Start by identifying the platform
Stray records progress differently depending on where you play. PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 use the console trophy system. A supported PlayStation game played on PC exposes trophies through the PlayStation overlay. The Steam edition uses Steam Achievements instead. A fix that applies to one service may not change the record held by another.

On supported PlayStation PC titles, the overlay shows the game’s trophy groups and tracks progress according to the game being played across PC and console. Steam achievements remain separate from PlayStation trophies, so use the list belonging to the platform where the missed unlock occurred.
Update Stray before trying anything else
Updates matter because several Stray patches addressed game states that can prevent a required action from registering. Install the latest update offered by your platform, restart the game, and only then retry the requirement.

These notes establish that known gameplay and progression defects were fixed; they do not state that an already-missed trophy will be granted automatically after installation. After updating, make a fresh attempt rather than assuming the old attempt has been repaired.
Verify the exact trophy or achievement trigger
A near match is not enough. Trophy descriptions can combine a particular action with a particular chapter, object, character, timing, or completion state. Read the locked entry in your platform’s list and break its wording into individual conditions before replaying it.
Use a trigger checklist
- Action: Identify the precise interaction, not a similar animation or activity.
- Location: Confirm that you performed it in the chapter or room named by the requirement.
- Object or character: Check that the intended item, machine, or character was involved.
- Completion state: Determine whether the requirement calls for one successful interaction, a set of interactions, or completion of a sequence.
- Platform input: If the trigger depends on a control prompt, use the current control scheme and wait for the interaction to finish.
Do not count a similar action as proof. For example, the scratch trophy’s wording and input behavior must be satisfied by the scratch interaction itself; ordinary movement or another contextual animation does not substitute for it.

PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 recovery procedure
Use this order so that a delayed notification or stale account session is not mistaken for a failed trigger.
- Open the game’s trophy list. Read the complete description of the locked trophy and note whether the list shows any progress.
- Confirm the console is online. A notification can be delayed while the console is offline or the service connection is interrupted. Leave the game and trophy list open briefly after the qualifying action.
- Refresh the PlayStation account session. Sign out of PlayStation Network completely, reboot the console, sign back in, and check the trophy list again.
- Load a pre-trigger save. Choose a save made before the required action. Perform every condition again without skipping the relevant sequence.
- Check the list after the replay. If the trophy remains locked, do not assume that deleting saves, changing the system clock, buying another edition, or using an unlock utility will correct the server-side record. Those methods are not supported by the cited guidance.
- Contact PlayStation Support if it still fails. Provide the platform, Stray version, exact trophy name, save slot, the action you performed, and the time and circumstances of the failed unlock. Support may investigate the account or game state; do not expect or promise a manual trophy grant.
When the notification is late
A missing pop-up immediately after the action does not always mean the requirement failed. Wait briefly while online, then check the trophy list itself. If the list is still locked, use the sign-out, reboot, sign-in sequence before replaying from the earlier save.
PlayStation games on PC
For a PlayStation version running on PC, press Shift+F1 to open the PlayStation overlay and select Trophies. The overlay displays the trophy groups for the game and, where cross-platform tracking is supported, reflects progress according to the game being played on PC and console.

- Open the overlay with
Shift+F1while Stray is running. - Select Trophies and open the locked entry.
- Confirm that you are signed in to the PlayStation account that owns and is playing the title.
- Update the game, then load a save before the trigger and repeat the exact requirement.
- Allow time for the overlay to refresh. If it remains locked after a complete replay and a fresh sign-in, contact PlayStation Support with the same diagnostic details used for a console case.
The overlay and Steam use different achievement records. A Steam unlock cannot be used as evidence that a PlayStation trophy record has updated, and vice versa.

Steam PC procedure
Steam labels Stray as a Steam Achievements title and provides an achievement page along with official support and technical-discussion routes. Start with the achievement page rather than a third-party tracker so that you are comparing the game’s current description with the record on your account.
- Open Steam’s Stray achievement page. Select the locked achievement and read the complete trigger.
- Install the current game update. Restart Steam or the game if the client requests it, then launch the updated build.
- Check the input method. If the missed item is the scratch achievement and you played with keyboard and mouse, Hotfix 2 specifically addressed that case.
- Load a save before the trigger. Repeat the action and every surrounding condition exactly as described.
- Look for the unlock after the action completes. If the achievement remains locked, compare the result with the official support and technical-discussion guidance rather than installing an unofficial unlocker.
- Escalate a persistent PC problem. Include your platform, game version, achievement name, save slot, input method, and a description of what happened when contacting official support.
Keyboard-and-mouse scratch issue
The developer’s Hotfix 2 announcement dated 22 July 2022 explicitly lists a fix for the scratch trophy for keyboard-and-mouse players. If that is the achievement you missed, updating is a required first step. The note does not say that an attempt made before the hotfix will be converted automatically, so replay the scratch interaction on the updated build.

Why replaying from an earlier save is the safest retry
Many achievement checks occur at the moment a sequence completes. A save made after that moment may preserve the outcome without giving you another opportunity to fire the check. Returning to a pre-trigger save gives the game a clean chance to register the interaction while preserving your existing progress elsewhere.
- Use the earliest practical save before the requirement, not one created after the suspected failure.
- Follow the normal sequence instead of rushing past dialogue, prompts, or transitions tied to the trigger.
- Wait for the interaction or chapter event to finish before opening menus or quitting.
- Check the platform list immediately after the sequence and again after a short online delay.
Keep a backup of the save you intend to revisit. A replay is a troubleshooting step, not a guarantee that the platform will repair a record already stored as incomplete.

What not to promise or rely on
There is no authoritative published failure-rate statistic for Stray trophies in the available support material. Avoid claims that a particular workaround always fixes the problem.
- Deleting a save: It can remove your replay point and is not documented as a way to repair a server-side trophy record.
- Changing the system clock: No cited support guidance identifies this as a trophy remedy.
- Third-party unlockers: They are not a supported method and can create account, save, or security risks.
- Buying another edition: A different edition does not establish that an existing trophy or achievement record will be corrected.
- Assuming an update is retroactive: The patches fix game defects, but their notes do not guarantee automatic credit for an earlier failed attempt.
Prepare a useful support report
A support agent can investigate a specific failure more effectively than a report that only says “the trophy did not pop.” Gather the following before contacting the appropriate platform support channel:
- Platform and hardware model, such as PS4, PS5, PlayStation PC, or Steam PC.
- The exact Stray version or most recent patch installed.
- The complete trophy or achievement name.
- Save-slot identifier and whether the save was created before or after the trigger.
- The precise steps you performed, including chapter, location, object or character, and input method.
- Whether the game was online, whether you saw a delayed notification, and whether you signed out, rebooted, and signed back in.
- What happened after replaying the requirement on the updated build.
For PlayStation, use PlayStation Support after the account refresh and replay steps. For Steam, use the official Stray support and technical-discussion routes. Neither route should be described as able to manually grant a trophy unless support explicitly confirms that option for your account.
