Choose Streamlabs Desktop if its guided onboarding and integrated presentation tools suit your workflow and your PC has the recommended headroom. Neither option is proven to keep a stream online longer than the other: the reviewed guidance offers no India-specific reliability comparison. For a true 24/7 stream, plan for sustained upload, power and computer stability—and do not rely on YouTube to archive a broadcast that runs beyond 12 hours.
OBS Studio vs Streamlabs Desktop: the practical differences
Both are desktop encoder choices: they send a live feed from your computer to YouTube. The useful distinction is workflow and PC fit, not a documented difference in 24/7 uptime. OBS offers an Auto-Configuration Wizard that considers intended use, hardware and network conditions. Streamlabs Desktop may suit creators who value guided onboarding and integrated presentation tools, but its vendor publishes comparatively demanding recommended PC specifications.

What matters more than the encoder for a 24/7 broadcast?
Sustained upload, not a speed-test peak
There is no special “India bitrate” in YouTube’s guidance. Test the connection you will actually use, then choose settings your upload can sustain with room for normal variation. YouTube recommends a speed test, a representative preflight test and monitoring stream health and messages while live. The published bitrate values are recommended ingestion settings, not a promise of delivered quality. YouTube encoder settings

| Video setting | H.264 recommended bitrate | AV1/H.265 recommended bitrate |
|---|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 6 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
These are YouTube’s recommended values for the listed codec, resolution and frame rate. Start with a modest resolution and frame rate if the connection is variable; a stable lower-quality stream is generally more useful than settings the connection cannot sustain. YouTube’s encoder guidance specifies RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1 video options, up to 60 fps, CBR and a recommended two-second keyframe interval (do not exceed four seconds). YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts data through Google’s servers. Use the current encoder guidance for any codec-specific requirements beyond these values.
Scene load, power and monitoring
Overlays, animated elements, additional sources and other running applications add work for the computer. OBS says CPU needs vary by encoder, resolution, FPS and scene complexity; Streamlabs likewise notes that content and concurrent software affect requirements. A wired Ethernet connection is part of Streamlabs’ recommended setup, but neither an Ethernet cable nor a computer that meets listed specifications proves it can sustain your particular broadcast. Run the stream with the real scene and devices, watch YouTube’s health status, and account for the computer and network remaining available continuously.

How to choose and test the setup before going live
- Confirm YouTube live eligibility. YouTube says the channel must be verified, must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and streamers must be at least 16 years old. Its guidance describes encoder streaming as suitable for gameplay, overlays, and external preamps, microphones and cameras. YouTube live-streaming requirements
- Choose the encoder by workflow. In OBS, run the Auto-Configuration Wizard and let it consider your intended use, hardware and network; then add the sources your program needs. Choose Streamlabs if its onboarding and presentation workflow are useful, while checking your PC against its recommended specifications.
- Connect the encoder to YouTube. Set up the live stream in YouTube and use its stream key in the encoder. Treat the key as private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that stream. In YouTube’s Live Control Room workflow, set the resolution, frame rate and bitrate in the encoder. Follow YouTube’s current encoder settings for the selected codec and use RTMPS where available.
- Set conservative output settings. Use CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, keep the interval at four seconds or less, and select a resolution, frame rate and codec whose recommended bitrate the tested upload can sustain. The table above gives YouTube’s recommendations for common 720p and 1080p H.264 and AV1/H.265 combinations.
- Check audio and representative motion. In OBS, check the audio meters and selected devices. Test the full scene, including the fastest movement, transitions, overlays and audio you expect to use; a static test does not show how a busy scene will perform.
- Run a short preflight, then monitor. OBS’s quick-start guidance recommends a short test rather than immediately starting a real broadcast. Check YouTube’s stream health and messages during the test and during the live run. YouTube recommends testing audio and movement and monitoring stream health. Plan the archive separately: YouTube’s 12-hour limit matters
YouTube says it can automatically archive a live stream if it is less than 12 hours, recommends recording a local archive as backup, and warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single 24-hour broadcast therefore needs a deliberate archive plan: record locally if the computer and storage can support it, or arrange a separate recording workflow. Do not assume the YouTube replay will contain the full day. YouTube archive guidance
Copyright and reused material: streaming continuously does not change the rules
Only stream video and audio you own, have permission to use, or are otherwise authorized to broadcast. A 24/7 schedule is not permission to rebroadcast songs, videos or other third-party material. Copyright compliance and monetization eligibility are separate from whether an encoder can connect; do not assume that repeated or minimally changed material qualifies for monetization. Check YouTube’s current copyright and monetization policies for your content before scheduling a long-running stream.

Common problems and practical fixes
- YouTube reports unstable stream health: lower bitrate, resolution or frame rate, then repeat the test on the same connection. Compare the result with YouTube’s recommended codec-specific values rather than assuming a speed-test peak is sustainable.
- The stream drops when overlays or scenes become busy: simplify animated overlays and unnecessary sources, close demanding background applications, and test again. Encoder and scene complexity affect system load.
- Video is live but audio is missing or wrong: confirm the intended audio device and watch the encoder’s audio meters during a representative test; verify sound in the live preview before relying on the stream.
- The broadcast ends during a long run: check YouTube messages, encoder status, computer operation and the network path to identify where the interruption occurred. Neither vendor’s cited guidance promises automatic continuity from the desktop app.
- The replay is missing or incomplete: a stream over 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use the local or separate archive workflow planned for the broadcast.
- The stream key is rejected or the channel cannot go live: confirm that the key belongs to the intended YouTube stream and that the channel meets YouTube’s verification and restriction requirements.
