If your PC runs Windows 11 24H2 Home or Pro, upgrade before support ends. Microsoft’s release-health notice and supported-version table list October 13, 2026 as the end-of-updates date; as of October 7, that is six calendar days away. Microsoft’s separate Home and Pro Lifecycle page lists October 14, 2026 and specifies Pacific Time. The official pages do not explain the one-day discrepancy, so treat October 13 as the earlier published date rather than assuming a precise cutoff time.

Is Windows 11 24H2 still supported?

It is still within its support period on October 7, 2026, but Home and Pro are close to the end. Microsoft’s release-health notice and supported-version table give October 13, 2026 for 24H2 Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations. Microsoft’s Home and Pro Lifecycle page instead lists October 14, 2026 and says lifecycle dates use Pacific Time. Microsoft does not reconcile the difference on those pages.

The deadline depends on edition. Microsoft’s supported-version table lists October 12, 2027 for Windows 11 24H2 Enterprise and Education. Check the edition installed on your PC before applying the Home and Pro date to it.

Why upgrade before the end date?

After Home and Pro 24H2 reaches end of updates, Microsoft says the version no longer receives fixes for known issues, time-zone updates, technical support, or monthly security and preview updates containing current threat protections. Microsoft advises customers to install the latest version before the current one reaches end of servicing to remain supported.

How do I upgrade from Windows 11 24H2?

For an unmanaged Home or Pro PC, Microsoft says the Windows 11 25H2 update will arrive automatically. You can choose when to restart or postpone it. If you want to check for it yourself, use Windows Update:

  1. Open Settings > Windows Update.
  2. Select Check for updates.
  3. If Windows 11 version 25H2 is offered, select Download and install.
  4. Follow the prompts and restart when convenient to complete the update.

The offer may not appear on every device at the same time. Availability can depend on the individual PC, update holds, or organization policy. If 25H2 is not offered, check Windows Update again later; on a work- or school-managed device, ask the administrator about the deployment schedule rather than bypassing the organization’s update policy.

Which version should you expect?

For existing 24H2 PCs, 25H2 is the relevant in-place feature update when it is offered. Microsoft says Windows 11 26H1 is scoped to new devices and is not offered as a feature update from 24H2 or 25H2 on existing devices. Do not treat 26H1 as the upgrade path for your current 24H2 installation.

Does the 24H2 deadline apply to every edition?

No. Microsoft’s servicing model assigns different durations by edition: Home and Pro feature releases receive 24 months of servicing, while Enterprise and Education feature releases receive 36 months, according to its Windows Lifecycle FAQ. For 24H2, Microsoft’s supported-version table gives these dates:

Windows 11 24H2 edition End of updates listed by Microsoft
Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations October 13, 2026 in the release-health notice and supported-version table; October 14, 2026 on the Home and Pro Lifecycle page
Enterprise and Education October 12, 2027

Organizations may manage feature-update deployment centrally, so the consumer Windows Update steps may not match a managed PC’s process. Confirm the installed edition and follow your organization’s guidance.

What happens when Windows 11 24H2 support ends?

For Home and Pro, the end of servicing means 24H2 stops receiving the updates and support listed above. Moving to a supported version before that date avoids remaining on an edition that no longer receives those protections. The 24H2 Enterprise and Education date is later, so users of those editions should follow their own servicing schedule.
