Street Fighter (2026) has an emotional ending but no completed plot finale. Ken brings Ryu back from his Evil Ryu state, while Bison escapes with Akuma and the heroes begin a new pursuit. The post-credits scene shows Bison approaching Sagat, making the sequel direction clear even though the World Warrior conflict remains unresolved. JustWatch and GamesRadar+ both identify that split between character closure and plot non-closure as the key to the ending.
What the final act actually shows
- Ryu gives in to the Satsui No Hado. During his fight with Akuma, Ryu embraces the force that turns him into Evil Ryu. He defeats Akuma with a Hadouken, but the victory leaves him unable to control himself.
- Ken reaches Ryu through force and memory. Ken finally performs a Hadouken of his own and knocks Ryu unconscious. He then sings their shared favorite song, “What’s Up?” by Four Non Blondes. The attack stops Ryu physically; the song reaches him emotionally. Ken saves his friend by combining the skill he has spent the film chasing with the empathy he had been missing.
- Bison claims the next move. Akuma is not confirmed dead. Bison’s henchmen remove the injured fighter so Bison can try to extract Akuma’s power and add it to his own Psycho Power. That leaves Akuma’s fate unresolved rather than closing his story.
- The heroes leave to hunt Bison. Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li and Dan escape Shadaloo. Guile and Dhalsim pick them up, and the reunited group sets out after Bison. The film cuts away before they reach him.
What the post-credits scene reveals about Sagat
The short animated post-credits sequence shows Bison approaching Sagat, the fighter Ryu defeated before the main events. It does not state whether Sagat will become an enemy, an ally or a temporary collaborator, but it puts him directly into the unresolved villain-side storyline. The scene is a forward-looking hook, not a hidden explanation of who won the tournament.

Why viewers say the movie has “no ending”
The film closes its personal conflict while suspending its external one. Ken and Ryu reach a moment of reconciliation, but Bison, Akuma and Sagat remain active and the heroes have not confronted their target. In other words, the movie supplies an emotional endpoint without supplying the conventional action-movie endpoint of defeating the main villain.
That structural choice explains the abrupt cut. Associated Press critic Jake Coyle described the movie as ending “without a finale” and called the approach “overly optimistic sequel baiting.” His criticism focuses on the same gap viewers notice: the characters appear ready for the next chapter before this chapter has delivered a final confrontation. Who wins the World Warrior Tournament?
No winner is shown or announced. The tournament is the setting that brings the characters together, not the completed endpoint of the screenplay. The official synopsis places the story in 1993 and says Chun-Li recruits Ryu and Ken for the World Warrior Tournament, but the released ending moves the focus from tournament results to the Ryu-Ken relationship and Bison’s escape. The official synopsis therefore provides the premise, not a missing final bracket or champion.
How the ending uses Street Fighter lore
Ryu and Ken are the main dramatic pair
The wider roster supplies allies, rivals and future threats, but the final act is built around the friendship between Ryu and Ken. The tournament functions largely as pressure on that relationship, which is why Ken’s song can resolve the film’s emotional question even while the larger conflict continues.

The supernatural powers are part of the plot, not decoration
Evil Ryu’s transformation makes the Satsui No Hado an active danger to Ryu rather than a reference for longtime players. Bison’s plan to absorb Akuma’s strength similarly turns Psycho Power into the mechanism for the next escalation. The ending uses those ideas to explain why the villain can survive the heroes’ apparent victory and return with greater power.
Does this ending set up Street Fighter 2?
It sets up a follow-up story, but it does not officially announce a film titled Street Fighter 2. Bison remains at large, Akuma is in his custody, Sagat has entered the post-credits narrative, and the heroes are traveling toward their next confrontation. Those are explicit story hooks; the identity, timing and scope of any sequel are not established by the ending itself.

The open ending also reflects the scale of the property behind it. Capcom’s official history says Street Fighter began as an arcade game in 1987, Street Fighter II followed in 1991, and the series had reached 39 million cumulative unit sales across 84 titles by 2017. The same history lists Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers for Nintendo Switch, a direct way to experience the tournament-style game roots that the film uses as its starting point. Capcom’s franchise history supplies those dates and figures.
So the apparent missing ending is the result of a deliberate split: Ryu and Ken’s immediate crisis is resolved, while the World Warrior story stops at the moment a larger conflict is about to begin.
