Southeast Asia Startup Funding: The 2025 Picture and H1 2026 Update

Southeast Asian startup funding is above its recent low in the latest regional data, but the headline does not show a broad recovery. DealStreetAsia reported $7.25 billion across 217 transactions in H1 2026; a single $4.5 billion DayOne Series C accounted for most of that total. For a fuller-year baseline, the 2025 Singapore Venture Funding Landscape report says ASEAN-6 deal value and volume both fell to a four-year low. Singapore led the report’s regional breakdown, but its own funding also declined.

How much startup funding did Southeast Asia get?

The latest regional headline available here is DealStreetAsia’s report of $7.25 billion across 217 transactions in H1 2026. The publisher called it the strongest equity funding total since H1 2022, while also reporting the lowest transaction count since at least 2018. Those measures point in different directions: a large amount of capital was raised, but relatively few transactions took place.

One transaction explains much of the value: DayOne raised $4.5 billion in a Series C. DealStreetAsia’s accessible summary says the market had moved above its trough, but not into a broad recovery. Its full report is registration-gated, and the public summary does not provide a complete country-by-country breakdown for H1 2026. Read DealStreetAsia’s H1 2026 summary.

Is startup funding recovering in Southeast Asia?

The evidence supports a cautious answer, not a simple yes. H1 2026’s large headline total is concentrated in one unusually large round, while the transaction count was low. The latest full-year regional assessment points the other way: the Singapore Venture Funding Landscape 2025 report says ASEAN-6 deal value and deal volume both reached a four-year low in 2025.

For context, DealStreetAsia reported $1.85 billion across 229 equity deals in H1 2025. That is a half-year regional equity figure, whereas the Singapore report’s downturn finding covers the full year and its ASEAN-6 scope. Comparing the two H1 DealStreetAsia totals suggests a much higher value in H1 2026, but the DayOne round and lower transaction count make that an unreliable sign of widespread improvement. See DealStreetAsia’s H1 2025 report.

Which Southeast Asian country gets the most venture funding?

In the 2025 Singapore Venture Funding Landscape report’s ASEAN-6 comparison, Singapore accounted for 65.8% of venture deal value, the largest reported country share. That is a report-specific share for 2025, not a ranking inferred from the H1 2026 headline; the accessible H1 2026 summary does not show a comparable country table.

Singapore’s lead did not mean that its funding grew. Enterprise Singapore’s May 2026 release says Singapore-based firms raised S$5.9 billion across 472 deals in 2025. The accompanying report expresses the same market-year as US$4.6 billion across 472 deals, down 34% year on year in US-dollar terms. These are different currency presentations of the same reported year, not amounts to add together. Read Enterprise Singapore’s release.

What changed in Singapore’s funding mix?

More of the deal volume was late-stage

Late-stage deals made up 33.3% of Singapore’s deal volume in 2025, compared with 26.9% in 2024, according to the Singapore Venture Funding Landscape report. Early-stage share declined. This describes the distribution of deal counts, not the share of funding value, and it does not establish that early-stage companies across Southeast Asia experienced the same shift.

Fintech strengthened even as the overall market contracted

Singapore fintech deal value reached US$1.7 billion in 2025, up 34% year on year; Singapore represented 74% of ASEAN-6 fintech funding in that report. The sector result is not a proxy for the whole market: it sits alongside the report’s decline in total Singapore venture funding and the regional four-year low.

The Singapore report draws on PitchBook, Crunchbase, Merger Market and Enterprise Singapore data, with EY-Parthenon analysis. Its scope and methods matter when comparing its figures with other providers’ totals. View the Singapore Venture Funding Landscape 2025 report.

How does Vietnam compare?

A separate country-specific marker comes from the Vietnam Innovation and Private Capital Report: its 2025 summary gives $2.3 billion across 141 deals in Vietnam in 2024. This is a 2024 private-capital figure, reported by Boston Consulting Group for a report co-authored with the Vietnam Private Capital Agency and National Innovation Center. It is not directly comparable with Singapore’s 2025 venture totals: the country, year and report scope differ. Read BCG’s report summary.

How to compare Southeast Asian funding figures

There is no single harmonised ASEAN-wide series in the cited material that covers every country and period consistently. Funding providers can differ in coverage, deal classification, disclosure and inclusion thresholds. Before interpreting a comparison, check:

  • Period: H1 figures cover six months; full-year figures cover twelve.
  • Geography: distinguish ASEAN-6 or regional totals from a single-country result.
  • Measure: deal value and deal count can move in opposite directions, especially when one large round dominates.
  • Deal type: venture funding is not interchangeable with fund commitments, private equity, venture debt or all private capital.
  • Currency and provider: retain the currency stated by the source and identify whose methodology produced the figure.
  • Stage and sector: a change in late-stage share or fintech activity does not establish a similar trend for early-stage or other sectors.
