players who want to fight without memorizing and practicing special move button combinations first. Dynamic Controls only require a press of the Auto-Attack button to perform attacks and is a great control type to use when you have friends and family over for a quick, casual game.
How to change a character’s costume color
The exact screen name can vary by mode and game update, but the selection logic is consistent. Choose the fighter, select the outfit slot, and then choose a color that is available for that outfit. If a color tile is locked, the game’s current prompt should identify the required content or activity.
- Select the fighter. Open the mode’s character or appearance selection screen and highlight the desired character.
- Choose the outfit slot. Select Outfit 1, Outfit 2 or Outfit 3 when that slot is available to your account.
- Open the color choices for that outfit. The palette belongs to the currently selected slot, not to the fighter as a single universal inventory.
- Read the lock message before spending anything. It may point to an earned progression route, a pass, Fighter Coins or a time-limited campaign.
- Confirm and save the selection. If you are using an amiibo, the saved outfit and color are written as separate settings.
Menus can differ between Battle Hub, World Tour and other modes. If a color is missing, leave the selection screen and check the fighter’s current in-game information rather than assuming the palette is unavailable everywhere.
How to unlock Outfit 2
There is no single universal Outfit 2 recipe. Capcom has documented earned routes for some characters through Avatar Arcade progression or conditions in World Tour, but the requirement is character-specific and can change with a content update.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteEarned routes through Avatar Arcade
For characters whose current instructions point to Avatar Arcade, progress through the required Avatar Arcade activity with the relevant content installed. The official announcements establish Avatar Arcade as an earned route for some Outfit 2 unlocks, not as a guarantee that every fighter uses the same number of matches, rank or challenge.
World Tour conditions
Other fighters can tie Outfit 2 to World Tour conditions. Follow the objectives shown for that character in your current build. Because the publisher has not provided one universal checklist covering every fighter, do not substitute another character’s requirement or rely on an old guide after a major update.
Paid access
Paid passes can include costume slots without requiring the corresponding earned route. The pass must still be used with the base game, and the included character and outfit depend on the specific pass year and edition. A pass is not a blanket unlock for every fighter’s wardrobe.
What the Character Pass and Ultimate Pass include
Capcom’s June 29, 2026 announcement separates the costume benefits of the two pass types. Each Character Pass contains four additional characters, Outfit 1 Colors 3–10 and Drive Tickets. Each Ultimate Pass includes all Character Pass content, plus Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 costumes and additional Drive Tickets. The base Street Fighter 6 game is required to use either pass.

| Ultimate Pass | All Character Pass content | Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 costumes | Additional Drive Tickets | Base game required |
These are bundle specifications, not a complete catalog of every outfit, color or individual purchase route. They also do not mean that every color for every outfit is automatically included. Check the listing for the exact year and character set before buying.
Year-specific outfit and color details
Capcom’s publisher announcements are version-sensitive. For the Year 4 Ultimate Pass, the stated bundle contents include Outfit 2 and Outfit 3, with Colors 1–10 for each of those outfits. That is a specification for that announced pass, not evidence that every earlier year or every standalone outfit has the same ten-color range.

Capcom also announced that Year 3 Outfit 3 costumes are part of that year’s Ultimate Pass and can be obtained individually with Fighter Coins. Individual availability applies to the announced Year 3 Outfit 3 content; it should not be generalized to every costume slot or color in the game.
Prices, regional store listings and current availability are not fixed by these announcements. Confirm the platform store’s territory, edition and date before treating a pass or Fighter Coin purchase as available to you.
Are all costume colors free or included with a pass?
No universal rule covers every palette. The official pass notice specifically identifies Outfit 1 Colors 3–10 as Character Pass content, while Ultimate Passes add Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 costumes. Other colors may follow an earned route, a separate Fighter Coin purchase or a promotional campaign.
Use the locked-color description in the current game to determine which category applies. A color listed as pass content should not be confused with a new outfit slot, and a promotional color should not be assumed to remain available after its campaign ends.
Promotional colors can have extra requirements
Capcom’s October 9, 2026 M. Bison movie commemorative campaign illustrates why special colors need separate checking. That offer required the base game, Year 2 downloadable content and the applicable character’s Outfit 2. It also specified supported platforms and a bounded code-entry period.
The campaign page states that if the code is entered before Outfit 2 is obtained, the color becomes usable after Outfit 2 is acquired. That sequencing rule belongs to this campaign; it is not a general rule for every special color. Campaign pages can also impose different platform, territory or expiration conditions, so verify the live announcement before redeeming a code.

Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteDo you need an amiibo?
No. An amiibo is optional and is not required to change a fighter’s outfit or color.
Capcom’s official manual describes two amiibo functions. First, a compatible Street Fighter 6 amiibo can provide amiibo-only items. Second, it can store a favorite fighter’s outfit, outfit color and button presets. The manual limits the relevant amiibo menu to Battle Hub or World Tour, so do not expect the same controls in every mode.
Saving a setting to an amiibo does not create a new costume, bypass an unlock condition or make a palette universal. It stores the selections you already have access to. Figure compatibility and current stock are separate questions that should be checked for your platform and region.

Fighter colors and your World Tour avatar
Fighter costume palettes and World Tour avatar clothing are separate customization systems. The official material reviewed does not establish a procedure for applying a fighter’s color palette as an avatar clothing dye, so do not treat a fighter-color unlock as an avatar-color unlock.
When a guide claims that a fighter color can be transferred to avatar clothing, look for a current Capcom instruction specifically naming that feature. Without that confirmation, use the avatar clothing options presented in World Tour and the fighter’s own outfit controls independently.
Choosing between an earned route and a paid bundle
| Question | Earned route | Paid pass or individual content | Promotional color |
|---|---|---|---|
| What do you receive? | Usually a specified character’s unlock, such as Outfit 2, after meeting its conditions | Defined pass contents, which can include characters, colors or Outfit 2/3 slots | A particular palette tied to the campaign |
| How is it obtained? | Avatar Arcade or World Tour progression when listed for that fighter | Character Pass, Ultimate Pass or an announced Fighter Coin purchase | Campaign redemption or other terms stated on the event page |
| Does it cover every fighter? | No; requirements are character-specific | No; coverage follows the pass’s named characters and items | No; it applies only to the eligible character and outfit |
| What should you verify? | Current in-game objective and required content | Year, edition, included outfit and base-game requirement | Platform, DLC ownership, outfit ownership and code deadline |
This comparison prevents the most common mistake: paying for a color when your goal is a new outfit slot, or beginning a World Tour objective when the desired slot is already included in a pass you own.
Troubleshooting locked or missing colors
The outfit appears, but its colors are locked
Select the outfit first and read the color-specific message. The slot and palette can have different requirements, so owning Outfit 2 does not by itself prove that every Outfit 2 color is available.
A pass was purchased, but content is absent
Confirm that the base game is installed on the same platform account, that the pass year matches the character you are checking and that the content has finished downloading. A Character Pass supplies the contents listed for that pass; an Ultimate Pass adds the stated Outfit 2 and Outfit 3 benefits. Neither description promises every historical or promotional color.
A redeemed code does not show as usable
Check the campaign’s platform and date conditions, then verify ownership of any required downloadable content and the applicable outfit. In the M. Bison example, the color becomes usable after Outfit 2 is acquired when the code was entered first.
The amiibo option is missing
Open the amiibo feature from Battle Hub or World Tour, where Capcom’s manual places the function. Confirm that the figure is compatible and remember that amiibo stores selections; it does not unlock unavailable outfits or colors.
What can change over time
Street Fighter 6 is still receiving characters, outfits, colors and limited campaigns. The reviewed official material does not establish every fighter’s current slot list, every color count, all avatar-dye options, live store inventory or a single permanent unlock table. Patch notes and event pages can alter the practical answer.
For an up-to-date decision, inspect the character’s own customization screen, the pass description for its exact year and the current Capcom announcement for any promotional color. Record the required outfit and downloadable content before redeeming a code or spending Fighter Coins.
