Neither earbud is a proven overall winner: the available evidence does not include a controlled, direct comparison of their noise cancellation or call quality. Choose the Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro if its stated IP55 protection, multi-device features, and quick-charge claim fit your routine. Choose the Sony WF-1000XM5 if you value its stated ANC-on battery life, wireless charging, and broad codec support. Fit and current local pricing may matter more than a spec-sheet advantage.
What separates these earbuds?
Both are in-ear true-wireless earbuds with active noise cancellation. The main documented differences are battery claims, charging, connectivity, water and dust ratings, and features—not a verified performance ranking. Sony’s WF-1000XM5 is the in-ear model; it is distinct from Sony’s over-ear WH-1000XM5.

Both models support LDAC, but a codec alone does not guarantee better sound. Your phone must support the codec, and its Bluetooth settings and the source audio also affect what you hear.
Which has better noise cancellation?
The available sources do not establish that either model cancels more noise overall. There is no verified controlled test of these exact earbuds against each other, and no independent numerical cross-model ANC result.

The company also describes a system that processes 384K+ noise signals per second; treat that as a manufacturer specification, not a measure of superiority. Soundcore product page
Sony’s July 2023 launch announcement describes three microphones in each earbud, including dual feedback microphones, Sony processors for ANC, and noise-isolation tips. Those are design details and manufacturer claims, not direct comparative test results. Sony launch announcement

In its July 7, 2026 review, What Hi-Fi? found the Liberty 5 Pro reduced general busy-café ambience but did not eliminate all exterior noise. The reviewer noted that some high-frequency sound and very deep rumble remained. That assessment concerns Soundcore only; it does not establish how the earbuds compare with Sony.

What Hi-Fi? reported that the Liberty 5 Pro fit securely and that speech sounded clear and isolated from surrounding noise, while describing the voice character as somewhat artificial or robotic. The review praised the earbuds’ weight and energy but criticized their clarity and precision. Which one should you choose?
Choose the Soundcore Liberty 5 Pro if
- You want the stated IP55 rating, including a dust-protection classification.
- You expect to connect to several devices; Soundcore’s FAQ says up to three can be connected.
- The display case and the manufacturer’s five-minute, four-hours-in-Normal-mode charge claim appeal to your charging routine.
- The price currently available to you makes sense; Soundcore’s US page listed $169.99 on October 7, 2026, but the listing can change.
Choose the Sony WF-1000XM5 if
- You value Sony’s stated up-to-eight-hour ANC-on playback per charge and wireless charging with the case.
- You want its listed codec selection: SBC, AAC, LDAC, and LC3.
- You prefer Sony’s features and design, and the fit works for your ears.
- You find a current local price that justifies the purchase; the $299.99 US figure was Sony’s July 2023 launch MSRP, not a current-price check.
How to make the decision in practice
- Check fit first. A secure, comfortable seal affects day-to-day comfort and how useful noise cancellation feels. If you can, try the earbuds with the supplied tips and confirm the return policy.
- Match the features to your devices. Both list LDAC, but check whether your phone supports the codec you want. Choose based on the Bluetooth and multi-device behavior you will actually use.
- Compare runtime claims cautiously. Soundcore lists 6.5 hours with ANC on and 28 hours with the case; Sony lists up to 8 hours per charge with ANC on and up to 24 hours with the case in its launch material. These are manufacturer figures, not results from a shared test, so they may reflect different conditions.
- Look up today’s price where you live. The available Soundcore price is a US product-page observation from October 7, 2026. Sony’s cited price is its 2023 US launch MSRP. Neither establishes a current deal in your region.
- Test the use that matters most. If calls or commuting are decisive, evaluate calls and ANC in your normal setting where returns allow. No verified head-to-head test here settles which performs better for you.
