Some Steam Frame waitlist users say they have been moved into the reservation queue, but that status is not a purchase invitation. Valve’s process puts a later purchase-option email between queue status and the ability to buy. The reported movement is based on individual user accounts: Valve has not published figures showing how many people were moved, how many headsets are reserved, or how many have shipped.
What Steam Frame buyers say happened
Digital Citizen reported on October 2, 2026, that a user posted a September 30 email on Valve’s Steam Frame discussion hub. As reproduced in the report, it opened: “You’re officially in the reservation queue for Steam Frame 1TB Kit”. The article also relayed another user’s account of receiving a similar promotion. These are reports of individual emails, not a Valve announcement or a verified count of everyone whose status changed. The original forum post was not independently retrieved for the report.

Some community posts asked whether others had been “promoted to the Reservation list” and whether they had received a purchase link. That captures the key distinction: being moved forward in the process does not mean a headset is ready to buy.
What each Steam Frame queue status means
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Waitlist | You are waiting for a place in the reservation queue. Valve’s limited-drop terms describe this as being beyond the number of units then available to reserve. |
| Reservation queue | You have progressed beyond the waitlist, but you do not yet have the purchase option. Valve’s terms say purchase-option emails go out as units become available. |
| Purchase option | Valve has emailed you an option to buy. The purchase link expires 72 hours after Valve sends it, according to the limited-drop terms. |
The 72-hour deadline applies to the purchase link, not to the reported email moving someone from the waitlist into the reservation queue. Digital Citizen reported that a missed purchase opportunity passes to the next person.

What is confirmed, reported and still unknown
- Valve’s stated process: Its limited-drop terms describe a reservation queue, a later purchase option as units become available, and a 72-hour expiration for purchase links.
- The recent movement: Buyers reported receiving queue-promotion emails around September 30 and October 1, 2026. The reports establish individual experiences, not the size or coverage of a wave.
- No published total: Digital Citizen said Valve had not published Steam Frame production, reservation or shipping figures as of its October 2 report. No headset count should be attributed to Valve on that basis.
- Why the queue moved: Valve has not said whether these promotions resulted from cancellations, new production or another cause. Digital Citizen relayed a FAQ statement that future production runs may be offered in waitlist order, but that does not establish what caused this particular movement.
- Which buyers are affected: The report did not identify the regions or storage kits involved. It describes queues as specific to region and product, so one person’s progress does not predict another account’s position.
Why community trackers cannot establish the wave’s size
Community trackers and forum posts can show what participating users choose to report, but they are not a Valve order lookup or a representative count of all reservations. Any tracker total should be read as its own self-reported sample, dated and limited to its participants—not extrapolated into total reservations, production or shipments.

The report concerns Valve’s Steam Frame VR headset, offered in 256GB and 1TB kits. Digital Citizen listed prices of $1,059 for the 256GB kit and $1,299 for the 1TB kit, inclusive of VAT where applicable, and listed the 45W power supply separately at $29.
