HCL Technologies earnings in focus
The report linked HCL Technologies’ rise to its July–September quarter results for FY27. It reported consolidated net profit of Rs 5,132 crore, up 21.18%, attributing the increase to higher margins from advanced artificial-intelligence operations and lower tax outgo. Those explanations are the account given in the news report and were not independently checked against a company filing.
Financial and consumer shares also advanced
HDFC Bank was among the prominent gainers, helping lift the benchmark-heavy financial segment. HUL, Titan, Bajaj Finserv, SBI, M&M and ICICI Bank were also named among major index movers. Kotak Mahindra Bank, Eternal and Maruti were reported as laggards, showing that the advance was not uniform across every index constituent.

What the report cited as catalysts
The session report attributed the stronger sentiment to several factors rather than proving that one event alone caused the rally:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

- Stronger-than-expected technology earnings improved confidence in corporate profit growth.
- A relatively stable rupee and easing bond yields supported market sentiment and brought financial stocks into focus.
- Gains in financial and fast-moving consumer-goods shares broadened the advance beyond IT.
- Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said debate over long-term capital-gains tax and the securities transaction tax was healthy and that she was keen to hear the views being expressed. This is a paraphrase and quoted fragment reported by the news account; the original speech transcript was not separately located.
Geojit Investments Limited Head of Research Vinod Nair said stronger technology earnings had lifted confidence in corporate profit growth, while rupee stability and easing bond yields further supported sentiment. His comment was an explanation of the day’s market mood, not a forecast or investment recommendation.
Rupee, foreign flows and the previous session
The rupee was reported at 95.37 against the US dollar, about 41 paise higher on the session and marking its third consecutive day of gains.
Foreign institutional investors nevertheless sold equities worth Rs 1,708.48 crore on Monday, according to exchange data cited in the report. That selling followed Monday’s decline, when the Sensex fell 547.65 points, or 0.76%, to 71,924.68 and the Nifty dropped 157.10 points, or 0.70%, to 22,363.35. Tuesday’s jump therefore represented a sharp reversal of the immediately preceding session, not evidence that foreign outflows had ended.
