Star Wars: Galactic Racer let me fail early—and that failure made its campaign click. In my second race, an Elimination event required a top-three finish. I expected a gentler introduction, finished near the back, and was among the first racers out. The attempt ended, but the campaign’s permanent upgrades did not disappear.
What happened in my second race?
I went into an early Elimination event expecting the game to ease me in. Instead, the objective was clear: finish in the top three. I came in near the back and was eliminated before I could advance the story in that run.

My first thought was that I might have lost all my progress. Then I understood the campaign’s structure: a failed run ends that attempt, while permanent upgrades can carry forward into the next one.

How does the campaign’s roguelite loop work?
The single-player campaign is described as a sequence of runs rather than a straightforward chain of races. During a run, players make strategic choices from the options available. If they crash out or fail to advance, they can cash in for permanent upgrades and start another run.

- During a run: Build a strategy with the choices available in that attempt and try to progress the story.
- If the run ends: The attempt is over, but permanent upgrades can carry into later runs.
- On the next attempt: Start again with that lasting progression and make new choices.
That distinction matters: being eliminated is a setback within a run, not necessarily a wipe of all campaign progress.
Why did an early elimination change how I saw the game?
At first, I read the race as an unexpectedly harsh onboarding. Once I understood the loop, the failure felt less like a broken promise and more like part of the campaign’s design: a run can go badly, and you have to try again.

That also sharpened the game’s racing fantasy for me. Star Wars: Galactic Racer is built around dangerous, high-speed competition; the possibility of crashing out made that recklessness feel immediate. A story scene can tell you a race is perilous. Losing a run because you did not place high enough made me feel the risk instead. That is my reading of the experience, not a claim that every player will respond the same way.
