A Steam promotion ending October 25, 2026 is being reported as a “free download,” but the available listing does not identify a game. The date most clearly matches a SteamDB tracker entry scheduled to expire at 18:00 UTC on October 25, 2026; SteamDB’s extracted listing does not state the title, entitlement type or regional rules. Treat it as a lead, not confirmation of a particular free game, and verify the live Steam store page before downloading.
What is actually free on Steam until October 25?
There is no confirmed game title in the available promotion details. The tracker at SteamDB’s upcoming free promotions page shows an offer ending October 25, 2026 at 18:00 UTC, but the retrieved entry does not name the product. That means it is not possible to say responsibly that one specific game is free to keep, free to play or available only for a limited weekend.

The same date falls during Steam Next Fest’s October 2026 edition. Valve’s announcement describes the event as “a week-long celebration of upcoming games featuring demos, developer livestreams and chats,” running October 19–26, 2026. Steam says the festival includes hundreds of free playable demos, so readers may encounter many separate downloads rather than one universal October 25 giveaway. See the official announcement at Steam Promotions.
Do not confuse the four kinds of “free” Steam offer
The store’s entitlement language determines what happens after the deadline. Check the product page for the exact wording before you install it.

| Offer type | What you receive | After the deadline |
|---|---|---|
| Free-to-play | The base game can be downloaded and played without a subscription or credit card. Optional in-game purchases may still be offered. | Usually remains playable, subject to the publisher keeping the game online and available. |
| Free demo | A limited preview of an unreleased or full game. | The demo may be removed or disabled when the event or developer sets an end date; downloading it does not grant the full game. |
| Free weekend | Temporary access to the full game or a specified portion of it. | Access normally ends at the stated time unless you buy the game. |
| Free to keep | A time-limited claim that adds the full entitlement to your Steam library. | It remains in your library after the promotion, subject to the offer’s stated conditions. |
Valve’s support definition is specific: “Free to play games are available to download for free and can be played without a subscription or a credit card.” Optional purchases can exist, and Steam limits some account features when an account has never purchased a game or funded its Steam Wallet. Details are in Steam Support’s free-to-play FAQ.
How to verify the October 25 offer
- Open the live Steam store page. Use the link from the Steam client, the official Steam website or the promotion listing. Do not rely on a headline or a search snippet.
- Read the entitlement label. Look for “Free to Play,” “Download Demo,” a free-weekend notice or language saying the game is free to keep.
- Check the displayed end time. Record the date, clock time and time zone shown on the store page. The tracker’s 18:00 UTC time converts to a different local time depending on where you live.
- Review platform and region information. Confirm that the page lists your operating system or Steam Deck compatibility and that the offer is available in your country.
- Claim or install before the deadline. For a free-to-keep promotion, complete the claim and confirm the game appears in your library; merely downloading a demo or starting a free weekend does not create permanent ownership.
- Check purchase requirements. A free-to-play download should not require a credit card, although Steam may still ask you to sign in and some account functions remain restricted until the account has purchase or Wallet history.
What October 25 means in your time zone
The only published cutoff tied to this headline is 18:00 UTC on October 25, 2026 from the SteamDB tracker. Convert that time to your local zone and allow for daylight-saving changes. Steam or the publisher can alter an end time, and regional editions can show different availability. The store page’s live countdown or end-time notice takes precedence over an older tracker entry.

What Steam Next Fest adds
Next Fest is an event window, not a single game license. During October 19–26, 2026, Steam is promoting hundreds of playable demos alongside developer livestreams and chats. A demo discovered through the event is normally a separate app in your library and should be treated as a preview unless its page explicitly grants another entitlement. Event dates also do not automatically mean every demo remains downloadable until October 25 or until the final day of the festival; each developer controls its own page and availability.

Only a clearly stated free-to-keep claim normally provides a permanent library entitlement. A free-to-play game generally remains available while its service operates, but it can include paid items and account restrictions. A demo is not the full product, and a free weekend ends when its access window closes. Because the October 25 listing does not identify the title or offer type, permanence cannot be confirmed from the date alone.

Common problems and the safest response
The page asks for payment details
Stop and reread the offer label. A genuine free-to-play download should not require a credit card under Steam’s definition, while a discounted full game, subscription trial or paid upgrade is a different promotion. Never assume “free download” means every edition or add-on is free.
The game is missing after installation
Check your Steam Library and transaction or license history. Installing a demo or joining a free weekend does not necessarily add permanent ownership. If the page promised a free-to-keep entitlement, revisit it while the promotion is active and complete the claim process.

The offer is unavailable in your country
Regional pricing, licensing and publisher restrictions can change what appears. The store page for your signed-in account is the authoritative check; do not use a third-party workaround to bypass regional rules.
The deadline has passed
After 18:00 UTC on October 25, 2026, a tracker entry may no longer be claimable. A Next Fest demo can also disappear at the developer’s chosen time. Existing free-to-play installations may continue working, but a free weekend or unclaimed free-to-keep promotion generally will not convert automatically into ownership.
