As of Monday, October 5, 2026: U.S. stock futures were lower early in the session after the Nasdaq Composite set an intraday record on Friday, while the 10-year Treasury yield was reported near 5.32%. These are dated market reports—not live quotes—and the early futures moves should not be confused with Friday’s closing results or Monday’s later trading.
What happened in early futures on October 5?
An early-session report put Dow futures down 0.14%, S&P 500 futures down 0.18%, and Nasdaq-100 futures down 0.24%. The report did not give a precise timestamp for those futures readings, so they describe the early October 5 setup rather than a full-session result. SP Futures’ October 5 report framed the moves against Friday’s Nasdaq Composite record.

The futures measure was Nasdaq-100 futures; the record referenced was in the Nasdaq Composite. They are different measures, so the Nasdaq-100 futures decline does not mean the Composite itself was falling by the same percentage.

The October 5 futures report gave these Friday closing figures:
#1 Best Overall
| Index | Friday, October 2 close | Reported change |
|---|---|---|
| Dow | 51,176.46 | Up 250 points, or 0.5% |
| S&P 500 | 7,722.72 | Up 0.7% |
| Nasdaq Composite | 27,190.86 | Up 1.2%; reached an intraday all-time high before closing |
These are closing readings reported for Friday, not Monday’s prices. A separate October 5 Yahoo Finance report described a later, intraday snapshot in which the Nasdaq and S&P 500 were up 0.7% and 0.4%, respectively, while the Dow was down 0.2%; it also said the Nasdaq Composite touched a new intraday record. Those intraday percentages are not closing results and should not be combined with Friday’s figures. Yahoo Finance’s October 5 report
Why were Treasury yields in focus?
Yahoo Finance reported the 10-year Treasury yield near 5.32% intraday on October 5, more than three basis points above Friday’s close. This is a yield reading from that report, not a current quote. The futures coverage also characterized the 10-year yield as having reached a level not seen in more than twenty years, but gave no directly comparable yield figure for that claim. Yahoo Finance and SP Futures discussed yields as a concern for equities, but the reports do not establish that higher yields alone caused the early futures decline.

What were investors watching that week?
The October 5 futures report pointed to geopolitical and market-specific developments, the ISM services activity report, Federal Reserve minutes from its September meeting due Wednesday, preliminary University of Michigan consumer sentiment due Friday, and the start of earnings reporting. It described JPMorgan’s October 13 results as the unofficial start of the reporting season. This was the calendar outlook in a report dated October 5, 2026, not a current schedule.

“The light data calendar means that the investors will be responding to the ebb and flow of geopolitical and market specific developments matched against the latest batch of reasonably supportive economic reports, all ahead of the unofficial start of the reporting season with JP Morgan’s results on October 13,” said Gary Schlossberg.
The report did not state Schlossberg’s role, so no title is attached to the quotation. SP Futures, October 5, 2026
