Check your exact address, the complete first-year cost and the provider’s current terms before choosing. Do not treat the March 2025 Jio–SpaceX announcement, a 2021 regulatory warning or a June 2025 licensing report as proof that Starlink orders are open today.

What the evidence says right now
This is not a like-for-like speed-test comparison. Jio publishes concrete Indian plan examples; Starlink’s Indian consumer launch status and price are not established in the material available here. The practical decision therefore starts with serviceability, not with a headline speed.

- JioFiber: Jio’s official comparison page, accessed in 2026, listed postpaid plans at ₹599 plus GST for up to 30 Mbps, ₹899 plus GST for up to 100 Mbps and ₹999 plus GST for up to 150 Mbps. Each listed unlimited data.
- Starlink: Jio Platforms announced an intended arrangement with SpaceX on 12 March 2025, subject to SpaceX receiving its own Indian authorizations. That release described planned retail and online channels plus installation and activation support; it did not establish that those channels are live now.
- Current availability: Jio is not automatically available at every Indian address, and the reviewed evidence does not verify that Starlink currently accepts residential orders in India.
The latest evidence should be treated as time-sensitive. Plan prices, bundles, address coverage, approvals and ordering status can change, so use the provider’s live address checker and terms at the moment you subscribe.

JioFiber plans and speed
The following are the page-listed Jio postpaid examples. “Up to” is the advertised ceiling, not a promise that every device will measure that rate at every moment. The prices are before GST and exclude any separately stated installation, equipment or other charges that may apply locally.

The annual subtotals are simple 12-month multiplication of the listed monthly figures; they are not final bills. Add GST and any one-time or optional charges, and confirm whether a local offer, billing cycle or eligibility rule changes the amount.
What Jio may bundle
Jio’s home service information describes home Wi-Fi, digital television channels, set-top-box services and OTT subscriptions on qualifying entertainment plans. Those inclusions are plan- and eligibility-dependent, so compare the value of the specific bundle offered at your address rather than assuming every ₹599, ₹899 or ₹999 plan includes the same entertainment benefits. Jio also presents JioAirFiber as a separate home-connectivity option; do not assume an AirFiber offer is interchangeable with a wired JioFiber connection.

The safest answer is: the reviewed evidence does not verify a current residential order path or official Indian price. Jio Platforms’ 12 March 2025 announcement said it had agreed with SpaceX to offer Starlink broadband to Jio customers, but explicitly made the arrangement subject to SpaceX receiving its own authorizations. It described intended retail and online availability and planned customer-service, installation and activation support.
Gwynne Shotwell, SpaceX’s president and chief operating officer, was quoted in that release as saying: “We are looking forward to working with Jio and receiving authorization from the Government of India to provide more people, organizations and businesses with access to Starlink’s high-speed internet services.” The quotation is dated 12 March 2025 and expresses an expectation of authorization, not confirmation that Indian consumers can order.
Why older Starlink references can mislead
On 1 December 2021, India’s Department of Telecommunications advised the public not to subscribe to Starlink’s advertised services because the company had not obtained authorization for the satellite internet services it was then booking. That warning describes the position at that date; it is not a statement of the position in October 2026.
Associated Press reported on 6 June 2025 that a government official said Starlink had received a key license, while also describing separate approvals, spectrum and local-testing steps that remained at that time. A license milestone reported in 2025 still does not prove today’s consumer ordering status, price or installation terms. Verify those items through current official information before paying anyone.
Availability comes before price
A plan is useful only where it can actually be installed. Jio’s published comparison page is not an address-level guarantee, and a national availability statement cannot tell you whether a particular building, lane or village is wired. The TRAI tariff portal can be searched by state or license area and provider, but it is not a replacement for a provider’s own serviceability checker.
Check JioFiber at your address
- Enter the complete service address, including building, locality, city, state and PIN code, in Jio’s current home-broadband availability flow.
- Record the exact product name offered. Confirm whether it is JioFiber, JioAirFiber or another fixed-access option.
- Save the displayed speed tier, monthly rental, GST treatment, installation terms, equipment deposit or rental and any promotional expiry date.
- Ask whether your building requires society permission, an indoor optical-fiber route or a technician visit before activation.
- Request the full first invoice estimate, not only the advertised rental.
Check whether Starlink orders are genuinely open
- Use a current official Starlink India ordering or availability page, if one is published, and enter the exact service address.
- Confirm that the page accepts an Indian address and presents a binding plan, hardware price, taxes, delivery terms and cancellation terms rather than a wait-list or expression-of-interest form.
- Check whether the seller is an authorized channel identified by SpaceX or Jio. Do not pay a reseller based only on a social-media announcement or an old news report.
- Ask who performs installation, what equipment is supplied, how activation works and which support channel handles faults.
- Keep a dated copy of the terms. Satellite approvals, spectrum arrangements and retail channels can change.
Technology and installation differences
JioFiber is a terrestrial home-broadband service when the fiber network reaches the premises. The practical installation question is whether Jio can extend or activate that network at your address and what indoor equipment the current plan supplies. Jio’s separate AirFiber product uses a different access method, so the installer and contract should identify the service explicitly.

Starlink is a satellite-broadband proposition. The March 2025 Jio–SpaceX release anticipated dedicated equipment and installation and activation support through the proposed relationship, but it did not publish Indian hardware specifications, a confirmed installation fee or a current consumer timetable. Treat every equipment or installation amount as unverified until it appears in a live official offer.
Questions to ask before installation
- Is the connection wired fiber, fixed wireless or satellite?
- Which modem, router, dish or other terminal is included, rented or purchased?
- Is professional installation included, optional or charged separately?
- Who owns the equipment if you cancel?
- What happens if the first installation attempt fails or the address is later found to be outside coverage?
- Which replacement, repair and support terms apply after the introductory period?
Price comparison: what can and cannot be calculated
Jio’s three listed rentals let you create a transparent baseline. Before GST, a year at ₹599 is ₹7,188; at ₹899 it is ₹10,788; at ₹999 it is ₹11,988. These figures are arithmetic, not quotes for your household. GST, installation, deposits, optional set-top-box or entertainment charges, and changes after a promotion can alter the final total.

No verified official Starlink India price was supplied. Do not substitute leaked, projected or overseas pricing: hardware, taxes, spectrum policy, currency and support arrangements can make those figures irrelevant to an Indian household. The correct Starlink comparison is the complete Indian checkout total once an official order page is available.

Which connection fits common home situations?
You live in a city or apartment where JioFiber is confirmed
Jio is the more actionable choice because you can compare a real local quote, a stated speed tier and a stated unlimited-data policy. Choose among the listed tiers based on simultaneous users and the value of eligible TV or OTT benefits, then confirm the installation and bill details.
You live in a rural or remote area with no practical wired option
Starlink could be relevant precisely because it is a satellite option, but relevance is not availability. Proceed only after an official Indian order page accepts your address and shows the full price and support terms. Until then, compare any currently serviceable terrestrial or fixed-wireless alternatives rather than paying for a promise.
You need internet for several heavy users
Start with the listed Jio speed tiers and unlimited-data wording, then check whether the local plan has changed. Do not infer that a Starlink service will deliver a particular household speed or data policy until those terms are published for India. No controlled household test directly comparing Starlink and JioFiber was verified.

The 30 Mbps Jio tier may be sufficient for a small household if it is available and the actual bill fits your budget. The right choice still depends on the number of simultaneous devices, Wi-Fi layout and reliability at your address; an advertised ceiling is not a guarantee of every device’s measured throughput.
You want bundled entertainment
Compare the qualifying Jio plan’s actual channel, OTT and set-top-box inclusions with their standalone value. Do not count a bundle unless it appears in your order summary. No equivalent current Starlink India bundle was established.

- What speed tier is contractually attached to the address?
- Are there installation constraints that could delay activation?
- What support channel handles outages, and during which hours?
- Is the listed data policy truly unlimited for the selected plan, and are there any conditions in the full terms?
- What equipment is included, and can you use your own router?
- How are faults, relocation and cancellation handled?
For Starlink in particular, do not turn generic satellite expectations or overseas user reports into an Indian performance promise. The available evidence contains no directly comparable Starlink-versus-JioFiber household measurements.
Support, equipment and contract checks
Jio’s home-service information describes customer-facing Wi-Fi, television and set-top-box elements, while the proposed Starlink arrangement said Jio would establish customer-service, installation and activation support. “Planned support” is not the same as a published service-level commitment, so obtain the current escalation route in writing.
Before you submit payment
- Confirm the legal provider named on the order.
- Read the cancellation, refund and relocation rules.
- Check whether equipment is loaned, rented or owned by you.
- Ask how long installation normally takes at your address and what happens if coverage is unavailable.
- Save the plan name, price, tax line, promised speed, data policy and bundle list as a PDF or screenshot.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Choosing from a national headline
Coverage varies by address. A plan shown on a public page does not prove that your building can be connected. Run the exact address check first.
Using a historical regulatory notice as today’s answer
The 1 December 2021 Department of Telecommunications advisory is important context, but it cannot establish Starlink’s October 2026 status. Pair every regulatory claim with its date and then check current official ordering information.
Treating an announcement as a launch
The 12 March 2025 Jio–SpaceX announcement was conditional on SpaceX receiving authorizations. It described intended channels and support, not a confirmed live tariff.

Trusting leaked or overseas Starlink prices
No official Indian Starlink price was verified. Use only a current Indian checkout or published tariff; otherwise mark the figure unknown.
A decision process you can use today
- Map your address: Check JioFiber and any other terrestrial options using the full address. Separately check whether an official Starlink India order page accepts the same address.
- Define the workload: List people, devices, video calls, streaming, gaming, work uploads and any requirement for uninterrupted connectivity.
- Build comparable totals: Put 12 months of rental, GST, hardware, installation, deposits and bundle charges in one worksheet.
- Read the terms: Verify speed wording, data policy, support, cancellation, relocation and equipment ownership.
- Choose only among confirmed offers: If Jio is serviceable and Starlink has no official Indian order path, Jio is the actionable choice. If neither is confirmed, continue checking rather than paying an intermediary.
- Recheck before installation: Prices, bundles, approvals and availability can change between research and activation.
Bottom line
JioFiber is the practical, priceable option for an Indian home where Jio confirms service: its published examples are ₹599 plus GST for up to 30 Mbps, ₹899 plus GST for up to 100 Mbps and ₹999 plus GST for up to 150 Mbps, each with unlimited data. Starlink deserves consideration mainly where terrestrial choices are unavailable, but its Indian residential availability and price must be confirmed through a current official channel. There is no verified like-for-like household test that justifies naming a measured performance winner. Let your address, complete first-year cost and confirmed terms decide.
