Eligible Amazon Prime members can play the single-player campaign of Star Wars: Galactic Racer on Amazon Luna at no additional cost, beginning on the game’s worldwide release day, October 6, 2026. That makes it a notable example of a major game arriving on a cloud-streaming service alongside its wider release—but one launch is not proof that the industry is changing course.
Is Star Wars: Galactic Racer free on Amazon Luna?
Amazon says the single-player campaign is available on Luna at no additional cost to Prime members in regions where Luna is available with Prime. “Free” therefore means included with an eligible Prime membership; it does not mean the game or Prime subscription is free to everyone, or that the offer is available worldwide. The October 6 announcement specifically names the campaign. Although Amazon describes Arcade and Scenarios as modes in the game, it does not explicitly say that those modes are part of the Luna offering, so don’t assume they are included.

Yes. Amazon Game Studios announced the Luna availability for October 6, 2026, the same day as the game’s worldwide release. The company says eligible Prime members can start the campaign without owning a console or waiting for a lengthy download. That is an access benefit Amazon describes; it is not an independent comparison of total cost, stream quality, or performance.

Amazon’s Head of Gaming, Jeff Gattis, said Luna players could “jump into the single-player campaign the moment it launches.” His statement explains Amazon’s launch-day offer, but the company’s description of it as a first should be treated as Amazon’s own characterization rather than independently established industry history.
What kind of game is Star Wars: Galactic Racer?
Amazon describes Star Wars: Galactic Racer as a runs-based racing adventure set early in the New Republic era. Players take the role of Shade and compete in the Galactic League, an underground racing circuit. The campaign involves choosing routes and events, upgrading vehicles, and developing a racing setup.

Racing modes and vehicles
Amazon also describes Arcade events as short challenges and Scenarios as longer runs with different rules and characters. The announcement lists landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers, each with distinct handling; podracers compete only against other podracers because of their speed.

Locations, characters, and developer
Named locations include Jakku, Ando Prime, and Sentinel I, and the familiar racer Sebulba returns. Amazon identifies Fuse Games as the developer, describing the studio as founded by racing-game veterans whose credits include Burnout and Need for Speed.

Do you need a console to play it?
Not to access the Luna campaign: Amazon says eligible Prime members can play through Luna without owning a console. Cloud streaming is an alternative to playing through another platform, and it can avoid a lengthy game download. Creative Bloq reported availability on PS5 and PC, but the cited reporting does not establish current physical editions, prices, or retail stock across platforms. Choose Luna if its regional eligibility and streaming setup suit you; verify other platform and purchase details with the relevant retailer before buying.

It demonstrates that a game can arrive on a cloud-streaming service on the same day as its worldwide release, with campaign access included for eligible Prime members. That lowers two barriers for those players: needing a console and waiting for a lengthy download. It is a meaningful distribution example, not evidence that same-day cloud access will become standard.

The announcement and contemporaneous coverage do not establish whether this approach will be widely adopted, or whether it improves sales, player retention, or profitability. They also do not provide enough information to compare streaming quality, latency, device requirements, or the total cost of Luna access against buying the game. Treat the launch as a noteworthy experiment in distribution rather than a proven industry-wide turning point.
