Sports Blog Design Ideas: 17 Sites to Inspire Your 2026 Redesign

Strong sports blog design makes the lead story easy to spot, helps readers find their sport or team, and gives scores, fixtures, video, and other media room when they serve the coverage. Colorlib’s 2026 inspiration roundup includes personal blogs alongside publisher sports sections and broader sports websites, so the examples below are identified by type rather than treated as 17 independent blogs. Colorlib frames its selection as inspiration: “Here are the best designed sports blogs for your inspiration.” Its comments are editorial observations, not results from a usability study or a live audit.

17 sports blog design examples to explore

Colorlib’s roundup spans individual sports coverage, specialist publications, newspaper sports sections, and large sports publishers. Use the patterns as prompts for your own editorial choices, not as proof that a particular layout performs better.

  1. Ryan Giggs

A personality-led sports site can put an athlete and their story at the center of the visual identity. Consider this approach when the publication has a clear individual voice or subject.

  2. USports

A sports publication can organize its front page around a broad mix of coverage. Study how its hierarchy accommodates multiple stories and sports without making the page feel like a single-team blog.

  3. Wilderness Today

Outdoor and adventure coverage can draw on expansive imagery and a strong sense of place. The design direction is useful when scenery and activity are integral to the subject.

  4. Texas Football

Colorlib describes a layout with a slider, latest-news sidebar, sticky menu, banner advertising, and e-magazine sales. It is a useful example of how editorial navigation and monetization can coexist on a specialist sports site; the presence of ads or sales does not establish revenue or conversion performance.

  5. Manchester football coverage

Team-focused coverage benefits from clear pathways to club news and related stories. Look at how a narrow editorial focus can be made easy to navigate without confusing it with a general football publication.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  6. Rugby Damp

Colorlib highlights access to live, played, and upcoming games alongside story listings, training material, and video. This is a sport-specific approach to consider when readers need event information as well as articles.

What to look for when choosing a design direction

Rather than choosing a site because it looks polished in a screenshot, assess how well its design supports the work your publication does and the tasks your readers arrive to complete.

  • Editorial hierarchy and reading comfort: Can readers distinguish the lead story, latest coverage, and secondary features? Are headlines and summaries easy to scan?
  • Navigation and findability: Are sport and team categories, search, menus, and archive paths clear? A sticky or off-canvas menu may be worth exploring, but judge it in context rather than assuming it is always helpful.
  • Sport-specific usefulness: If your readers need fixtures, scores, profiles, or event information, does the layout make those features easy to reach?
  • Media and visual storytelling: Do action photography, video, podcasts, and social links support the reporting, or compete with it?
  • Mobile task completion: Check on a phone whether readers can reach the lead story, navigate to a sport or team, and use any score or event features. The Colorlib descriptions do not independently test mobile behavior.
  • Monetization and editorial balance: Notice where ads, paid magazine offerings, or commerce appear and whether they interrupt reading. Their presence alone says nothing about revenue or conversion.

How to turn inspiration into a useful brief

  1. Name the reader’s first task. Decide whether the homepage should prioritize a breaking story, a team landing page, a fixture list, or a mix of those needs.
  2. Choose a hierarchy before a visual style. Sketch the lead story, latest coverage, categories, and any sport-specific information in the order readers should encounter them.
  3. Set a media rule. Decide when photography, video, or podcasts earn prominent space and how they relate to headlines and article links.
  4. Review monetization in context. Place ads or paid products where they are visible without obscuring the editorial path, then assess the actual reading experience rather than assuming the placement works.
  5. Test key paths on a phone. Ask someone to find a team, open the lead story, and locate an event detail. Observe where the structure slows them down before settling on the design.

The Webby Awards’ 2026 sports category covers sports-focused sites featuring original content about games and events, athletes, sports history and culture, statistics, and related subjects. Its 2026 listing names Lando Norris as both Webby Winner and People’s Voice Winner; it also lists FIFA World Cup 2026 NYNJ, NBA Represent, NHL Players’ Association, and The Players’ Tribune as nominees, and ESPN, NFL: No Guessing, Just Game, and The Ring Magazine as honorees. These are award listings, not a ranking of sports blogs or evidence of design performance. See the Webby Awards.

The Web Marketing Association’s sports website awards overview lists seven judging criteria: design, ease of use, copywriting, interactivity, use of technology, innovation, and content. That is the association’s rubric, not a universal standard or the method Colorlib used. See the Web Marketing Association.
