Sterlite Technologies (STL) shares rose 4% to ₹1,038 on the BSE on October 6, 2026, after Nomura initiated coverage with a Buy rating and a ₹1,350 target, according to The Economic Times. The target implied 48.5% upside from that day’s cited price; it is an analyst estimate, not a forecast of a guaranteed return or a live share quote.
Why did Sterlite Tech shares rise?
The immediate catalyst reported on October 6 was Nomura’s initiation of coverage with a Buy rating and ₹1,350 target. The Economic Times said the stock rose 4% to ₹1,038 on the BSE that day. Its reported 48.5% implied upside is calculated from that dated price, not a current market price.

The Economic Times attributed the following forecasts to Nomura for FY26–29F:

What operating results has STL reported?
For Q1 FY27, the quarter ended June 30, 2026, STL reported revenue of ₹1,910 crore, EBITDA of ₹397 crore, an EBITDA margin of 20.8% and an open order book of ₹18,618 crore. The company described the margin as its highest in nearly 20 quarters and its balance sheet as net debt-free. STL attributed part of its margin performance to product mix, operating leverage and a higher contribution from data-center business. It also described itself as a connectivity-solutions provider for AI-ready digital infrastructure and cited a multi-year US$1.11 billion (₹10,000+ crore) contract to supply optical-connectivity products for next-generation AI data centers. The contract and operating explanations are company statements; they do not establish that the brokerage’s growth estimates will be achieved.

The Economic Times reported that STL planned to invest ₹3,000 crore over FY27–29 to expand capacity by 50%, and had completed a ₹1,500 crore qualified institutional placement (QIP) in July 2026. Expansion could support the demand thesis if orders convert into sales, but it also makes delivery, investment funding and cash generation important to track.

The article also reported that STL received US OFNP certification for its Intermittently Bonded Ribbon (IBR) pre-terminated assembly portfolio for indoor AI data-center connectivity. It described the factory-built assemblies as having installed, polished and tested connectors, which can avoid field splicing. This certification detail is based on the newspaper’s account of the company announcement; a separate certification record was not located.

A dated analyst target is best evaluated against subsequent company performance and the assumptions behind it. The Economic Times’ report also said the shares had risen 430% in six months and about 880% year to date at publication; it did not provide an independently checked calculation in the material available here, so those figures should be treated as that article’s dated price-performance claim.

- Compare actual revenue and EBITDA with the reported FY26–29F growth forecasts.
- Watch whether margins and data-center contribution develop as expected.
- Track conversion of the open order book into delivered work and recognized revenue.
- Check whether the planned capacity investment is delivered and how it is funded.
- Assess cash generation and debt alongside expansion spending.
- Compare the market price with the ₹1,350 target only with its October 6, 2026 reference price and the passage of time in view.
