Spirit Airlines announced an orderly wind-down effective May 2, 2026, cancelled all flights, and told guests not to go to the airport. Because there are no operating Spirit flights, there is no onboard Wi-Fi or entertainment service a passenger can use now.
Older Spirit material describes a limited, aircraft-dependent service that let passengers connect their own phones, tablets, or computers to Wi-Fi and stream content. That information remains useful only for understanding what Spirit offered before the shutdown; it is not a current booking or connectivity option.

Spirit Wi-Fi entertainment: the current answer
The present-tense answer is definitive: Spirit has no active inflight entertainment service because Spirit flights have been cancelled. In its May 2, 2026 announcement, Spirit Aviation Holdings, Inc., the parent company of Spirit Airlines, LLC, said: “All Spirit flights have been cancelled, and Spirit Guests should not go to the airport.” The company’s wind-down guest guidance repeats that all Spirit flights were cancelled.
That operational fact supersedes older web pages, app screenshots, travel blogs, and help articles that describe connecting to Spirit Wi-Fi. Those pages may accurately describe a pre-shutdown product, but they cannot be used to plan a current Spirit journey. There is no current Spirit aircraft on which to open a Wi-Fi portal, stream a show, or use a voucher.

What Spirit offered before the wind-down
An October 2025 Spirit in-flight menu documented Wi-Fi on “Wi-Fi enabled planes.” It promoted streaming shows and movies on a passenger’s own device rather than describing a separate, built-in entertainment system. The wording matters: availability depended on the aircraft assigned to the flight, and the menu did not promise that every aircraft, route, or departure would have a connection.
Personal-device streaming, not a documented seatback library
The menu’s description is a connectivity model. A passenger used a phone, tablet, or computer, joined the aircraft’s Wi-Fi portal, and streamed content through that device. The document does not establish that Spirit installed a universal seatback-screen library or that every aircraft configuration had the same entertainment hardware. It is therefore more accurate to say that Spirit advertised Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft for personal-device streaming than to claim that every Spirit plane had seatback entertainment.
What the historical material does not establish
The October 2025 menu does not publish a price, speed, coverage percentage, guaranteed connection rate, supported route list, or aircraft-by-aircraft availability schedule. It also does not say that a connection would be available for the entire flight. Those omissions prevent a reliable comparison of performance or value, even for the period when the service operated.

The menu gave a three-step sequence for passengers on a Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft:
- Enable airplane mode. This disables the phone’s normal cellular connection while leaving Wi-Fi available for activation.
- Open SpiritWiFi.com. After joining the aircraft’s Wi-Fi network, the passenger went to the portal address shown in the menu.
- Choose a plan or enter a voucher. The portal then offered a plan-selection path or a field for a voucher code.
These instructions describe the former onboard workflow, not a live service. Spirit’s later wind-down guidance says normal customer service is no longer available in the usual way, so an old portal address, support form, or voucher should not be treated as evidence that a current connection can be purchased or activated.
What each step did—and did not—guarantee
Airplane mode was a device setting, not a promise that the aircraft had internet. Entering SpiritWiFi.com was a portal instruction, not proof that a connection had been established. Selecting a plan or entering a voucher addressed authorization, not aircraft coverage or performance. Keeping those distinctions separate prevents an old checklist from being mistaken for a service guarantee.
The menu also did not say whether a plan covered one device, multiple devices, a fixed time period, or an entire flight. It gave no published speed tier and no promise that streaming quality would remain constant. Those details should not be reconstructed from assumptions about airline Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi access versus entertainment content
“Wi-Fi entertainment” can mean two different things. The first is an internet connection that lets a traveler use a personal device. The second is a curated entertainment library supplied by the airline, often through seatback screens or a dedicated onboard portal. Spirit’s dated menu supports the first description: it referred to streaming favorite shows and movies on a passenger’s own device. It does not provide evidence for a universal seatback catalog.

| Question | What the dated Spirit material supports |
|---|---|
| Could passengers stream shows or movies? | Yes, on a Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft, using a personal device. |
| Was Wi-Fi on every Spirit aircraft? | No guarantee is stated; the menu made availability conditional on the aircraft being Wi-Fi-enabled. |

| Were price and speed published in the menu? | The menu does not state a price or connection speed. |

Who supplied the former inflight internet service?
Spirit’s inflight-internet disclosure identified Thales as the third-party provider of the historical service. The disclosure said that Thales’s terms of service and privacy policy applied when customers accessed the internet product. This means the connectivity experience involved a provider relationship separate from Spirit’s own carriage contract and does not imply that Spirit operated an independent, always-available network.
The disclosure was updated October 23, 2024. Date-sensitive language is important here: it documents how the service was structured before the shutdown, not a currently purchasable Thales or Spirit product on a Spirit aircraft.
Why the provider distinction matters
A passenger who once accepted a Wi-Fi portal’s terms was dealing with two layers of rules: Spirit’s travel and device policies, and Thales’s internet-service terms and privacy policy. The provider disclosure does not publish a performance guarantee, coverage map, or refund promise. It simply identifies who supplied the internet product and which third-party terms applied to its use.
Historical access categories and vouchers
Spirit’s former support guidance described more than one way a traveler might receive Wi-Fi access:
Access associated with Spirit First
The historical support article said Wi-Fi included with Spirit First purchases was subject to availability and was not eligible for a refund. That wording did not turn Wi-Fi into a guaranteed service on every aircraft; the availability condition remained part of the offer.
Free Spirit Gold access
The same guidance said Wi-Fi included for Free Spirit Gold members was subject to availability and not eligible for a refund. These statements belong to the earlier loyalty and product program and should not be read as a current benefit while Spirit has no operating flights.
Separately purchased access
For Wi-Fi bought separately, the old support flow allowed a customer to submit a refund request with receipt details and, where applicable, a voucher code. That was the former process. Spirit’s wind-down guidance supersedes it for current claims, so a traveler with a historical purchase should follow the instructions on the current wind-down information rather than assume the old Wi-Fi form is staffed or processing requests normally.
How to document an old purchase
Keep the receipt, booking information, date of travel, and any voucher code together. Those details can help identify whether the charge was a separately purchased session or an included benefit. Do not discard confirmation emails simply because the flight date has passed; they may be the only record of the transaction. The former policy distinguishes refund treatment by purchase type, but it does not promise that every claim will be approved.

Device, audio, and cellular rules in the former contract
Spirit’s December 11, 2025 contract of carriage contained rules for portable electronics. They are useful for interpreting the old service, but they were Spirit-specific policies at that date and are not a promise of a future Spirit flight.
- Passengers using a portable device with audible sound had to use a headset or earphones.
- Cellular network service had to be disabled in airplane mode during the periods specified by the contract.
- Passengers had to follow crew directions about device use.
- On flights outside U.S. airspace, portable electronic devices could not be used during taxi, takeoff, and landing. They could be used above 10,000 feet after a flight-attendant announcement.
These rules concern how a device could be used; they did not guarantee Wi-Fi availability, permit unrestricted cellular service, or create an onboard entertainment catalog. They also should not be generalized to another airline’s procedures.
Practical implications for a personal device
The historical setup placed responsibility for playback on the traveler. A passenger needed a compatible phone, tablet, or computer, plus headphones or earphones for audible content. Because the menu did not guarantee connectivity for an entire flight, downloading media in advance would have been a sensible general travel precaution, but Spirit’s documents do not prescribe a particular app, file format, device model, battery capacity, or accessory.
Why older pages can be misleading
Search results often preserve a mixture of dates. A page written when Spirit was selling connectivity can remain indexed after the airline’s operation has ended. Three checks help separate historical information from a current travel instruction:
- Check the document date. The menu is dated October 2025, the internet disclosure was updated October 23, 2024, and the device rules come from the December 11, 2025 contract.
- Look for operational status. The May 2, 2026 wind-down announcement and guest guidance state that all flights were cancelled.
- Distinguish instructions from availability. A portal address or voucher procedure explains how the former product worked; it does not show that a flight, aircraft, or support channel is operating now.
When sources conflict, the later operational notice controls the present-tense question. Historical menu details should be labeled as historical rather than silently carried forward.
What a former Spirit passenger should do about Wi-Fi charges
A traveler who is trying to resolve an old Wi-Fi purchase should gather the information that the former support article requested, including the receipt details and any voucher code tied to a separately purchased session. However, Spirit’s later wind-down guidance says it cannot provide normal customer service. The current wind-down information is therefore the appropriate authority for where and how an affected guest should submit a claim.
Do not assume that an included benefit can be converted into cash. The historical policy specifically described Spirit First and Free Spirit Gold Wi-Fi as subject to availability and not eligible for a refund. Separately purchased Wi-Fi had a refund-request route, but the existence of that old route is not an assurance that it remains active after the wind-down.

A simple historical refund checklist
- Identify whether the charge was bundled with Spirit First, attached to Free Spirit Gold status, or purchased separately.
- Locate the original receipt or transaction confirmation.
- Record the booking reference, travel date, and voucher code if one was used.
- Use only the current wind-down instructions for submission or status questions.
- Do not send payment information to an unverified page that merely reproduces the old Spirit Wi-Fi branding.
This checklist organizes existing records; it does not create a new refund entitlement or guarantee a response.

Can a traveler still use a Spirit voucher or SpiritWiFi.com?
The old menu’s voucher instruction was tied to an operating flight and a Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft. With all Spirit flights cancelled, there is no current onboard session in which to redeem that instruction. A voucher holder should use the current wind-down guidance for any claim or resolution and retain the voucher code, receipt, and booking information.
The same caution applies to SpiritWiFi.com. The address appeared in the historical connection sequence, but an address preserved in an old document is not proof of a live portal, a staffed support desk, or a purchasable plan.
What this means for planning entertainment on a trip
There is no Spirit-specific device or accessory that solves a current travel need, because there is no operating Spirit service to connect to. The historical product also did not require a special model of phone, tablet, or headphone in the documents cited. The practical lesson from the former setup is general: personal-device streaming depended on the aircraft’s Wi-Fi capability and on the passenger having a charged, compatible device with suitable audio equipment.

Questions to ask when comparing another carrier
- Is connectivity offered on the specific aircraft or only on selected planes?
- Does the airline provide internet access, an entertainment library, or both?
- Can passengers stream from their own devices, and are headphones required?
- Are prices, speeds, time limits, and refund rules published for the current service?
- What happens if the assigned aircraft changes?
Those questions are useful because they mirror the gaps in Spirit’s historical menu without assuming that another carrier uses the same system.

Bottom line for the question “Does Spirit have Wi-Fi entertainment?”
Spirit once described Wi-Fi on Wi-Fi-enabled aircraft for streaming shows and movies on passengers’ own devices. The documentation did not promise universal aircraft coverage, a particular speed, a price, or a built-in seatback library. Those details are historical. Since Spirit cancelled all flights effective May 2, 2026, no current Spirit passenger can use Spirit Wi-Fi entertainment, redeem an onboard Wi-Fi plan, or connect through the former portal.
Frequently Asked Questions

Did every Spirit plane have Wi-Fi?
The menu did not say that. It made access conditional on the aircraft being Wi-Fi-enabled and provided no fleet-wide or route-by-route guarantee.
Did Spirit provide seatback screens or a universal entertainment library?
The cited menu documents personal-device streaming through Wi-Fi. It does not establish a universal seatback-screen library or identical entertainment hardware across the fleet.
How did the former Spirit Wi-Fi login work?
Passengers were instructed to enable airplane mode, visit SpiritWiFi.com, and then choose a plan or enter a voucher. Those are historical instructions, not a live connection method.
