SpaceX shares rose almost 8% on Monday, October 5, 2026, reaching their highest level since mid-June and reportedly pushing Elon Musk’s estimated net worth back above $1 trillion. Those October figures come from a secondary report, and neither an exact closing price nor a timestamped wealth tally was independently established. The milestone refers to an estimate of assets—not $1 trillion in cash.
What happened to SpaceX stock?
PrimeXBT reported on October 5 that SpaceX shares gained almost 8% and reached their highest level since mid-June. The report did not establish an exact closing price or identify a verified exchange price series, so the percentage and comparison should be understood as figures attributed to that coverage, not as independently confirmed market data. Why did SpaceX stock go up?
The available October coverage establishes the reported share-price move, but does not provide enough verified detail to identify a specific cause. A price increase by itself does not demonstrate a change in SpaceX’s operating performance or establish what the company is worth. For dated context only, the Associated Press reported that SpaceX had recorded an $8.7 billion loss from the start of 2025 through March 31, 2026. That historical figure is not an October financial update. Associated Press coverage

It means the reported October share level was the highest since mid-June; it does not mean the stock reached a new all-time high. The June comparison is significant because SpaceX had just begun public trading. On June 12, its first day of public trading, shares rose about 19%, implying a market value of roughly $2.1 trillion at the close, according to the Associated Press. The Washington Post also reported the first-day gain. These are June IPO-day figures, not October prices or valuations. Associated Press · The Washington Post

Is Elon Musk a trillionaire again?
The October report said a Forbes live tally put Musk back above the $1 trillion threshold. The precise tally, timestamp and calculation were not verified in the accessible coverage, so the claim is best read as a reported estimate rather than an independently confirmed total. It concerns the estimated value of holdings that can rise or fall with share prices—not cash received from selling stock.
For perspective, the Associated Press reported that Forbes estimated Musk’s combined SpaceX and Tesla holdings at $1.1 trillion at the close of SpaceX’s June 12 IPO debut. That is a dated June estimate, not an October valuation. The Washington Post likewise reported the combined-holdings estimate and noted that it excluded conditional SpaceX shares tied to performance goals. A company’s market capitalization and an individual’s net worth are also different measures: the first values the company’s equity, while the second estimates the value of a person’s assets and holdings.

How much is Musk’s SpaceX stake worth?
The October coverage does not establish a precise current value for Musk’s SpaceX stake. The $1.1 trillion figure reported for June was an estimate of his combined SpaceX and Tesla holdings, not SpaceX alone. It should not be used as a current stake valuation or treated as a cash balance. Associated Press

The roughly $2.1 trillion market value reported at the June 12 close was an IPO-day market capitalization implied by public trading. It is separate from Musk’s personal net-worth estimate and cannot be carried forward as SpaceX’s October value. The June reports also show how large the company’s debut was: speaking at SpaceX’s Starbase, Texas headquarters that day, Musk said, “It is certainly hard to believe that a little company that started in a warehouse in El Segundo [in California] is now going public with the largest IPO ever,” as quoted by The Washington Post.

What the October milestone does—and does not—show
- It shows: secondary coverage reported an almost 8% gain on October 5 and a return above the mid-June share level, alongside a Forbes-attributed estimate putting Musk above $1 trillion.
- It does not establish: an exact October closing price, a precise timestamped net-worth tally, how much cash Musk holds, or a current standalone valuation of SpaceX.
