SpaceX is inviting satellite operators to share orbital ephemerides and maneuver information through its free Space Safety platform. The service uses Stargaze, SpaceX’s space-situational-awareness system, to screen submitted trajectories against operator data and Stargaze optical observations, returning conjunction analysis in as little as a minute according to SpaceX’s current service description.
What SpaceX announced
The platform is an operator-only service for participating spacecraft operators, not a general public tracking app. An operator can upload a definitive trajectory, import ephemerides from another system or submit a hypothetical trajectory for a one-off maneuver check. The platform then produces conjunction results and supporting trajectory information.

Starlink’s January 29, 2026 safety update said Stargaze conjunction data would be made available to the broader satellite-operator community at no charge through SpaceX’s space-traffic-management platform. Access still depends on operator onboarding and participation.
How Stargaze screening works
- Submit a trajectory. The operator provides a current ephemeris or a hypothetical path for a planned maneuver.
- Run the screening. Space Safety compares the trajectory with data submitted by operators and observations from Stargaze’s optical-sensor network.
- Review the result. Conjunction findings are designed to return rapidly; SpaceX says results can come back within one minute on its current service page.
- Coordinate action. Operators can inspect trajectory metadata, download trajectories in multiple reference frames and use conjunction data messages (CDMs) when coordinating a response.
- Keep sharing current data. Operators can contact SpaceX’s onboarding team to join and contribute their own ephemerides and maneuver information.
What data Stargaze adds
| Data or function | Role in the workflow |
|---|---|
| Operator-submitted ephemerides | Provide each spacecraft’s planned or current position and velocity for screening. |
| Covariance and uncertainty information | Shows how uncertain the reported state is, allowing more realistic collision-risk calculations. |
| Stargaze optical observations | Add independently collected observations to the shared tracking picture. Stargaze-derived trajectories are identified in the documentation with the spacex_optical state source. |
| Hypothetical trajectories | Support one-off checks of a proposed maneuver before it is executed. |
| Conjunction outputs and CDMs | Give operators results and a standard basis for coordination with other spacecraft teams. |
Why reciprocal sharing matters
Collision screening is only as useful as the state information behind it. A recent ephemeris with realistic uncertainty and planned-maneuver details helps another operator distinguish a genuine close approach from an apparent one caused by stale or incomplete data. The same contribution can improve screening for many spacecraft, not just the vehicle that supplied it.

Designed by SpaceX, the Starlink Mini Kit provides dependable connectivity without wired infrastructure, making it ideal for travel, camping, work, off-grid cabins, RV setups, and locations with no traditional broadband options.
- COMPACT AND PORTABLE DESIGN: The Starlink Mini is small enough to carry in a backpack yet powerful enough for daily use. Its portable, all-in-one design includes an integrated Wi-Fi router, DC power input, and rugged housing suitable for on-the-go applications. Whether at a campsite, construction site, or temporary location, Starlink Mini offers quick deployment and reliable performance.
- EASY TWO-STEP SETUP: Get online in minutes—simply plug in the Mini, point it at the sky, and connect. The kit includes everything needed for installation, including a kickstand, pipe adapter, power cable, and power supply. Use the Starlink app to find a clear sky view, check obstructions, explore mounting options, and manage your Starlink account and hardware settings.
- BUILT-IN ROUTER WITH WI-FI 5: The Starlink Mini includes an integrated dual-band Wi-Fi 5 router for strong wireless coverage and stable speeds. A built-in ethernet port provides wired connectivity for routers, mesh systems, gaming devices, or network hardware. Average power consumption of 25–40 watts supports efficient operation in off-grid or mobile power setups.
SpaceX says it publishes propagated ephemerides and covariance data on Space-Track.org and encourages other operators to share comparable information there or through Space Safety. In the company’s words, it is “striving to be the world’s most open and transparent satellite operator” and wants operators to share orbital data while keeping governments and the public informed about operations.
How often Starlink supplies its own ephemerides
The Space Safety documentation says Starlink uploads ephemerides for every satellite approximately every 60 minutes, with a seven-day prediction horizon. That cadence and horizon are documented operating practices rather than a permanent guarantee; the documentation notes that operational changes can affect them.

What Stargaze can see
SpaceX’s current Space Safety service page attributes two headline figures to its network: 30,000 optical sensors and tracking of 50% of objects with perigees below 600 kilometers. These are SpaceX-published figures accessed in 2026, not independently audited statistics. The altitude statement also describes a coverage slice, not a claim that Stargaze tracks half of every object in orbit.
Is Stargaze a replacement for Space-Track?
No. The documented workflow presents Stargaze as an additional source of observations and rapid screening, while Space-Track.org remains a place where SpaceX says it shares propagated ephemerides and covariance data. Operators still have to maintain their own flight-dynamics processes, provide high-quality states, assess uncertainty and coordinate any maneuver. Stargaze does not remove those responsibilities or guarantee that every conjunction will be resolved automatically.

Who can use the platform?
Space Safety is intended for satellite operators and participating spacecraft teams. The available documentation describes onboarding through SpaceX rather than an unrestricted public sign-up. Operators considering access should be prepared to identify their spacecraft, explain the data they can contribute and establish an internal process for reviewing conjunction results and CDMs.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What operators should verify before relying on it
- Confirm current onboarding terms and eligibility with SpaceX.
- Check which ephemeris formats, reference frames and export options your flight-dynamics system supports.
- Send current covariance and maneuver information, not only nominal position and velocity.
- Define who reviews rapid screening results and who has authority to coordinate a maneuver.
- Retain an independent conjunction-assessment process for cases where data are incomplete, stale or outside Stargaze’s documented coverage.
The service’s availability, sensor count, onboarding process and technical behavior can change. SpaceX’s published figures describe its own system; no independent performance study or external benchmark was identified for the platform.
