How to add a game and get Steam sale notifications

Open the game’s page in the Steam Store and select the option to add it to your Wishlist.

Review your Steam account’s email and mobile notification settings. Steam says you can opt out of email alerts or disable mobile notifications; do not assume an alert will arrive through a channel you have turned off.

Steam’s Wishlist Notifications page says: “We’ll let you know by email or through our mobile app when the games on your Wishlist are on sale as a Daily Deal, Midweek Deal or Weekend Deal.” This describes the sale types Steam names on that page; it is not a guarantee that every promotion will trigger a notification or that a deal will still be active when you open it.
Organize a long Wishlist
Valve describes Wishlist categories, category-specific notification controls, improved search, and notifications when a Wishlisted game’s demo becomes available in its Wishlist feature announcement. These can help separate games you are ready to buy from titles you are merely watching. The announcement describes the features, but exact interface labels and steps can change, so use the live Steam client or store page for the current controls.

When a third-party price tracker helps
Steam’s Wishlist is the straightforward choice if you only need Steam’s own sale alerts. A separate service can be useful if you want a view of historical prices, more control over alert rules, or prices beyond Steam. These services describe their own features; settings, coverage, and availability may change.

Price history: SteamDB describes historical-price information through its price pages and browser extension. A current discount alone does not tell you whether it is a personal low price.

Custom alert rules or cross-store prices: IsThereAnyDeal describes Waitlist rules and Steam Wishlist import. Check which stores and regions are available to you before relying on a comparison.

Wishlist tracking is not library tracking
A Wishlist is for games you may want to buy, and the described Steam alerts concern games on that Wishlist. It is not a general price-monitoring system for games already in your Steam library or a tracker for everything you own. If your question is whether a game you already own has gone on sale, a Wishlist alert is not the relevant signal.

What a discount alert does—and does not—tell you

An alert tells you that a tracked game met an event or rule described by the service; it does not establish that the discount is the lowest price the game has ever reached.

A notification may not cover every promotion. Steam’s notifications page names Daily Deals, Midweek Deals, and Weekend Deals rather than promising an alert for every possible sale.

Prices and promotions can change. Open the store listing to confirm the current price, discount, edition, and availability before purchasing.

Valve’s Steamworks Wishlist documentation is aimed at game developers and publishers; for a buyer setting up alerts, Steam’s consumer notification page and the live Wishlist controls are the more directly relevant references.
