To find Soulslike demos on Steam Next Fest, open the live event page, browse its categories and Steam Tags, and search for relevant subgenres or features. Before investing time, open each game’s store page and confirm that its demo is available. Next Fest is a changing event for upcoming games—not a fixed Soulslike list—and its October 2026 edition is scheduled for October 19–26.
What Steam Next Fest offers Soulslike fans
Steam Next Fest is a weeklong event centered on upcoming games with playable demos. Steam says the event is intended to connect players with upcoming games and help developers reach potential fans and gather feedback. Trying demos during the event is free, but the event does not guarantee that a particular game fits every player’s definition of a Soulslike.

The October 2026 edition is scheduled to run from October 19 at 10:00 AM PDT (UTC−7) through October 26 at 10:00 AM PDT (UTC−7), according to Steam’s event page. Dates and page layout can change between editions, so check the live page for the edition you plan to browse.
How to find Soulslike demos on Steam
- Open the live Steam Next Fest page. Do this during the edition you want to explore and check the event dates shown there.
- Browse categories and tags. Steam recommends browsing by category or a game’s primary tags, then searching subgenres or specific features. Try the available terms that fit your interests, such as action RPG, parry-focused combat, or dark fantasy, rather than assuming every game uses the exact “Soulslike” label.
- Check each candidate’s store page. Review its description, tags, screenshots, and trailer to see whether its combat and structure match what you want. Look for the game’s own demo or install control and confirm it is available before setting aside time to play.
- Try a manageable number of demos. A short sample is more useful when you focus on a few games and assess the same aspects in each.
- Wishlist games you want to follow. A wishlist helps you keep track of a game; it is not a purchase and does not guarantee that its demo will stay available.
Steam’s event documentation says a game must have a released demo to be eligible for the event page. Still, check the individual store listing rather than inferring current access from a tag, trailer, or mention of an upcoming demo. Steam organizes discovery around categories and Steam Tags, which may not line up exactly with your personal definition of “Soulslike.” See Steamworks’ Next Fest documentation.

What to evaluate in a short demo
A demo may not show the whole game, so treat your impressions as a sample of its core loop rather than a verdict on everything it will contain. Use the same checklist across the games you try:
- Combat feel and readability: Can you understand enemy cues, and do attacks, dodges, blocks, or parries respond in a way that feels satisfying to you?
- Difficulty and recovery: Does the challenge feel engaging, and do checkpoints or other recovery systems make failure tolerable?
- Exploration and level structure: Do routes, shortcuts, and the spaces between encounters hold your interest?
- Performance and controls: Does the demo run acceptably on your setup, and are the controls comfortable with your chosen input method?
- How representative the sample feels: Does the demo give you enough of the game’s central loop to decide whether you want to follow it?
These are personal evaluation criteria, not ratings of any specific game. A promising demo can help identify a game to follow, but it cannot establish how the full release will perform or whether its later content will suit you.

What to do when Next Fest ends
Check the game’s store page for current demo access; do not assume every demo disappears when the event closes or remains playable indefinitely. Developers may choose to leave demos available after the event, but continued access is not guaranteed. Steam’s post-event Wrap-Up highlights games with the most-played demos. It can help you spot popular event demos, but it is not a complete Soulslike recommendation list. The Steam Next Fest page and each game’s listing are the places to check for current event and demo availability.
