You can race with friends online in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, but it does not offer split-screen or co-op campaign progression. Its campaign is a solo experience; multiplayer is competitive PvP racing. The practical distinction: you can party with up to three players, while a race can hold more racers overall.
Does Star Wars: Galactic Racer have co-op or split-screen?
Not in the usual shared-campaign or couch co-op sense. Official materials describe the campaign as single-player and multiplayer as competitive racing. The developer FAQ explicitly says split-screen multiplayer is unsupported, so two people sharing one console cannot race each other on a shared screen. You can instead play together online in PvP races.

The official game site also describes online podracer-focused events. That makes multiplayer a way to compete with friends, not a way to progress through the solo story together. Official game information and the Secret Mode FAQ explain the modes and multiplayer limits.

These are different limits: party size is the number of players grouped together, while race capacity is the total number of racers in a match. The developer FAQ currently lists parties of up to three players. A standard speeder race supports up to 12 racers total, and a podracer race supports up to eight. Empty race positions can be filled by AI racers.

The FAQ says the team planned to raise the party limit to six within the first few weeks after launch. That wording is a target, not confirmation that the change has shipped; the current listed limit remains three. Check the FAQ for a newer limit before organizing a larger group.
Does Galactic Racer support cross-play?
Yes. The developer FAQ says cross-play between PC and consoles is enabled by default and can be disabled. Steam and Xbox also list cross-platform multiplayer support. The FAQ does not document a precise current sequence of buttons for inviting a friend, so use the game’s multiplayer or social interface and your platform’s friend system rather than relying on an assumed menu path.

What happens when you search for an online race?
Matchmaking first looks for an existing race with room. In Multiplayer Tour or Podracer Tour, that race may already be underway: late arrivals can spectate and join the next race, with resources intended to help them avoid falling behind. If there is no suitable race, matchmaking can start a new Tour or Quick Race when your searching group and at least one other unique player are present. That means a party of two may wait for someone outside the party to be searching before a new race begins.

- Matchmaking prioritizes players in the same region, then may search across regions if needed.
- AI racers can fill unoccupied race slots.
- Joining an active Tour may mean watching until its next race rather than entering the current one.
What kinds of multiplayer and friend challenges are available?
Live competitive races
Multiplayer is framed as PvP competition, including online podracer events. A launch reviewer described Multiplayer Tour as five races followed by a season decider, with bots filling gaps. That is the reviewer’s account of the mode at launch, not a guarantee that every playlist or later version uses the same format.

Arcade time challenges
The official site says Arcade mode lets players jump into podracing. A launch reviewer also observed Arcade time challenges that online friends could try to beat. Treat this as an asynchronous score challenge, distinct from joining the same live race; the reviewer’s observation does not establish that every Arcade challenge or playlist works identically.

Online play is available across PC and consoles, but a console subscription may be required. Xbox currently states that console online multiplayer requires Game Pass Essential, Premium, or Ultimate. Subscription requirements can change, and the available source does not establish the current PlayStation requirement; check the game’s PlayStation Store listing for that platform before subscribing or troubleshooting access.
