In Steam’s September 2026 Hardware & Software Survey, the GeForce RTX 5070 was the most commonly reported individual graphics card, at 5.86%. Systems with 32 GB of system RAM led the memory categories at 42.22%, ahead of 16 GB at 37.82%. These are shares of participating Steam users—not a census of all PC owners or a guide to which hardware performs best.

Which graphics card is most popular on Steam?
The GeForce RTX 5070 was the survey’s leading individual graphics card in September, with 5.86% of reported configurations. Its share rose 2.30 percentage points from August. “Leading” here means most frequently reported in this survey; it does not mean most powerful, best value, or best choice for a particular game or budget.

These figures refer to system RAM—the computer’s main memory—not graphics memory (VRAM). Steam lists those as separate hardware categories. The survey gives capacity shares, not details about a memory kit’s DDR generation, speed, timings, or module arrangement.

Steam describes participation as optional and anonymous. The percentages therefore describe the configurations reported by participating Steam users, rather than all PC owners, all gamers, hardware sales, or the installed base in any one country. Valve’s survey notice says: “Participation in the survey is optional, and anonymous.”

The September movement is notable, but it should not automatically be read as a sudden wave of upgrades. Hardware Busters reported a shift of roughly seven percentage points among users with Simplified Chinese as their language and noted that the participant mix change contributed to movement in the overall results. The available figures do not isolate how much that shift caused the RTX 5070 or RAM changes. A change in who is counted can affect a survey share even when it does not represent an equivalent change in hardware ownership across the full PC population.

What the rankings can—and cannot—tell you
- They can show which GPU model and system-RAM capacities were most commonly reported among the survey participants in September 2026.
- They cannot establish that the RTX 5070 is the fastest or best-value GPU, or that 32 GB is necessary for every user. Those questions require workload-specific benchmarks and, for purchase decisions, prices and availability.
- They do not provide enough detail to choose a RAM kit. Compatibility and performance depend on factors such as motherboard support, DDR generation, capacity, module count, and speed.
