On paper, the Stages SB200 fixes the SB20’s biggest practical complaint: size and weight. Stages says the new bike weighs 32.2 kg (71 lb), “almost half” the SB20, and adds a two-stage drive meant to keep the inertia of a heavy flywheel without the mass. Whether that adds up to a redemption is a question only ride testing can answer, and as of October 7, 2026, the only coverage we can point to is launch reporting. This piece lays out what is confirmed, what is a vendor claim, and what to check before you spend $2,399.
The short version
- Confirmed by launch reporting: specs, price and ship estimates as announced by Stages and reported by BikeRadar on October 5, 2026.
- Not yet established: ride feel, noise, power accuracy, reliability and long-term value. BikeRadar said it has an SB200 on test and that a review is forthcoming; no results existed at the time of writing. Anything that sounds like a verdict on those points is currently speculation.
- The honest framing: the SB200 is a credible redesign aimed at the SB20’s weaknesses. Whether it earns “redemption” depends on how well the lighter two-stage drive imitates real inertia.
What Stages announced
BikeRadar reported that the SB200 is Stages’ first smart bike in seven years and its second smart-bike trainer since the SB20 arrived in 2019. Stages says its design priorities were a high-inertia, freewheeling two-stage drive and a chassis that moves beneath the rider.

Weight and mobility
The bike is listed at 32.2 kg (71 lb) and has caster wheels. Stages global marketing director Matt Pacocha put it this way: “At 32.2kg (71lb), the SB200 is almost half the weight of the SB20 and comes with [caster] wheels, again for mobility.” That is a manufacturer statement, not an independent measurement or a test of how easy the bike is to roll around a real home.
Drive and inertia
Pacocha explained the trade-off: “On the SB20, we used a 55lb flywheel to create the inertia. It did a fine job but we wanted the SB200 to be more practical and mobile, which meant lighter.” The new two-stage drive is the mechanism meant to keep inertia high at lower weight. That is the central engineering bet, and the one that most needs real-world confirmation, since a lighter drivetrain can feel different when you sprint, coast or stand on a climb.

Brake and power ceiling
The reported electromagnetic brake is rated at 400 W at 40 rpm and more than 1,500 W at 12 rpm, with a stated maximum of 2,500 W. These are launch figures; a current manufacturer manual would be the place to confirm the exact test conditions. The low-cadence number matters most for steep virtual climbs.
Fit and adjustment
Rider height is listed as 4 ft 10 in (147 cm) to 6 ft 10 in (208 cm), with adjustable seatpost and stem height and fore-aft position. Phone, tablet and head-unit mounts are reported as included or built in, along with a small built-in display.

Apps and connectivity
The launch report lists Bluetooth and Wi-Fi support for major platforms including Zwift, Rouvy and MyWhoosh, plus a Stages app with up to 40 workouts. No detailed compatibility matrix was published with it, so do not assume every app supports every feature, such as ERG mode, simulation grade control or resistance levels, on day one.

SB200 versus SB20: what is actually comparable
Stages’ SB20 manual provides firm numbers for the older bike. They should not be assumed to carry over to the new one.
| Item | SB20 (Stages manual) | SB200 (launch report) |
|---|---|---|
| Weight | Not stated here; Stages says the SB200 is “almost half” of it | 32.2 kg (71 lb) |

| Maximum resistance | 2,200 W at 130 rpm | 2,500 W (conditions not stated) |
| Power accuracy | ±1.5% | Not stated |
| Wireless | 2.4 GHz ANT+ and Bluetooth | Bluetooth and Wi-Fi reported; ANT+ not stated |
| Rider height | 4 ft 10 in–6 ft 10 in (1.47–2.08 m) | 4 ft 10 in–6 ft 10 in (147–208 cm) |
| Maximum user weight | 300 lb (136 kg) | Not stated |
| Crank lengths | 165, 170, 172.5, 175 mm | Not stated |

The SB20’s documented app support covers the Stages Cycling app, Zwift, Wahoo SYSTM, TrainerRoad, Rouvy, FulGaz, Xert, Kinomap and Golden Cheetah, with varying support for power, cadence, ERG and simulation. If you use TrainerRoad, Xert or similar, confirm SB200 support directly, because the launch report names only Zwift, Rouvy and MyWhoosh. Also, if you rely on ANT+ head units or older devices, ask about ANT+ before buying, since the launch report mentions only Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

What “redemption” has to mean
The SB20 is not described in the launch coverage as a failure; Pacocha called its flywheel a “fine job”. The case for the SB200 is that it removes a weight and mobility penalty. Redemption would require it to do that without giving up what the SB20 offered. These are the tests that decide it.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Ride feel and inertia: does the two-stage drive feel convincing in accelerations, coasting and seated or standing climbing? Does the moving chassis feel natural, or does it add wobble under hard efforts?
- Noise: drive, brake and frame noise in an ordinary apartment or garage.
- Power and control: repeatability against a trusted reference, behavior at low and high cadence, and stability in ERG and simulation modes. The SB20’s ±1.5% claim is not an SB200 claim.
- Fit and sharing: how stable it is at the extremes of the height range, and how quickly two riders can switch.
- Apps: whether pairing, resistance control and ride recording each work on every platform you use.
- Mobility and usability: whether 71 lb and casters really make it easy to move, and whether the built-in display and mounts are useful.
- Value: warranty, returns, parts and support, weighed against rival smart bikes and against a regular bike plus smart trainer.
Who should wait, and who can reasonably consider it now
Reasons to wait for independent testing
- You are buying mainly for the feel of the ride; this is the least verifiable claim today.
- You need exact data accuracy for structured training or racing.
- You depend on a specific app or on ANT+ connectivity.
- You are in the UK or EU, where deliveries are estimated for November, so there is little cost to waiting for reviews.
Reasons to consider it now
- You have to move your bike frequently, and weight was the reason you passed on the SB20.
- You are tall or short enough that fit range matters; the reported range spans 4 ft 10 in to 6 ft 10 in.
- You want Zwift, Rouvy or MyWhoosh and are comfortable with a return policy as insurance.
What to confirm before ordering
- Ask Stages or the retailer for the current SB200 manual and read the accuracy, maximum rider weight and crank options.
- Check the compatibility of your exact app, including ERG and grade simulation.
- Confirm the return window and warranty in your region.
- Read independent reviews that include noise and power-accuracy measurements, including the review BikeRadar has said is forthcoming.
The Bottom Line
The SB200 looks like a thoughtful answer to the SB20’s size problem, but a redemption is earned on the road, not in a launch brief. Until independent tests confirm ride feel, noise and accuracy, treat it as promising and unproven.
