First find out where the audio/video mismatch occurs: in your headphones while monitoring, in a local recording, in the YouTube live output, or only in the saved YouTube VOD. Those are different problems, and changing an audio delay before identifying the affected output can make sync worse. Record a short test with the same scene and media source, note whether sound leads or lags, and compare the recording with monitoring and, if practical, a private YouTube test.
Identify which output is out of sync
Streamlabs recommends testing with a recording or private stream and reviewing the resulting VOD. Use the same scene and media source you use when the problem occurs; otherwise, the test may not reproduce it. Streamlabs’ live-stream audio guide also recommends checking whether audio sources are doubled or missing.

- Headphones only: If the local recording and YouTube output are aligned but monitoring is not, investigate the monitoring path first.
- Local recording: If the recording itself is out of sync, the problem exists before or within the output captured by Streamlabs. Check routing and source configuration before making timing changes.
- YouTube live output or VOD: Compare a private test stream and its VOD with your local recording. If the local recording is aligned but YouTube is not, record that distinction when seeking support; it narrows down where the mismatch appears.
Also note whether the offset is present from the start or grows during playback, and whether the sound leads or lags. Do not assume that every sync issue has the same cause or a standard delay value.

Inspect the scene’s sources and the Audio Mixer. Look for the same sound reaching the mix by two routes—for example, a media source plus an unintended second capture—or for the expected source to be missing, muted, or routed incorrectly. Streamlabs specifically advises checking for doubled or missing sources in its audio troubleshooting guidance.

- Play the media source and watch the Audio Mixer meters to see which channels respond.
- Check whether another source is capturing the same audio.
- Confirm that the intended source is not muted and that its routing matches your scene.
- Change one routing setting at a time, then make another short recording and compare it with the previous test.
If the audio comes from a capture card
Use capture-card settings only when a capture card is actually part of the audio path. Streamlabs’ capture-card troubleshooting article describes a setup using the Video Capture Device properties: select Capture audio only and leave Use custom audio device unchecked, except for the particular line-in methods the article identifies. Verify that the correct mixer device is active and not muted. This advice is for capture-card audio, not an ordinary local media file.
Streamlabs warns that “Using Monitor and Output may cause an echo” in the capture-card context. If monitoring is enabled, compare Monitor Only, Monitor and Output, and Monitor Off as controlled diagnostic changes that suit your setup. Test after each change; do not switch modes blindly, since they affect what you hear and what is sent to output.

Adjust timing only after confirming the affected source
If both the local recording and YouTube VOD are out of sync, first establish which audio source leads or lags relative to the video. Then adjust the relevant source timing only if the controls available in your installed Streamlabs Desktop build fit that source and problem. The Streamlabs support pages cited here do not document a universal media-source sync-offset value, so there is no safe one-size-fits-all number to enter.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- Make a short baseline recording and write down whether audio leads or trails and whether the offset stays constant or grows.
- Change only the relevant timing or routing control for the confirmed source; avoid changing unrelated devices or sources.
- Record the same scene again and compare the result. Keep the change only if it improves sync in the output that was affected.
Exact control names and availability can vary by Streamlabs Desktop version and source type. Check the UI and help information for your installed build rather than applying a guessed numeric offset.

- PLUG IN AND HEAR SOUND IN SECONDS - USB Type-A connector with a 3.5mm stereo headphone output and a separate 3.5mm mono microphone input. No drivers, no software, no external power - the adapter is USB bus-powered and is recognized as a standard USB audio device.
- WORKS ON WINDOWS, MAC AND LINUX - Driverless on Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/7/8, Linux and Mac OSX, and compliant with the USB Audio Device Class 1.0 specification, so any system that supports class-compliant USB audio will see it. Select it as the sound output and input device after plugging it in.
- TWO JACKS, TWO JOBS - The green jack is stereo OUT for headphones or powered speakers; the pink jack is mono microphone IN for a 3.5mm mic. It does NOT support 4-pole headsets on a single combo plug, it does NOT power passive speakers, and it does NOT add surround sound - it is a stereo 2-channel adapter.
- FOR LAPTOPS AND DESKTOPS THAT NEED AN AUDIO PORT BACK - Adds a headphone and mic port to a laptop, desktop, or mini PC whose onboard jack has failed or was never there. Managed and work-issued computers can block new USB audio devices by policy - check with your IT department before ordering for a company machine.
- SABRENT SUPPORT AND WARRANTY - What is in the box: one USB audio sound adapter. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty, extended to 2 years when you register within 90 days on the manufacturer's website.
When only monitoring drifts over time
If headphones gradually drift out of sync while the recording and YouTube output remain aligned, focus on the monitoring path rather than changing stream timing. In an OBS Project forum discussion, contributor Lawrence_SoCal describes how monitoring can follow a physical device’s clock while output follows OBS’s clock, and discusses interrupting routing as a possible workaround. This is community guidance, not proof that your Streamlabs setup has the same cause or that the workaround will fix it. Validate any change against a new recording and the relevant YouTube output.
Troubleshooting checklist for persistent sync issues
If the problem remains, gather details before making broader changes. Avoid destructive resets unless Streamlabs support has assessed your setup.

Or let it run in the cloud
This sync guide is about diagnosing Streamlabs Desktop; if your goal is instead to keep uploaded videos looping as a YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud service for that separate task. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running, so your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start your free StreamNeo day.
