SQLyog.exe is the Windows executable for SQLyog, a graphical administration client for MySQL and MariaDB servers and databases. A genuine copy normally opens SQLyog’s connection and query interface; it is not the database server itself. The filename alone cannot prove that a particular file is safe, so verify its location, digital signature, hash and download source before allowing it to run.
What SQLyog.exe does
SQLyog is a desktop GUI for administering MySQL and MariaDB in physical, virtual and cloud environments. SQLyog.exe starts that Windows application. Through the interface you can register database connections, browse schemas and tables, run SQL, inspect results, manage users and perform other server-administration tasks supported by your edition and server version.

SQLyog.exe is a client, not a replacement for MySQL or MariaDB Server. The database engine can run on another computer, a virtual machine or a cloud host while SQLyog runs on your Windows PC. Closing SQLyog does not normally stop a remote database server.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe project README states that SQLyog has no dependency on the Microsoft .NET or Java runtime and does not use an ODBC or JDBC database-abstraction layer. That means a missing .NET or Java installation is not, by itself, a reason to install those runtimes when SQLyog will not start.
#1 Best Overall
Why you may see the process
- You launched SQLyog from the Start menu, a desktop shortcut or a saved project.
- An installer or updater is finishing an installation.
- A shortcut, recent-file action or scheduled workflow starts the program when you sign in.
- A different executable has been given the same name, which is why the file path and signature matter.
SQLyog.exe should not be confused with a Windows service hosting a database. If you only need a MySQL or MariaDB server, you do not need to keep the GUI running continuously.
Is SQLyog.exe safe?
The product documentation identifies SQLyog.exe as the program executable, but documentation cannot authenticate an individual file on your computer. A legitimate filename can be copied by unrelated software, and a legitimate installer can be damaged or tampered with. Treat safety as a local verification task.
Check the file path
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. - On the Details tab, locate
SQLyog.exe, right-click it and choose Open file location. - Record the complete path. A copy you intentionally installed or downloaded is easier to explain than one appearing unexpectedly in a temporary, system or randomly named directory.
A path under Downloads is not automatically malicious because installers often run there. Conversely, a familiar-looking folder does not prove authenticity. If more than one SQLyog.exe exists, inspect each copy and remove only the one you have identified as unwanted.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Check the digital signature
- Right-click the file in File Explorer and select Properties.
- Open Digital Signatures, select a signature if present, and choose Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and that the signer matches the publisher named by the download source you used.
The available documentation does not establish one universal publisher name or signature for every build. An absent or invalid signature is a warning to investigate, not conclusive proof of malware; compare the file with a fresh download from the official SQLyog source and scan it with your security software.
Compare a cryptographic hash
If the vendor publishes a SHA-256 (or other) checksum for the exact release, calculate your file’s value in PowerShell:
Get-FileHash "C:pathtoSQLyog.exe" -Algorithm SHA256
Copy the result exactly and compare it with the checksum for the same edition, architecture and release. A mismatch means the bytes are different; do not run the file until you have resolved why. The product pages cited for this article do not provide a universal hash, so do not treat an invented or third-party value as authoritative.

Review how it was obtained and what it does
- Prefer the Webyog/SQLyog Community downloads page or a download supplied by your organization, rather than a repackaged mirror.
- Check your antivirus or Microsoft Defender result and let the scanner quarantine a file it identifies.
- In Task Manager, note unusual child processes, persistent high CPU use or network activity when no database operation is running.
- If the file arrived unexpectedly, disconnect it from network access, preserve the path and hash, and ask your administrator or security team to examine it before deletion.
No single check is a guarantee. A valid signature can be stolen or applied to a compromised package, while an unsigned older utility can still be legitimate. Source, path, signature, hash and behavior should agree.

Choose the edition and architecture
The official downloads wiki lists SQLyog Community Edition 13.3.1 (64-bit) as of August 25, 2026, along with a SQLyog Job Agent for Linux and earlier 13.x and 12.x releases. Release listings can change, so check the page again immediately before downloading. Select the 64-bit Community installer when your Windows installation is 64-bit and you want the free edition.
The Community edition is free. The vendor also offers commercial Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate editions with a fully functional 14-day trial and a paid licensing path. Current prices and feature entitlements are changeable; read the vendor’s current pricing and license pages for the exact terms that apply to your organization.
Install on Windows
- Download the installer from the official SQLyog downloads page and save it locally.
- Before opening it, scan the file and inspect its signature. Keep the original filename so you can match it to the release listing.
- Run the installer, approve the Windows User Account Control prompt only if the publisher and source are expected, and follow the setup screens.
- Choose an installation folder you can identify later. Avoid replacing an existing installation until you have exported any saved connection details you need.
- Launch SQLyog from the Start menu, then create a connection by entering the server address, port, database credentials and any required TLS or SSH settings.
SQLyog does not require Microsoft .NET or Java according to the project README. If setup asks for an unrelated runtime, verify that you are running the authentic installer and that another bundled component—not SQLyog itself—is making the request.
Connecting to a MySQL or MariaDB server
- Open SQLyog and choose the option to create a new connection.
- Enter the hostname or IP address supplied by the database administrator. For a local server, this may be
localhostor127.0.0.1. - Enter the configured TCP port. MySQL commonly uses 3306, but installations can use another port.
- Provide a user name and password with only the privileges you need. Do not paste production credentials into screenshots or support forums.
- Enable the encryption, certificate, tunnel or SSH options required by the server policy.
- Test the connection, then save it only if the computer is adequately protected and other users cannot read the saved credentials.
A successful login proves that the network route and credentials work; it does not grant permissions that the server account does not have. SQLyog can display only databases and operations allowed by that account.
Common SQLyog.exe problems and manual fixes
Nothing happens when you double-click
- Open Task Manager and end a hung SQLyog.exe process, then try again.
- Restart Windows and launch the program once with Run as administrator to distinguish a permissions problem from a damaged installation. Do not use elevation as a permanent workaround unless your administrator requires it.
- Check Windows Security quarantine history and your organization’s application-control logs for a blocked file.
- Re-download the same release from the official source, compare its signature and hash, and run the installer again. Do not overwrite a suspicious copy before preserving its details for investigation.
The program crashes or freezes
- Close other database tools and retry with a new, empty connection profile.
- Disconnect removable drives and network shares that contain SQLyog project files, then test a local profile.
- Use Task Manager to see whether CPU, memory or disk use is saturated by another process.
- Install the current supported release after exporting connection information. A profile created by a newer build may not behave identically in an older build.
- Record the Windows version, SQLyog version, exact action that triggered the crash and any Event Viewer application-error entry before contacting support.
Connection test fails
- Verify the host name, port, user name and password with the database administrator.
- Confirm that the database server is running and listening on the intended interface, not only on its local loopback address.
- Check Windows Firewall, endpoint security and the server’s firewall for a rule allowing the required port.
- Test name resolution and reachability separately from authentication. A DNS or routing failure needs a network fix; an “access denied” response needs a database-permission fix.
- For remote or cloud servers, confirm that your current public IP, VPN route, TLS certificate and allow-list entry are still authorized.
Missing DLL or runtime messages
Do not download a random DLL from an unofficial site. Reinstall the verified SQLyog package, run Windows Update, and inspect the exact module named in the error. Because the README says SQLyog has no .NET or Java dependency, installing those runtimes is unlikely to repair a SQLyog-specific error unless another application requires them. If Windows reports corruption in a system component, use your organization’s approved Windows repair procedure and keep a backup before making changes.

SQLyog.exe uses network bandwidth or CPU
A query returning a large result, schema refresh or export can legitimately consume resources. Cancel the operation in SQLyog, close unused result tabs and check the server’s query activity. If high usage continues while SQLyog is idle, capture the process path, signature, command line and child processes, scan the file, and investigate third-party extensions or a counterfeit executable rather than assuming the behavior is normal.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Linux, Unix and macOS availability
Windows is the documented desktop platform. The README says SQLyog may also run on Linux and Unix through Wine, but compatibility depends on the Wine version, distribution, graphics stack and database-driver behavior; troubleshoot it as a compatibility layer rather than a native Linux build. The downloads listing separately names a SQLyog Job Agent for Linux, which is not the same thing as a full Linux desktop client.
The supplied documentation does not establish a native macOS edition. Running the Windows executable in a virtual machine or compatibility layer may be technically possible, but it is outside the documented desktop platform and can introduce licensing, display and networking issues.

How to remove SQLyog.exe
- Export or securely record connection settings that you are authorized to retain.
- Close SQLyog and any related process in Task Manager.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, search for SQLyog, select the entry and choose Uninstall.
- Restart Windows, then inspect the former installation folder for leftovers. Delete only files you have identified as belonging to SQLyog; preserve a suspicious copy for security analysis instead of erasing evidence.
- Remove obsolete desktop shortcuts and startup entries, and revoke saved database credentials according to your organization’s policy.
SQLyog.exe is normally just the executable that launches a database-management client. Verify the specific file before trusting or deleting it, use the official release listing for downloads, and match the edition and platform to your needs.
Quick Recap
As an optional shortcut after the manual checks, Outbyte PC Repair can address more than 100 common Windows issues where possible, including broken system elements, invalid redirects, shared DLL problems, settings that increase CPU, RAM or disk load, temporary and cache files, vulnerability checks and app-crash logging. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7 and offers a category-based free trial of at least two days before a paid subscription; it complements antivirus software, does not replace it, results vary, and no tool repairs every crash.
