Choose the Community Center if collecting items, exploring Stardew Valley’s different activities, and earning bundle rewards are part of the fun. Choose Joja if you would rather earn gold and spend it on defined town upgrades than track down specific items. The decision is permanent: buying Joja membership for 5,000g replaces the Community Center with a Joja Warehouse and commits that save to Joja’s paid development system.
How the two routes differ
| What matters | Community Center | Joja |
|---|---|---|
| Main task | Donate requested items to complete bundles. | Pay gold for town development projects. |
| What you get along the way | Individual bundle rewards and larger rewards for completing rooms. | Access to each purchased improvement; completing the form also grants a Soda Machine. |
| Town outcome | The Community Center is restored and reopens. | The Center becomes a Joja Warehouse. |
| Commitment | Complete the bundles to restore the Center. | Buying membership permanently replaces the Center; partial bundle progress does not discount unfinished projects. |
The choice is about the kind of effort you prefer, not a universally correct or more efficient route. Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone has said the game’s contrast can feel too black-and-white: “I feel like it’s a little bit too on the nose with, like, ‘Joja are the bad guys and the community center is the right way to do it,’” and, “Nothing is ever that black and white in reality.” GamesRadar+ reported the remarks in 2025.

Choose the Community Center if you like gathering and rewards
What you do
Donate the items listed on the Community Center’s golden scrolls to complete bundles. Requested goods draw on several parts of the game, including farming, fishing, foraging, mining, and artisan production. Completing an individual bundle gives a reward; completing every bundle in a room earns a larger room reward. See the bundle list and rewards and the Community Center overview.
The standard arrangement has six rooms and 30 bundles. A new save can instead use the remixed-bundles option, so the exact requests may differ. The route can encourage you to try a broad range of activities, but there is no dependable completion year: timing, play choices, and bundle settings affect what you can provide and when.

How it ends
Completing every bundle restores the Center and leads to a reopening ceremony. The ceremony grants the Local Legend achievement and Stardew Hero Trophy. The Community Center path also provides a Friendship reward that the Joja route does not.
Choose Joja if you prefer paying for upgrades
Membership and project costs
Buy Joja membership from Morris for 5,000g, then use the Joja Community Development Form to purchase five improvements. The project prices below are fixed gold costs, not estimates of the value of bundle items.
| Development project | Cost | What it enables |
|---|---|---|
| Bus repair | 40,000g | Repairs the bus. |
| Quarry bridge | 25,000g | Repairs the bridge to the Quarry. |
| Glittering boulder removal | 20,000g | Enables panning. |
| Minecart repair | 15,000g | Repairs the minecarts. |
| Greenhouse | 35,000g | Restores the Greenhouse. |
| Five developments | 135,000g | |
| Membership plus all five | 140,000g total |
These details are documented on the Joja Community Development Form page. You can buy only one development per day, and it is completed after you sleep. Joja avoids the need to source bundle items, but you still need the gold and cannot purchase every upgrade in a single day.

If you finish every bundle in a Community Center room before buying membership, the corresponding Joja development remains complete. Partial progress does not lower the price: an unfinished project still costs its full listed amount. If you are already working on bundles, weigh that lost progress against the permanent change before joining.

Extra Joja-route items
Completing the development form gives you a Soda Machine. Separately, an Auto-Petter becomes available to buy at JojaMart for 50,000g after the developments are complete; it is not included in the route’s completion reward.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Make the choice based on what you want from the save
- Pick the Community Center if finding requested goods, trying multiple game systems, collecting bundle rewards, and restoring the town sound satisfying.
- Pick Joja if you would rather earn gold and purchase clearly priced improvements, avoid a specific item checklist, or value the later option to buy an Auto-Petter.
- If you are undecided, wait before buying membership. The switch is permanent, and only fully completed rooms preserve their corresponding Joja developments; partial bundle work does not reduce project prices.
Neither route is established as universally faster. Joja removes collection requirements, but its 140,000g total cost and one-project-per-day limit still shape how quickly you can finish. Community Center progress depends on finding the requested items, with availability affected by timing and the selected bundle setup.
