Choose address-qualified 5G home internet when an operator confirms strong indoor reception, the price and commitment suit your use, and evening tests are stable. Choose Starlink when mobile broadband is weak or unavailable and your property has a clear view of the sky. If both work, compare measured evening performance and the complete first-year cost—and check fiber before treating these as your only options.
What decides the choice at your Spanish address
The technology label is less important than the conditions at the property. A national 5G statistic cannot tell you whether a router inside your home will receive a stable signal, while Starlink’s published speed range cannot predict the result at a particular roof, balcony or garden. The practical decision has four gates:
As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.
- Eligibility: the provider must accept the exact service address.
- Physical installation: 5G needs usable indoor radio reception; Starlink needs an unobstructed view of the sky and a safe cable route.
- Observed performance: measure download, upload, latency, packet stability and video-call quality at the times you actually use the connection.
- Total commitment: include the normal price after promotions, activation, equipment payments or returns, and any cancellation charge.
Fiber may be available even when a mobile or satellite option looks attractive. Check fixed-line availability first; it can change the answer entirely for a home that needs consistent low latency and high upload capacity.
Spain’s 5G coverage figures are a starting point, not a guarantee
Spain’s Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Public Service reported 99.27% national 5G population coverage and 96% rural 5G population coverage in its 2026 release using 2025 data. Those percentages describe people covered by the mobile network, not every room in every covered house. Hills, building materials, distance from the serving site, network load and the position of your indoor router can produce a very different result.

The ministry’s public coverage map represents service areas on a grid with a minimum resolution of 50 × 50 metres. Use it to screen an area, not to approve a purchase. A shaded square can include streets, elevations and buildings with very different indoor conditions. An operator’s address checker and a test inside the intended room are more relevant than the national headline.
Orange explicitly advises checking indoor coverage before taking its equipment to another location and checks the habitual address during signup. The same principle applies to every 5G offer: ask whether the qualification is tied to one address, whether the supplied router can be moved, and what happens if reception is inadequate after activation.
Current 5G home offers to compare
Provider prices and terms change, so verify the checkout page for your address. The figures below are the terms described in the available provider material; they are not a promise that the same offer will still be on sale.
| Service | Advertised connection | Price and equipment | Commitment or usage condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Movistar Hogar Conectado 5G | 4G/5G internet advertised up to 1 Gbps, depending on coverage | €30 per month standard price; router included | No permanence stated on the offer page. A €19.90 monthly promotion ended on 14 September 2026. |
| Orange 5G en casa | Unlimited 5G data | €3 for each day the service is switched on, capped at €33 in a month; €20 activation charge; router loaned | The router-loan arrangement described includes 12 months’ permanence; other arrangements may have no permanence. Confirm the applicable checkout terms. |
| Vodafone Internet Portátil 5G | Up to 1 Gbps on 5G or up to 150 Mbps on 4G, subject to coverage and network conditions | €20 per month for the first 12 months, then €30; 5G router at €1 per month for 36 months, becoming yours after payment | 12-month service commitment. Early cancellation charge is capped at €70 under the stated offer. |
How the listed prices translate into a first-year budget
Simple arithmetic helps expose differences, but these totals are derived from the listed terms and exclude anything the provider does not specify in the cited offer, such as optional installation or later price changes.
- Movistar: €30 × 12 months = €360 for the first year, with the router included and no permanence stated on the page.
- Orange: continuous use at the monthly cap is €33 × 12 = €396, plus the €20 activation charge, or €416 for the first year. If you switch the service off for part of a month, the daily charging structure can produce a lower total; check how switching is recorded and billed.
- Vodafone: €20 × 12 = €240 for service, plus €1 × 12 = €12 for the router during the first year, or €252 before any other charges. The router instalment continues for 36 months, even though the service price changes after month 12.
These calculations are not like-for-like speed tests. A 1 Gbps headline is a maximum under qualifying network conditions, not a guaranteed throughput in your room. Compare the result of an actual test at the address with the normal price after any introductory period.
What Starlink adds—and what it cannot promise
Sky visibility is the first requirement
Starlink’s residential terminal communicates with satellites, so it needs an unobstructed view of the sky. Trees, chimneys, parapets, nearby buildings and roof overhangs can interrupt the link. Use the provider’s obstruction-checking guidance or its app at the proposed terminal position before ordering. A clear patch from a window is not automatically sufficient: the terminal may need to be outside with a stable view across a broad section of sky.

The Standard kit documentation lists a terminal, Gen 3 Wi‑Fi 6 router, power supply, stand and cables. The router is specified for indoor use and has two Ethernet ports. A roof or wall mount, longer cable or professional installation may be needed depending on the building. Those additions are property-specific costs and are not included in the basic kit contents listed above.

Published performance ranges
Starlink’s general service specification gives typical land-service figures of 25–220 Mbps download, 5–20 Mbps upload and 25–60 ms latency. Remote locations can have higher latency. Starlink also says actual speed and uninterrupted service are not guaranteed, and heavy usage can reduce performance. Treat these as broad service guidance, not a prediction for your Spanish address or a substitute for testing.
Spanish plan figures require a live checkout check
A Spanish report dated 18 March 2026 described three residential tiers: Residential 100 at €29 per month, with downloads capped at 100 Mbps and reported uploads of 15–35 Mbps; Residential 200 at €39 per month, with up to 200 Mbps; and Residential Max at €59 per month, exceeding 400 Mbps with traffic priority. This is a dated secondary report, not a verified live Spanish order page. Confirm the plan name, price, hardware charges, taxes, availability and any traffic policy at the service address before relying on those numbers.
If those reported monthly prices were still offered unchanged, the subscription-only arithmetic would be €348, €468 and €708 respectively for 12 months. That excludes the physical kit, shipping, installation, mounting and any other checkout charge, so it is not a complete first-year comparison with the 5G offers.
Step-by-step: qualify both services before you cancel anything
- Write down the exact service address. Include the postcode, building number, apartment or unit, and the room or outdoor position where you would install the equipment. Rural properties and developments can have multiple address records.
- Screen the area on the ministry coverage map. Check the 4G/5G layer, remembering that the map’s minimum 50 × 50 metre grid cannot show indoor reception or every elevation change.
- Run each operator’s address checker. Ask Movistar, Orange and Vodafone whether the offer is available at that address, which radio technology is expected there, and whether the router is restricted to the registered location.
- Test indoors at the intended router position. Use a current 5G phone with a SIM from the same network, if possible. Test near the window, in the room where the router will live and in the location where you need reliable Wi‑Fi. A phone test is an indication, not a guarantee, because the supplied router and antenna placement can differ.
- Inspect the proposed Starlink position. Look upward from the terminal location at several times of day. Account for seasonal foliage, new construction, roof edges and a safe route for the cable into the house.
- Check live Starlink availability and checkout terms. Enter the full address and record the current plan, equipment price, delivery, taxes, installation options and cancellation conditions. Do not rely on a reported Spanish price without this check.
- Ask about a trial, return or cooling-off process. Get the conditions in writing, including who pays return shipping, whether activation fees are refundable and how a failed coverage test is handled.
How to compare performance fairly
Do not place a 5G provider’s maximum speed beside Starlink’s typical range and call the larger number the winner. Measure both services under comparable conditions.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Run tests at useful times
- Test on at least one weekday evening, when neighbors are online and mobile cells may be busiest.
- Repeat in the morning and at the weekend to reveal congestion patterns.
- Run several tests a few minutes apart rather than trusting one peak result.
Record more than download speed
- Download: affects streaming, downloads and software updates.
- Upload: matters for cloud backup, sending large files and live video.
- Latency: affects interactive work, gaming and call responsiveness.
- Jitter and packet loss: expose instability that a speed test’s headline may hide.
- Video calls: make a real call while another household member streams or uploads; note freezes, audio gaps and reconnections.
Test over Ethernet when comparing the connection itself, then test Wi‑Fi from the rooms where people work. A weak Wi‑Fi signal inside the house is a separate problem from a weak 5G or satellite link. Keep a dated log with the test location, time, network, device and result.

Which option fits common Spanish household situations?
| Situation | More promising starting point | Why, and what to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Urban or suburban home with confirmed strong indoor 5G | 5G home internet | Usually simpler to install and may offer up to 1 Gbps on the reviewed plans. Verify evening congestion, indoor placement and the post-promotion price. |
| Rural home with weak or absent mobile signal but open sky | Starlink | Satellite service can bypass a poor terrestrial mobile link. Confirm unobstructed sky, mounting, cable entry and live address availability. |
| Rural home with trees, steep terrain or blocked roofline | Whichever passes a physical inspection | Starlink obstructions can cause interruptions, while 5G may also be weak. Do not order either on a map colour alone. |
| Intermittent occupancy, such as a second home | Orange may be worth pricing | The listed €3-per-day charging while switched on and €33 monthly cap can suit occasional use, but activation and permanence terms need confirmation. |
| Remote work with frequent large uploads | Service with the higher measured upload and stable latency | Advertised download maxima do not answer this question. Test uploads and calls during the busiest period. |
| Competitive online gaming | Lowest measured latency and jitter | Run repeated tests at the gaming time. Starlink’s generic 25–60 ms land-latency range is not a guarantee, and a congested 5G cell can also perform poorly. |
| Several simultaneous 4K streams and large downloads | Whichever sustains capacity under load | Use a multi-device evening test. The advertised tier or typical range alone cannot show how the connection behaves with several users. |
Installation and day-to-day practicalities
5G home internet
The supplied router is normally the core of the service. Place it where the 5G signal is strongest, often near an exterior wall or window, while keeping it ventilated and close enough to your wired or Wi‑Fi devices. Moving it a few metres can change reception; test before fixing it permanently. Ask whether an external antenna is supported—do not assume that a generic antenna will work with a provider-locked router.
Because the service is radio-based, performance can vary with weather only indirectly through network conditions, but load, cell upgrades and local demand can change results. A provider’s “up to” figure is not a service-level guarantee. Keep the contract, router return rules and any location restriction accessible in case you move the equipment.
Starlink
Plan the terminal, power outlet, cable path and indoor router location before drilling or climbing. The standard stand may be adequate on a suitable ground or roof surface; exposed or sloped locations may require a compatible mount. Keep the power supply dry and follow the equipment’s installation guidance. If the only clear view is on a roof, price safe access or an installer rather than treating self-install as risk-free.
Obstructions are a recurring maintenance issue. A tree that is clear in winter can block part of the view in summer, and new construction can create a blind sector. Check the obstruction view again if interruptions begin.
Contract, equipment and cancellation traps
- Expired promotions: the Movistar €19.90 price ended on 14 September 2026. Budget the stated €30 standard price unless a current offer is shown at checkout.
- Daily charging is not automatically cheap: Orange’s €3-per-day model reaches its €33 monthly cap after 11 billed days, then remains capped for the rest of that month. Confirm what “switched on” means operationally.
- Router instalments continue: Vodafone’s €1 monthly router charge runs for 36 months. The service price changes after month 12, and the router becomes yours only after the instalments are paid.
- Permanence differs by arrangement: Orange describes 12 months under the loaned-router arrangement and no permanence in other cases; read the exact terms attached to your order.
- Satellite hardware is a separate commitment: Starlink checkout may combine a monthly service with a kit, shipping or mounting. Record the return window and the condition required for a refund.
- Address changes can matter: ask whether a 5G router or Starlink terminal can be moved to a holiday home, and whether a new address must pass a fresh eligibility check.
A practical decision rule
- Fiber available and affordable? Compare it first, especially for intensive uploads, gaming and multiple simultaneous users.
- No fiber? Eliminate any 5G offer that fails the exact-address check or produces unstable indoor tests.
- 5G weak or unavailable? Proceed to Starlink only if the sky inspection is clear and the full hardware-plus-service cost fits your budget.
- Both pass? Choose the connection with the better evening latency and stability for your main activities, then use first-year total cost and contract flexibility as tie-breakers.
- Neither passes? Ask providers about a different installation point, an external antenna or a wired alternative before signing a long commitment.
The right answer is therefore address-specific: a confirmed indoor 5G signal is usually the simpler choice, while Starlink is the fallback that becomes compelling where terrestrial mobile broadband cannot deliver and the property has open sky. Only a measured test at your home can settle the comparison.
