Star Wars: Galactic Racer puts racing, piloting and rivalries—not Jedi or lightsaber combat—at the center of a Star Wars game. Its October 6, 2026 launch makes it a timely example of how much the franchise can do beyond the familiar Jedi fantasy. It makes a persuasive case for more variety, though one game cannot prove a franchise-wide shortage or establish what audiences want.

What is Star Wars: Galactic Racer?

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a racing adventure set in the Galactic League, a high-stakes circuit in the Outer Rim. Its story follows Shade, whose conflict with champion Kestar Bool gives the competition a personal rivalry as well as a finish line. The game launched worldwide on October 6, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Lucasfilm’s launch announcement and the official game site establish the release and premise.

Players race landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders and podracers. The setting includes Jakku, Sentinel I, Lantaana, Derven Acos, Ando Prime, Tatooine and Crait. The cast combines established character Sebulba with newcomers Shade, Darius Pax, Kestar Bool and Hibi. Official gameplay coverage details the vehicles, locations and characters.

How do its modes and progression work?

The game offers Campaign, Scenario and Arcade modes. Its runs-based structure asks players to choose events and unlocks, then try to survive a sequence of races: too many crashes end a run, while some perks carry over to later attempts. That creates a different rhythm from a straightforward race-by-race career, pairing immediate risk with longer-term progression. The official mode overview describes the structure.

#1 Best Overall
Star Wars Galactic Racer - PlayStation 5
  • COMPETE IN HIGH-STAKES RACES - Slam, shunt, and takedown rivals across varied circuits as you pilot land speeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and pod racers. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.
  • SURVIVE A DANGEROUS UNDERGROUND SPORT - Join The Galactic League - an unsanctioned racing circuit born in the lawless Outer Rim. Become Shade, a lone racer chasing revenge and glory.
  • BUILD AND CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRAFT - Pilot different classes of repulsorcraft each with distinct physics and playstyles. Build a ride that showcases your style and gives you a competitive edge.
  • BATTLE RIVALS IN MULTIPLE GAME MODES - Ride solo through a story-driven campaign of shifting alliances or brave strategic PvP grudge matches where reputation rides with you.
  • CLIMB THE RANKS AND EARN REWARDS - Prove yourself through intense rivalries and escalating challenges. Every choice shapes your prospects as you build your status in The Galactic League.
  • Campaign: The story-led route through Shade’s conflict with Kestar Bool.
  • Scenario: A separate mode for taking on racing situations.
  • Arcade: A mode for racing outside the campaign structure.

Why does a non-Jedi game matter to Star Wars?

The franchise’s galaxy has always offered more than one kind of adventure, but games centered on Jedi and lightsabers can make that feel like the default. Galactic Racer instead makes pilots, machines, rivalries and racing culture its organizing ideas. The official site sums up its intended distinction in marketing copy: “No Force. No prophecy. Just skill, strategy, and the will to survive.” That is a statement of positioning, not a claim that every gameplay moment excludes Force-related material.

The distinction matters because a setting becomes richer when different genres explore different parts of it. Racing can make vehicle control and competition the source of drama; a Jedi-led action game can focus on other conflicts and abilities. More games with distinct central fantasies would let Star Wars feel like a galaxy inhabited by many kinds of people, rather than a setting whose stories must always lead back to Jedi.

What makes the racing feel suited to the setting?

Lucasfilm Games executive producer Craig Derrick said the goal was to deliver a racing experience that was “cinematic, skill-driven, and unmistakably Star Wars.” That statement accompanied the February 12, 2026 gameplay reveal and describes the team’s intent, not an independent assessment of the finished game. The reveal also identifies Fuse Games as Lucasfilm’s development partner.

Vehicle handling is meant to distinguish the craft rather than make them interchangeable. The developers describe landspeeders as car-like, speeder bikes as bike-like, skim speeders as plane-like, and podracers through a mix of horse-and-chariot and Formula 1 comparisons. Design Director Mark Bridges says an early prototype used tire-like traction, drawing on his experience building wheeled vehicles, but the team removed that approach because repulsorcraft do not grip the ground like wheeled vehicles. These are developer explanations of design choices, not published measurements of physics. The official handling discussion gives more detail.

Marvel's Wolverine PS5
  • Marvel’s Wolverine is a new action-packed adventure from Insomniac Games
  • Play as Wolverine and Ravage enemies with explosive brutality and unleash razor-sharp adamantium claws to deploy fast, fluid attacks and overcome impossible odds
  • An Original, Emotionally Charged Story. Beneath Wolverine’s gruff exterior and violent temperament is a man fighting for a cause greater than himself
  • A Global, Adrenaline-Fueled Journey where you slice into enemies across detailed locales such as the frosted Canadian Wilderness, the narrow streets of Tokyo, and the high and low districts of the island nation of Madripoor

Fuse Games says its team has experience with Need for Speed and Burnout, while Lucasfilm describes the studio collaboration in its gameplay announcement. That background is relevant to a game built around racing, but pedigree alone does not guarantee quality. Fuse Games’ background and Lucasfilm’s reveal provide the studio context.

Is it the right Star Wars game for you?

The clearest question is whether you want a vehicle-centered Star Wars adventure or a Jedi-focused action game. The distinctions below draw on the official game descriptions; the preference guidance is a way to decide what kind of play sounds appealing.

For a sense of how critics have responded, Creative Bloq highlights the focused choice to build around speeders and podracing, including differences between vehicle types. PC Gamer discusses the racing culture imagined for the period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens. Those are individual outlets’ perspectives, not evidence of a universal critical consensus. Read Creative Bloq’s coverage and PC Gamer’s review for their respective takes.

What is established—and what is not?

Galactic Racer establishes that a Star Wars game can make racing and vehicle culture its core rather than putting a Jedi at the center. That is a meaningful creative example, not proof that the franchise has too few non-Jedi games or that players uniformly want more of them. The available launch information does not establish a sales or audience-demand result that would settle those broader questions.

Best Value
Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster - PlayStation 5
  • Access to “The Vault”. Enjoy a thoughtfully curated collection of various types of development material and in-game assets showcasing the rich history of this iconic title.
  • Engaging first-person ground combat featuring ten weapons and twenty types of enemies.
  • Advanced 3D rendering enables updated lighting and atmospheric effects.
  • A variety of power-ups are made available to the player, including health, shields, weapons and ammunition. For combat, the player may use fists, explosive landmines and thermal detonators, as well as blasters and other ranged weapons.
  • Includes immersive environmental puzzles and mazes.

That limit does not weaken the case for variety: it clarifies what the game can demonstrate. A franchise with room for Jedi stories and vehicle-racing adventures has more ways to explore its galaxy. Galactic Racer is a concrete case for that creative possibility.
