That is a personal change of heart, not a claim that Spotify has just reached every smart TV or that its video catalog covers every song.
Why Spotify finally won me over on the TV
I had been relying on YouTube when I wanted to watch music videos. When Spotify arrived on VIDAA in early June 2026, I tried it on my television and found myself making playlists that stretched across decades. The screen changed the experience: music videos felt more at home in the living room than on my phone, where Spotify’s video experience had felt clunky to me.

That reaction is about how I like to listen and watch. It is not a test of competing services or evidence that every listener will prefer Spotify’s videos. But it explains the apology in the headline: I had overlooked a feature that became much more compelling once I could use it on the screen where I wanted to watch.
What Spotify’s music-video feature actually offers
Spotify describes music videos as a Premium feature. Its support page says the catalog contains thousands of videos across genres and lists mobile and tablet, desktop, web player, and TV as supported platforms. A supported track is still required; a song in Spotify’s catalog does not necessarily have a video.

In its December 9, 2025 announcement, Spotify said a listener could open a supported track on TV, desktop, iOS, or Android and switch from audio to video. Playback begins at the point where the song left off, and the listener can switch back to audio. Spotify described the catalog as limited while the feature was in beta at that time; that was a dated description, not a guarantee about the catalog’s current size.
Check availability on your TV, account, and market
Spotify’s support page says many televisions have a Spotify app and recommends searching the TV or set-top-box app store. Its general TV guidance also lists Google Chromecast, Apple AirPlay, and Now Smart Stick as ways to connect Spotify to a television. Those options do not establish that music videos work identically through every device or connection method.

For video, check the specific combination you plan to use: the TV or streaming device, its Spotify app, your account and plan, your country, and whether you are using the native app or casting. Spotify’s support materials confirm that music videos can be watched on TV, but do not promise feature parity across every TV platform and casting route.
Availability has expanded over time, but the published figures are snapshots, not a current country-by-country list. Spotify said in October 2024 that the beta had reached 97 markets—12 initial markets plus 85 additional ones. In December 2025, the company separately said the beta was available to all Premium users in the United States and Canada. Its materials do not establish a definitive live roster of eligible countries, so check whether the feature appears in your own account and market.

Spotify also announced that its personalized “Videos for You” playlist would be available from June 15, 2026, to Premium users in the United States and Canada and most markets where music videos were available. That announcement is useful context, but it does not prove that the playlist or video feature is available to every Premium subscriber everywhere.
How to try music videos on a television
- Check for Spotify on the TV: Open the app store on your television or set-top box and search for Spotify, as Spotify’s TV support guidance recommends.
- Open a supported track: Sign in and choose a song that offers a video option. The availability of the feature does not mean every track has a video.
- Switch to video: Spotify’s December 2025 instructions say to choose a supported track and switch from audio to video. The exact controls may differ by TV operating system and app version.
- Transfer playback if needed: Spotify’s support guidance describes using Spotify Connect from another device to transfer a session to a TV. Its December 2025 announcement also describes switching between audio and video. These instructions cover different parts of the experience, so the available controls may depend on your setup.
Prefer audio? Look for the video controls
Spotify announced on April 9, 2026, that family plan managers could control video for plan members, and that settings for other Premium, Basic, and free users would begin rolling out globally that month. The company said the video settings apply across mobile, desktop, web, and TV. If you want audio-only playback, look under Settings > Content and display. The setting’s visibility may vary by account as rollout timing differs, and Spotify says video ads may still appear.

If Spotify is missing or the TV app is not working
- App not listed: Search the TV or set-top-box app store. Spotify’s support page also names Chromecast, AirPlay, and Now Smart Stick as TV connection options, but check video support for the exact route you choose.
- App trouble: Spotify recommends checking the internet connection and for app or TV software updates, then restarting the app, television, or Wi-Fi router. Reinstalling the app is another suggested step.
- Still not working: Spotify directs users with persistent TV-app problems to the television manufacturer.
What Spotify’s engagement numbers do—and do not—say
Spotify reported that listeners who discovered a track and watched its video were 34% more likely to stream that song again the following week than listeners who discovered it without watching the video. It also reported that those viewers were 24% more likely to save or share the song in the following week. These are company-reported associations, not evidence that watching a video caused the later listening or sharing.

Spotify also cited a Burson survey in which more than 70% of 8,400 respondents across 19 markets said more video content would enhance their Spotify experience. The survey ran from August 27 to October 3, 2025; it measures respondents’ opinions, not feature usage or satisfaction after trying it.
