Spectrum vs. Verizon 5G Home Internet: Speed, Price, and Availability Compared

There is no universal winner. Spectrum’s wired service advertises higher maximum speeds, while Verizon 5G Home is fixed wireless whose results depend on cellular conditions at your address. The right choice comes from comparing both providers at the same street address, then checking the full checkout price, post-promotion rate, included equipment, Wi-Fi charges, and any service guarantees.

At a glance: Spectrum or Verizon 5G Home?

Factor Spectrum Verizon 5G Home
Delivery method Fiber-powered network with coaxial connection to the premises Fixed wireless over Verizon’s cellular network
Advertised download tiers 100 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1,000 Mbps (1 Gig), and 2,000 Mbps (2 Gig) Up to 100 Mbps (5G Home), 150 Mbps (5G Home Plus), and 300 Mbps (5G Home Ultimate)
Advertised pricing Internet 100: $30 per month in year one; 500: $40; 1 Gig: $60; 2 Gig: $80. Offers and availability vary by address. Starts at $35 per month with Auto Pay and a Verizon mobile phone plan; the live selector shows plan- and discount-dependent prices.
Equipment Modem included Router included
Wi-Fi charges Advanced WiFi is $10 per month on Internet 100 and 500, included with 1 Gig; 2 Gig includes Invincible WiFi. Router inclusion is stated; a separate Wi-Fi charge is not stated in the cited plan details.
Data caps and contracts No data caps or contracts listed Not stated in the cited plan details
Price guarantees Not stated as a fixed multi-year guarantee Base-rate guarantee listed for 3 years on 5G Home, 4 years on Plus, and 5 years on Ultimate, subject to eligibility and exclusions.
Availability Address-specific; 2 Gig is limited to select areas Address-specific; 5G Home is not available everywhere Verizon 5G cellular service exists

The table compares provider claims, not an assurance of the speed or bill at a particular home. Upload speeds for the named plans are not established in the available plan details, so you should request that figure during checkout if uploads matter to you.

What Spectrum offers

Four advertised speed levels

Spectrum’s plan comparison lists four download tiers: Internet 100, Internet 500, Internet 1 Gig, and Internet 2 Gig. The 2 Gig option is offered only in select areas. Spectrum describes the network as fiber-powered, with coaxial connections serving premises. That is a wired last-mile connection, so the advertised maximum is not subject to the same radio interference and cell congestion variables as a fixed-wireless connection, although in-home Wi-Fi and local network conditions still affect devices.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Equipment and Wi-Fi pricing

A modem is included. The practical monthly total can change if you need Spectrum’s managed Wi-Fi: Advanced WiFi is listed at $10 per month on the two lower tiers, included with 1 Gig, while the 2 Gig tier includes Invincible WiFi. Compare the tier price plus any Wi-Fi line item rather than comparing headline internet prices alone.

Contract and data terms

The plan comparison lists no data caps and no contracts. The $30 price for Internet 100 is explicitly described as applying in year one; do not assume that introductory amount is the continuing standard rate. Ask for the regular price after the stated offer period before signing up.

How much is Spectrum Internet a month?

Spectrum’s advertised comparison shows Internet 100 at $30 per month in year one, Internet 500 at $40, Internet 1 Gig at $60, and Internet 2 Gig at $80. These are advertised offers, not a guaranteed quote for every address. The 2 Gig tier also has a select-area restriction.

When you enter your address, record the exact tier name, download speed, monthly charge, duration of any introductory pricing, and the standard rate that follows. Include Advanced WiFi when it appears on the checkout screen. A lower headline tier can become less attractive if the household needs additional Wi-Fi coverage or if the post-promotion rate is substantially higher.

What Verizon 5G Home offers

Three fixed-wireless tiers

Verizon lists 5G Home at up to 100 Mbps, 5G Home Plus at up to 150 Mbps, and 5G Home Ultimate at up to 300 Mbps. “Up to” is important: Verizon says cellular-network factors can change the speed a household receives. Signal conditions, network load, and the placement of the included gateway can all affect the result, so the tier maximum should be treated as a provider claim rather than a household guarantee.

Price depends on discounts and eligibility

Verizon displays a starting price of $35 per month when Auto Pay and a Verizon mobile phone plan apply. The live plan selector uses plan- and discount-dependent pricing, and Verizon says both price and availability depend on the service address. If you do not have an eligible mobile plan, obtain the no-bundle price before comparing it with Spectrum.

Included router and rate guarantees

A router is included. Verizon’s plan information lists base-rate guarantees of three years for 5G Home, four years for Plus, and five years for Ultimate, with eligibility requirements and exclusions. A guarantee period is not the same as a permanent price lock: verify which base rate is protected, which discounts are temporary, and what charges are excluded.

Where is Verizon 5G Home Internet available?

Neither provider can be judged nationwide for a particular home. Spectrum requires a street-address check to display local plans. Verizon also requires an address check and states that 5G Home is not available everywhere its 5G mobile service is present. A phone showing a strong 5G signal therefore does not establish that the fixed-wireless home product can be ordered.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Availability can differ between neighboring streets because wired network construction and wireless capacity are location-specific. Run both checks for the exact service address, including an apartment or unit number where applicable, and save the results on the same day.

How the technologies affect real-world performance

Spectrum’s wired connection

Spectrum describes a fiber-powered network with coaxial connections to premises. A wired connection generally offers a more consistent path than a shared radio link, but the plan maximum still does not describe every device’s experience. Wi-Fi generation, router placement, internal wiring, simultaneous users, and the destination server can reduce an individual speed test.

Verizon’s cellular connection

Verizon 5G Home uses the cellular network. Verizon explicitly warns that speeds vary because of factors affecting cellular networks. The gateway’s indoor location, building materials, distance from serving equipment, local congestion, and interference can all matter. Two homes on the same plan can therefore see different results, and one address can perform differently at different times of day.

Corporate comparison claims

Charter Communications’ first-quarter 2026 investor presentation compares its offers with fixed-wireless competitors at a 1 Gbps level. It identifies wireless interference and reliability, along with compatibility with virtual multichannel video providers, as limitations in its comparison. Those statements are Charter’s corporate presentation, not independent testing, and its displayed 1 Gbps prices should not replace a current address-specific quote.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Download speed is not upload speed

The named plan pages establish download claims, but they do not provide a directly comparable upload figure for these plans in the available details. If you work with large files, publish video, back up to the cloud, livestream, or host services, ask each provider for the upload speed and whether it is a guaranteed minimum, a typical result, or an advertised maximum.

  • Wide Device Compatibility Works with PCs, smart TVs, smartphones, gaming consoles, and smart home devices

Do not infer upload performance from a plan’s download label. A 1 Gig download tier and a 300 Mbps fixed-wireless tier are not complete descriptions of two-way performance.

What the advertised prices mean in practice

The Spectrum figures make the Wi-Fi line item easy to overlook. If Advanced WiFi is required, the advertised Internet 100 total becomes $40 per month before taxes or other charges, and Internet 500 becomes $50. Internet 1 Gig remains listed at $60 because Wi-Fi is included, while Internet 2 Gig is listed at $80 with Invincible WiFi included. Those calculations use the published offer amounts; your address-specific checkout screen controls the actual bill.

Verizon’s $35 figure is conditional rather than a universal standalone rate. It assumes Auto Pay and an eligible Verizon mobile phone plan, and the selector can show different amounts by tier and discount. A fair comparison therefore has at least two Verizon columns: the price with the mobile relationship you already have, and the price without it if you would need to add or change wireless service. Do not count a discount as savings if obtaining it would cost more elsewhere.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Also separate a base-rate guarantee from promotional credits. Verizon lists three-, four-, and five-year guarantees by tier, but eligibility and exclusions apply. Ask whether the guarantee covers the entire monthly bill or only a defined base rate. For Spectrum, ask when the year-one Internet 100 price ends and what regular rate will appear afterward. Save the online order summary so you can compare the first bill with the quote.

Matching tiers to household use

Internet 100 may be adequate for a smaller household with ordinary browsing, streaming, and occasional video calls, but the advertised number alone cannot account for every simultaneous device. Internet 500 provides more download headroom for a busier home, while 1 Gig and 2 Gig are aimed at addresses and households that can use substantially more capacity. Verizon’s 100, 150, and 300 Mbps ceilings can serve many routine activities, but the available capacity may fluctuate with cellular conditions.

Think in terms of concurrency rather than a single speed test. List the times when video meetings, game downloads, television streaming, security-camera uploads, cloud backups, and large work transfers overlap. Then compare both the advertised download ceiling and the requested upload figure. A faster download plan does not solve an upload bottleneck, and a high tier is wasted if the home’s Wi-Fi equipment or placement cannot distribute it.

Charter reported approximately 850 GB of average monthly household data usage for the first quarter of 2026. That is a company-reported figure, not a market-wide benchmark or a cap, but it illustrates why households should consider total usage and simultaneous demand instead of choosing only by the lowest advertised price.

Questions to ask before ordering

  • What is the exact recurring price after every introductory credit ends?
  • Does the quote require Auto Pay, a mobile line, paperless billing, or another eligibility condition?
  • Which modem, router, or gateway is included, and is managed Wi-Fi optional or bundled?
  • What upload speed is advertised or typical, and is it guaranteed?
  • For Verizon, where can the gateway be placed for the strongest indoor signal, and can placement be changed if performance is poor?
  • For Spectrum, is the requested tier—including 2 Gig—actually serviceable at this unit?
  • Are contracts, data limits, installation charges, taxes, or equipment fees shown separately in the final order summary?
  • What exactly does a Verizon base-rate guarantee protect, and which exclusions apply?

How to compare the two offers at your address

  1. Check Spectrum first. Enter the complete street address and note every available tier, the promotional period, the regular price afterward, modem status, and any Advanced WiFi or other equipment charge.
  2. Check Verizon next. Use the same address and record which 5G Home tier is eligible, the price with and without any mobile-plan discount, Auto Pay requirements, the included router, and the applicable base-rate guarantee.
  3. Put both quotes on one worksheet. Use the same billing assumptions and date. Separate one-time charges from recurring monthly charges and separate temporary discounts from standard pricing.
  4. Request missing upload information. Ask for upload speed, expected installation method, equipment placement options, and any usage or service restrictions that are not shown in the online selector.
  5. Evaluate your household load. List simultaneous video calls, gaming, 4K streaming, cloud backups, security cameras, and work uploads. A larger download number is useful only if the connection meets the activities that matter to you.
  6. Confirm the cancellation and installation terms. Keep the order summary and guarantee language. If the quote changes at checkout, compare the revised total rather than the earlier advertisement.

Which service fits common household situations?

Choose Spectrum when consistent wired performance is the priority

  • Your address qualifies for the tier you need, especially if you require more than 300 Mbps of advertised download capacity.
  • Several people upload, download, stream, or attend video meetings simultaneously.
  • You want a listed no-data-cap and no-contract plan.
  • You prefer a modem-based wired service and can account for any separate Wi-Fi charge.

Choose Verizon 5G Home when wireless access or a rate guarantee matters

  • Spectrum is unavailable, installation of a wired line is impractical, or you specifically want a fixed-wireless connection.
  • Your address qualifies for a Verizon tier and the observed or expected cellular conditions are suitable.
  • You can use the Auto Pay and eligible mobile-plan discount that produces the displayed starting price.
  • The listed three-, four-, or five-year base-rate guarantee is more valuable to you than a potentially higher wired speed.

Pause before choosing either

  • The checkout quote leaves the post-promotion price unclear.
  • The provider cannot state an upload speed that meets your work or backup needs.
  • Verizon’s address check passes but the gateway location has weak indoor signal.
  • Spectrum’s lower tier appears inexpensive until Advanced WiFi is added.

Common comparison mistakes

Comparing a promotional price with a standard price

A year-one amount or a mobile-bundle starting price is not the same as the ongoing bill. Write down when each discount ends and what the provider says the standard rate will be.

Assuming maximum speeds are typical speeds

“Up to” figures describe the top of a tier. Verizon specifically attributes variation to cellular conditions; Spectrum’s wired architecture does not make every device achieve the plan maximum. Test with a wired device where possible and account for Wi-Fi limitations.

Ignoring equipment costs

Both providers include core equipment, but the included device is different: Spectrum lists a modem, while Verizon lists a router. Spectrum’s Wi-Fi add-on can alter the monthly total. Confirm whether the supplied gateway provides the coverage your home needs before budgeting for extra hardware.

Using national availability assumptions

Serviceability is determined at the address level. Verizon’s mobile 5G coverage map cannot substitute for a 5G Home eligibility result, and Spectrum’s advertised 2 Gig tier is not offered in every market.

Treating a corporate presentation as independent testing

Charter’s comparison and its approximately 850 GB average monthly household data-usage figure reported for the first quarter of 2026 are company-reported context, not an independently measured market-wide benchmark. Use them to understand the company’s position, not to predict your home’s speed or data use.

A practical decision rule

After both address checks, select the offer that satisfies four conditions simultaneously: the required download and upload performance, a monthly total you can afford after promotions, equipment and Wi-Fi suitable for the home, and availability with acceptable terms. If both pass, favor the service whose performance risk you understand better: Spectrum’s principal uncertainty is the address-specific offer and in-home network, while Verizon adds cellular signal and congestion variability. If neither quote supplies the upload or post-promotion information you need, do not declare a winner until the provider answers those questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is Spectrum Internet a month?

Spectrum’s advertised plans list Internet 100 at $30 per month in year one, Internet 500 at $40, Internet 1 Gig at $60, and Internet 2 Gig at $80. Advanced WiFi adds $10 per month to Internet 100 and 500; Wi-Fi is included with 1 Gig and 2 Gig. Your address-specific quote and post-promotion rate control the actual bill.

How fast is Verizon 5G Home Internet?

Verizon lists up to 100 Mbps for 5G Home, 150 Mbps for 5G Home Plus, and 300 Mbps for 5G Home Ultimate. These are maximum download claims. Verizon says cellular-network conditions can change the speed a household receives, and comparable upload figures are not stated in the plan details.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Where is Verizon 5G Home Internet available?

Availability is checked by exact street address. Verizon says 5G Home is not available everywhere its 5G mobile service is present, so a strong phone signal or a nationwide coverage map does not confirm eligibility. Spectrum also requires an address check.

Which is faster, Spectrum or Verizon 5G Home?

Spectrum advertises higher maximum download tiers, reaching 1 Gig and 2 Gig in select areas, while Verizon lists up to 300 Mbps. That does not guarantee Spectrum will perform better at every home: Verizon’s result depends on cellular conditions, and both services are affected by in-home networking.

Does Verizon’s $35 price apply to everyone?

No. Verizon displays $35 per month with Auto Pay and an eligible Verizon mobile phone plan. The live selector shows plan- and discount-dependent prices, so request the quote both with the discount you qualify for and without it if you would need to change mobile service.

Do these plans have data caps or contracts?

Spectrum’s plan comparison lists no data caps and no contracts. The cited Verizon plan details do not establish equivalent cap or contract terms, so ask Verizon to state those conditions in the order summary before signing up.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Spectrum is the stronger fit when your address supports its wired tiers and you value higher advertised speeds, no listed data cap, and no contract. Verizon 5G Home can make more sense where wired service is unavailable or its multi-year base-rate guarantee and mobile discount outweigh the variability of a cellular connection. Check both providers at the same address and compare the complete post-promotion bill before deciding.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
