A pending stablecoin transfer has not finished; a failed transfer did not complete. Start by copying the transaction hash into the correct source- or destination-chain block explorer. If confirmations are increasing, congestion or processing delay is usually the reason to wait. If the explorer or service reports failure, read the exact error, correct the balance, fee, gas, nonce, expiry, network or connection problem, and submit a new transaction. A confirmed transfer sent to the wrong address or network is generally irreversible.
Pending and failed do not mean the same thing
Wallets, exchanges and bridge interfaces use status labels that describe different stages. Treating a pending transfer as failed can lead to unnecessary retries or duplicate sends; treating a failed transfer as merely delayed can waste time while the same problem continues.

Circle distinguishes a failed USDC Bridge transfer from a delayed one: a failed operation did not complete, while a delayed operation has started and is still processing. Circle tells users of delayed transfers, “Your funds are not lost. Most delayed transactions will complete automatically.” That reassurance applies to a delayed operation, not to a confirmed send to an incorrect address.

There is no single wait time for every chain, wallet, exchange or bridge. Confirmation speed changes with transaction volume, destination-chain congestion, fee conditions, node synchronization and the receiving service’s own crediting process. Coinbase’s troubleshooting guidance says to wait at least 30 minutes and notes that most transactions complete within that time. Use that as a practical checkpoint rather than a guarantee for every network or transfer type.

The explorer provides a better answer than the wallet’s spinner. A pending label with steadily increasing confirmations is different from a transaction that was never broadcast or has stopped because a provider rejected it. Check the hash first, then decide whether waiting is sensible.
Find the transaction hash and verify its stage
The transaction hash (also called a transaction ID) is the identifier that lets a block explorer show what the network received. Exchanges and bridges may display it only after broadcast; a locally signed transaction without a hash may never have reached the chain.
- Copy the hash. Open the transfer’s details in your wallet, exchange or bridge and copy the complete hash without changing any characters.
- Choose the correct explorer. Open a block explorer for the source chain when checking the send, or the destination-chain explorer when checking a bridge arrival. Searching the wrong chain can make a valid transaction appear missing.
- Read the status and confirmations. Look for pending, successful or failed status and note whether the confirmation count is increasing. A growing count is evidence that the network is processing the transaction.
- Check the recorded details. Compare the from address, recipient, token contract or asset, amount and network with your intended transfer. Confirm that the hash belongs to this attempt, not an earlier send.
- Record the error exactly. If the explorer, wallet or bridge supplies an error code or simulation message, save the full text before retrying. Support can act much faster when it receives the original code and hash.
If no hash exists, refresh the service, reconnect the wallet and check whether the signing step actually completed. A provider outage, lost connection or rejected submission can leave an interface showing an in-progress action without a broadcast transaction.
A practical decision flow
- Hash found and confirmations increasing: leave the transaction alone and check again later. Do not submit a second transfer merely because the interface remains pending.
- Hash found but no confirmation: inspect congestion, fee information, node or provider warnings and whether the transaction was accepted by the source chain. Follow the service’s replacement or retry process only if it reports that the original cannot proceed.
- Status is failed: read the exact error and correct the relevant balance, fee, gas, nonce, expiry, connection or contract-execution problem before creating a new transaction.
- Source chain succeeded but destination is still pending: check the bridge’s destination-stage status and allow processing time. A delayed bridge transfer may complete automatically.
- Chain shows success but the recipient has no credit: verify that the receiving service supports that network and token, then contact it with the hash, network, token, amount, destination address and account information.
- Confirmed send used the wrong address or network: stop retrying and do not promise a reversal. Recovery may be impossible; ask the receiving service or wallet owner whether it has a documented recovery process.
Why a transfer stays pending
Network congestion and confirmation delay
High transaction volume can slow inclusion and confirmations. A destination chain may be congested even when the source chain is operating normally. Gas prices can also rise, making a fee that was acceptable when signed less competitive. Open the hash in the relevant explorer and watch the confirmation count. If it is moving, waiting is safer than sending another transfer.

Insufficient confirmations
An exchange or bridge may keep its own status at pending until a required number of network confirmations has accumulated. The source-chain explorer can show success while the service is still waiting for its threshold. Check the service’s transfer details and the destination stage instead of assuming that a successful source transaction means the recipient has already credited the funds.
Node synchronization or provider interruption
A wallet depends on a blockchain node or provider to submit and read transactions. A node that has lost synchronization, a temporarily unavailable provider or a dropped internet connection can make a valid operation look stuck. Reconnect the wallet, refresh the interface and retry the submission later if the service confirms an interruption. Do not repeatedly sign transactions while the first attempt’s broadcast status is unknown.
Pending-asset spending or double-spend protection
Some services prevent an asset from being spent again while an earlier transaction is unresolved. Coinbase lists pending-asset spending and double-spending among causes of pending transactions. Wait for the original attempt to resolve or follow the service’s documented replacement procedure; creating another send from a different screen can create confusion rather than speed.
Why a stablecoin transfer fails
Not enough token or native gas balance
A USDC transfer requires the USDC being sent and enough of the chain’s native token to pay transaction fees. For example, a transfer on an Ethereum-compatible network may require ETH for gas in addition to USDC. Circle’s failure references include INSUFFICIENT_GAS_BALANCE and INSUFFICIENT_TOKEN_BALANCE. Fund the missing balance, confirm that the funds are on the same network as the transaction, and then create a new transfer.

Fee or gas-limit problems
A fee that is too low can be rejected or remain unprocessed. If execution consumes more gas than the transaction’s limit, it can fail with an out-of-gas condition. Circle documents GAS_PRICE_TOO_LOW and OUT_OF_GAS. Use the current fee guidance from the wallet or service and an adequate gas limit, then submit a new transaction rather than assuming the failed one will complete later.
Nonce errors
On chains that use account nonces, each transaction must use the next valid sequence number. A stale or already-used nonce can produce NONCE_TOO_LOW. Refresh the account state, use the latest nonce supplied by the wallet or service and create a new transaction. Avoid manually overriding the nonce unless you understand the account’s other pending transactions.
Expired transactions and block hashes
A transaction can become invalid after its validity window closes. Circle lists SOL_BLOCKHASH_EXPIRED, SIGNED_TRANSACTION_EXPIRED and TRANSACTION_EXPIRED. Start a fresh transaction after expiry; changing the recipient or amount on an expired request does not revive it.
Simulation or on-chain execution failure
Bridges and smart-contract services may simulate an operation before submitting it. A failed simulation prevents completion; an on-chain execution failure means the transaction reached the chain but the contract rejected or could not complete the requested action. Read the complete simulation or execution message, correct the stated condition and submit a new transaction. Repeated failures with the same conditions should be escalated instead of retried indefinitely.

Connection and service interruptions
A wallet disconnect, provider outage or bridge service interruption can interrupt signing, broadcasting or status updates. Refresh only after noting whether a hash exists, reconnect the wallet and check the service status shown in the transfer interface. If the service reports an outage, wait for it to clear before attempting another send.

Retrying is appropriate only after you know what failed and whether the original transaction can still execute. Use this preflight list:
- Recipient address matches the intended wallet, character for character.
- Source and destination networks are the ones supported by the receiving service.
- The asset is the expected stablecoin and the receiving wallet supports that token on that network.
- The account has enough stablecoin for the amount and enough native token for gas.
- The proposed fee and gas limit are adequate for current network conditions.
- The wallet is connected to the correct account and has refreshed its nonce or sequence.
- The prior hash is confirmed failed or the service explicitly says a new submission is required.
Never treat a different network’s address format as proof of compatibility. An address can look valid while the receiving service does not support that chain or token.

Account checks can also hold an exchange transfer. Coinbase advises completing any requested account verification while checking the transaction and recipient details.
Wrong address, wrong network or incompatible token
Before signing, verify the destination address, blockchain, token and wallet compatibility. After confirmation, the chain generally cannot cancel, reverse or edit the transfer. Circle states that confirmed transfers cannot be canceled, reversed or changed, and that a wrong address or network may make recovery impossible. Coinbase likewise warns that it cannot recover funds sent on the wrong network.
If the explorer shows success but the recipient has not credited the funds, first distinguish an unsupported network from a wrong address. An exchange may be able to review an unsupported deposit, but no recovery should be assumed. Supply the exact hash, network, token, amount, destination address and account information and follow the receiving service’s formal process. Do not send additional funds to “unlock” or “recover” the original transfer unless the service’s verified support channel documents that step.
When and how to contact support
Escalate when confirmations have stopped, the transfer remains delayed beyond the service’s stated processing window, a source success is not credited, or the same corrected transaction fails repeatedly. Contact the party that controls the stuck stage: the sending exchange for a withdrawal, the receiving exchange for a missing deposit, or the bridge for destination processing.

- Transaction hash and a link or name of the explorer where you checked it.
- Source and destination networks, token name, amount and transfer direction.
- Sending and receiving addresses, with sensitive keys and recovery phrases omitted.
- Timestamp, current status, confirmation count and the exact error code or message.
- Wallet, exchange or bridge name, account identifier requested by support, and whether any account check is pending.
- Screenshots only when they add context; redact passwords, seed phrases, private keys and unrelated personal data.
Support cannot change a blockchain confirmation, but it can explain a service-specific confirmation threshold, destination crediting delay or documented recovery path.
Prevent the next pending or failed transfer
- Confirm the network and token on both sides before entering the amount.
- Send a small test amount when the destination service or network is unfamiliar.
- Keep a separate native-token balance for gas instead of spending the entire balance on the stablecoin.
- Review the recipient address on the final confirmation screen; do not rely only on a copied label or contact name.
- Check the wallet’s fee, gas-limit and nonce information, especially during congestion.
- Save the hash immediately after broadcast and monitor it in the correct explorer.
- Use only the official support channel for the wallet, exchange or bridge, and never disclose a seed phrase or private key.
Bottom line
Use the transaction hash to separate a progressing delay from a genuine failure. Increasing confirmations call for patience; a failed status calls for an exact error diagnosis and a corrected new transaction. A confirmed transfer to the wrong address or network is not normally reversible, so address, network, token and gas checks belong before signing—not after the funds are gone.
