SoundHound AI is not just a voice-assistant business: it sells voice and conversational AI for areas such as automotive and enterprise use, and is expanding into agent orchestration through acquisitions and products such as OASYS. Investors should compare SOUN with a company only after matching what each sells, how much growth is organic, and how revenue translates into profit and cash. SoundHound reported strong recent revenue growth, but that alone does not establish that it is growing faster than competitors or that its shares are attractively valued.
How does SoundHound AI make money?
SoundHound’s business spans voice AI, enterprise conversational AI and agent orchestration. Its offerings can serve different markets—including embedded automotive voice, enterprise agents and other customer-facing conversational applications—so a single label such as “voice assistant company” can conceal meaningful differences in product, buyer and revenue model.

The company’s Form 10-Q for the quarter ended June 30, 2026 describes OASYS as an orchestration and intelligence layer for building, deploying and managing multilingual agents across channels. The filing says OASYS, together with voice and conversational AI offerings, forms the foundation of its enterprise go-to-market approach. The breadth of this portfolio has also been shaped by acquisitions; reported company growth therefore needs to be read alongside changes in the business perimeter.

Is SoundHound AI growing faster than its competitors?
The available company-reported figures show growth at SoundHound, but do not provide a like-for-like growth comparison with named competitors. In its August 5, 2026 Q2 earnings release, SoundHound reported revenue of $61.9 million for the quarter, up 45% year over year, and said it raised its full-year outlook. The release’s revised outlook is the relevant current guidance; the earlier February range should not be treated as current.
SoundHound’s February 26, 2026 annual-results release reported $169 million in 2025 revenue, up nearly 100% year over year. That is a historical company-reported result for a business affected by acquisitions, not a clean measure of organic growth in a fixed set of operations. The same February release gave a 2026 outlook of $225–$260 million, but that range was superseded when the company raised its outlook in August.

- Organic growth: sales growth from businesses already owned in the comparable period, distinct from revenue added through acquisitions.
- Acquired contribution: revenue brought in by acquisitions and the period in which it entered the reported results.
- Deal and customer mix: whether a few large customers or deployments explain a significant part of a quarter’s change.
- Conversion: whether announced design wins, deployments or backlog become recurring revenue, and whether the company reports retention and renewal performance.
SoundHound’s Q2 2026 filing illustrates why the period matters: two anonymized customers, Customer B and Customer G, represented 13% and 12% of revenue for the quarter, respectively. For the first six months of 2026, the filing says no single customer exceeded 10% of revenue. Those figures cover different periods and are not contradictory; quarterly concentration can be higher than concentration over a half-year.
Which companies are fair comparisons?
Compare the specific revenue stream, not a broad “AI” or “voice” label. A vendor focused on one market may have different economics, sales cycles and customer risks from a company selling across several.

SoundHound’s 2025 Form 10-K describes a competitive field that includes much larger technology companies, specialist vendors and customer-built alternatives. That is the company’s risk disclosure, not an independent ranking of competitors or market share. A peer set should therefore reflect the use case and customer budget being contested, rather than simply include every company that uses AI or speech technology.

What should investors compare before buying SOUN stock?
Growth quality and accounting
Place reported revenue beside organic growth, acquired revenue and customer concentration. Then read GAAP results alongside adjusted measures, noting which costs are excluded and whether exclusions recur. SoundHound’s Q2 2026 filing reports a $41.4 million gain for the six months ended June 30, 2026 related to the fair value of the Amelia contingent earnout. Changes in that earnout liability flow through operating expense. A fair-value gain can affect reported profit or loss, but it is not cash generated by selling products.

Margins, cash and capital needs
Compare gross margin, operating expenses, GAAP and adjusted operating results, operating cash flow and cash requirements on the same reporting basis and period. Account for stock-based compensation, acquisition consideration paid in cash or shares, contingent earnouts and any future financing need. A company can grow revenue rapidly while still needing substantial spending or capital to integrate acquisitions and expand its business.
Customer, channel and deployment exposure
Look beyond headline customer counts or announcements. Check revenue concentration, renewal and retention data, backlog conversion, dependence on distribution or channel partners, and the pace at which OEM programs or other deployments contribute sales. A disclosed deployment establishes that an announcement was made; it does not establish material recurring revenue or profitability.

Product performance and implementation
Useful comparisons include language coverage, latency, accuracy, offline or edge capability, integration effort, privacy controls and independently measured customer outcomes. Use tests conducted on comparable systems and conditions. SoundHound’s claims about superior speed or accuracy should be treated as company claims unless supported by independent, consistently measured benchmarks.
Competition, substitution and execution
SoundHound’s 2025 Form 10-K warns of competition from firms with greater financial, technical or marketing resources, as well as lower-cost or free alternatives and solutions built by customers themselves. The filing also identifies risks around integrating acquisitions and realizing expected benefits, acquiring and retaining customers, protecting intellectual property and securing capital. Its annual report further cautions that generative AI can produce false inferences, inaccurate or biased output and other errors, with potential operational, reputational, legal and regulatory consequences.
These risks make execution evidence important: investors can track whether acquired businesses integrate, whether customers adopt and renew products, and whether the company converts growth into stronger operating results and cash generation. In its March 2, 2026 Form 10-K, SoundHound management called the popularization of generative AI and large language models an inflection point for conversational AI. That is management’s view of the opportunity, not independent proof of future demand or company performance.

Valuation on a comparable basis
Compare valuation only using a consistent market date and a metric suited to businesses with reasonably similar growth, margins, accounting and revenue mix. Enterprise value to revenue can be a starting point when earnings are not comparable, but it does not make unlike businesses equivalent. Share prices, market capitalizations and multiples change over time; the cited company materials do not establish current valuation figures for SOUN or a peer group.

SoundHound’s releases establish that the company reported revenue growth and raised its 2026 outlook in August 2026. Its filings also document acquisition-related accounting effects, quarterly customer concentration and risks identified by management. Those facts are useful inputs to a comparison, but they do not, on their own, establish relative growth leadership, product superiority, the financial contribution of recent announcements or whether SOUN is undervalued.
A sound comparison should use each company’s latest filings and earnings materials for the same periods, separate acquired from organic performance where disclosures allow, and check whether deployment and product claims appear in revenue, margins and cash flow over time.
