Choose Bose Ultra Open Earbuds if you prefer a cuff-like Flex Grip, Bose OpenAudio and Immersive Audio modes, and physical button controls. Both keep the ear canal open and support multipoint, but their fit geometry and audio features are different enough that neither is the universal winner.
At a glance: AeroClip or Ultra Open?
The two products solve the same basic problem—listening without sealing the ear canal—but attach to the ear differently. AeroClip uses a flexible open ring made with memory titanium wire and soft TPU. Ultra Open uses Bose’s cuff-like Flex Grip. That distinction matters more than a small difference in quoted battery life because it determines where pressure sits, how the earbuds feel with glasses or hats, and whether the shape suits your outer ear.

soundcore AeroClip: a flexible open ring
AeroClip’s ring wraps around the outer ear rather than inserting into the canal. soundcore says the ring combines 0.5 mm memory titanium wire with soft TPU and is designed to distribute pressure. The company also says its wire retained its shape after 20,000 bends in laboratory testing. That is a manufacturer durability claim, not independent testing, but it indicates the intended use: flex the clip around the ear instead of forcing a rigid hook into position.

soundcore further describes an acoustic chamber that is 37% smaller than its previous open-ear clip-on earbuds. The comparison is with soundcore’s earlier model, not with Bose’s product, so it does not establish that AeroClip is smaller or more comfortable than Ultra Open.
Bose Ultra Open: a cuff-like Flex Grip
Ultra Open uses a cuff-like Flex Grip that sits around the outer ear and leaves the canal unobstructed. Bose describes the fit as “light-as-air” and says the design lets you hear the world around you while OpenAudio delivers sound. Those are Bose’s product claims; ear shape, glasses, hair and the position of the clip can change the experience.
A cuff and an open ring can feel very different even when both avoid an in-ear seal. Some ears may prefer the ring’s flexible contact around the perimeter, while others may find a cuff’s broader support more natural. There is no controlled comparative fitting study establishing that one stays in place better or is more comfortable for everyone.

Neither product blocks the ear canal. You can remain aware of nearby conversations, traffic and announcements more easily than with sealed earbuds, but external noise also competes with your music. Open-ear designs are therefore useful for walking, office awareness and casual listening; they are not replacements for sealed noise-cancelling earbuds when you need isolation.
Sound, spatial modes and awareness
AeroClip’s audio approach
AeroClip uses a 12 mm customized titanium-coated driver. soundcore lists virtual bass and Hi-Res wireless audio, with LDAC support on Android devices. LDAC availability does not mean every phone, app or listening mode will use it; the source device must support the codec, and some features may be unavailable on other platforms.
The open ring and acoustic chamber are intended to direct sound toward your ears without creating an in-ear seal. soundcore also lists four microphones with AI noise reduction for calls. These specifications describe the hardware and software features, not a measured guarantee of bass response, volume, sound leakage or microphone quality.
Ultra Open’s OpenAudio and Immersive Audio
Bose emphasizes OpenAudio for its standard listening experience and Immersive Audio for a spatialized presentation. Immersive Audio can change how sound appears positioned around you, but it also reduces the quoted battery estimate to up to four hours when enabled. Bose lists no active noise cancellation in its comparison details, which is consistent with the open-ear design.
OpenAudio and Immersive Audio are Bose’s branded modes rather than independent measurements. If you value a more conventional open-ear presentation, compare the standard mode first; if you want a wider, more speaker-like effect, Immersive Audio is the feature that differentiates Bose most clearly in this pair.

Sound leakage and privacy
Both products project sound near, rather than inside, the ear. The amount other people hear depends on volume, fit, surroundings and the audio content. Neither manufacturer specification proves that one leaks less. In a quiet office, keep the volume conservative and test from a normal conversation distance before relying on either for private listening.
Calls, controls and switching between devices
Microphones and call expectations
soundcore specifies four microphones and AI noise reduction for AeroClip. Bose’s listed differentiators are its OpenAudio and Immersive Audio systems rather than a published microphone count. Without an independent microphone test, it is not possible to declare a winner for calls or wind handling.
Tap controls versus physical buttons
AeroClip uses tap control. Taps can be quick when the earbuds are positioned correctly, but accidental touches are possible when adjusting the clip, hair or glasses. Ultra Open uses physical buttons, which provide a mechanical press you can feel. That can be preferable when you need to control playback without touching the audio surface, although button force and placement still depend on your ear and hand position.
Multipoint for two source devices
Both models support multipoint. Bose explicitly says two Bluetooth source devices can remain connected simultaneously; soundcore lists multipoint connection. This is useful if you move between a phone and a laptop, but multipoint behavior varies by operating system and app. Pair both sources, confirm that audio switches correctly, and check how calls take priority before depending on it for work.
Battery life: close numbers with different conditions
AeroClip’s quoted endurance
soundcore rates AeroClip for up to eight hours on a charge and up to 32 hours with the charging case. The eight-hour figure comes from continuous playback at 50% volume in soundcore’s test, and the company notes that actual time varies. Higher volume, calls, codec choice, temperature and other features can shorten runtime.
Ultra Open’s quoted endurance
Bose rates Ultra Open for up to seven hours. Its product page says the estimate falls to up to four hours when Immersive Audio or Auto Volume is enabled. Because the two brands did not publish results from a common test protocol, the one-hour difference should not be treated as a measured advantage in real-world use.
How to use the numbers when choosing
- Choose AeroClip on paper if you often need the longest single-session estimate and can listen under conditions close to soundcore’s 50% volume test.
- Choose Ultra Open if Immersive Audio is more important than maximum runtime and you accept its shorter quoted estimate with that mode enabled.
- For either model, plan around your own volume and call habits rather than assuming the maximum figure.
Water resistance and outdoor use
AeroClip’s current US product page lists an IP55 rating. The first digit indicates protection against dust, while the second indicates protection against water jets under the relevant testing standard. Ultra Open’s earbuds are listed at IPX4, and Bose’s user guide lists IPX1 for the charging case. The “X” means no dust-protection rating is specified for the earbuds.

Neither rating means waterproof or suitable for submersion. Keep both charging cases dry, avoid swimming and do not charge wet earbuds. Since the case ratings differ from the earbud ratings, treat the case as the more vulnerable component when carrying either product outdoors.

Price, availability and what to verify
On October 13, 2026, soundcore’s US page displayed AeroClip at $169.99. Bose’s US page displayed a $199 promotional price against a $299 original price, but the page stated that promotion ended October 11, 2026. That $199 figure should not be treated as a current offer.
Prices and stock can change by country, color, seller and date. Before buying, verify the exact model, included case, return period, warranty terms and current price on the retailer or manufacturer page for your region. The figures above are snapshots from US pages, not a worldwide price promise.
Which model fits specific priorities?
Pick AeroClip when the open-ring shape appeals to you
- You prefer a flexible ring made with memory titanium wire and soft TPU rather than a cuff-like support.
- You want the higher listed water-resistance rating: IP55 for the earbuds on soundcore’s US page.
- You value the longer quoted single-charge estimate of up to eight hours.
- You use an Android phone that can take advantage of LDAC and want the option of Hi-Res wireless audio.
- You prefer tap controls and do not mind touch-based interaction.
Pick Ultra Open when Bose’s feature set matters more
- The cuff-like Flex Grip appears more compatible with your ear shape, glasses or hairstyle.
- You specifically want Bose OpenAudio or Immersive Audio.
- You prefer physical buttons over tap controls.
- You regularly connect two Bluetooth source devices and want Bose’s explicit two-device multipoint description.
- You are comfortable with the shorter quoted runtime when Immersive Audio or Auto Volume is active.
Neither is the right choice when you need isolation
If your priority is blocking airplane, train or gym noise, neither open-ear model is designed for that job. An in-ear or over-ear headset with a proper seal and noise cancellation is a better category. Selecting between AeroClip and Ultra Open only makes sense if keeping your ears open is part of the requirement.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesEveryday scenarios to consider
Walking, commuting and outdoor awareness
An open ear can make it easier to hear announcements, nearby speech and ordinary surroundings while listening. That benefit depends on keeping playback at a sensible level; neither design guarantees awareness if music is loud or the environment is very noisy. For outdoor use, AeroClip’s listed IP55 earbud rating may be more reassuring than Ultra Open’s IPX4 rating, but neither product should be submerged and the charging case remains a separate concern.
Office and home listening
Both models can suit a desk where you need to hear a colleague without repeatedly removing an earbud. Sound leakage still varies with volume and fit, so test each at the distance of a nearby coworker. Bose’s physical buttons may be easier to operate without looking at the earbuds, while AeroClip’s taps may feel faster once you learn their placement.
Exercise and movement
Open designs avoid the plugged-ear sensation some people dislike during movement. However, the published specifications do not establish that either clip is more secure during running or vigorous exercise. Walk, turn your head and make normal facial movements during a return period before trusting the fit for workouts. Keep sweat and moisture away from the charging case and never place wet earbuds inside it.
Phone, tablet and computer switching
Multipoint is useful for a phone-and-laptop routine, but the feature should be tested with your own operating systems and apps. Connect both sources, start audio on one, pause it, then start the second. Make a test call to learn which source takes priority. This practical check is more useful than assuming every multipoint implementation behaves identically.

What the headline specifications do—and do not—tell you
A 12 mm driver describes AeroClip’s driver size, not a guaranteed loudness or bass advantage. “Hi-Res wireless audio” and LDAC indicate supported audio features, but the phone, codec settings and listening app determine whether you actually use them. Bose’s Immersive Audio describes a spatialized mode, while the up-to-four-hour estimate shows the battery trade-off when that mode is enabled. Neither label replaces listening to the products with your own content.

Likewise, IP55 and IPX4 are protection ratings for specified components and test conditions, not permission to swim with the earbuds. The case has its own rating, and Bose’s guide lists IPX1 for that case. Treat the lower-rated or unrated component as the practical limit when storing, transporting or charging the products.
How to choose the fit before committing
- Identify your pressure preference. Imagine whether a ring around the ear or a cuff resting on the outer ear is less likely to bother you during a long session.
- Account for eyewear and headwear. Glasses arms, helmet straps and tight hats can share the same space as an ear clip. Check the return policy so you can test the combination safely.
- Test movement gradually. Walk, turn your head and make normal facial movements. A clip that feels secure while sitting may feel different during exercise.
- Check awareness at a safe volume. Open-ear audio preserves environmental awareness, but loud playback can still mask important sounds.
- Confirm device features. Verify Android compatibility if LDAC matters, and test multipoint switching between your actual phone and computer.
- Test calls in your normal environment. Try a quiet room and a breezy outdoor location before deciding whether the microphone performance meets your needs.
- Compare both control styles. Decide whether you want tap commands or a physical press, then practice changing volume, pausing and answering a call without looking.
- Check the complete package. Confirm that the listing includes the intended charging case, the correct regional model and a return window long enough to test fit with glasses and headwear.
Important limitations behind the specifications
- The battery figures are separate manufacturer estimates, measured under different conditions. They are not a shared head-to-head test.
- The 20,000-bend result for AeroClip is a soundcore laboratory claim, not an independent durability certification.
- The 37% smaller acoustic-chamber figure compares AeroClip with an earlier soundcore open-ear clip-on model, not with Ultra Open.
- No controlled comparative study established which product is more comfortable, stays in place better, sounds better, leaks less or produces clearer calls.
- User reviews on a manufacturer’s own page are anecdotal and should not be generalized to every ear shape or listening environment.
- Exact retailer listings, regional availability and current prices can change after the dates stated above.
Bottom-line buying decision
AeroClip is the more specification-led choice: its flexible open-ring construction, IP55 listing and up-to-eight-hour quoted battery estimate favor readers who want a practical clip and longer stated endurance. Ultra Open is the feature-led choice: its cuff-like Flex Grip, Bose OpenAudio, Immersive Audio and physical buttons favor readers who prefer that fit and interaction style. Since comfort depends on your ear and the published battery results were not measured on a common basis, choose the geometry and features you will actually use, then buy from a seller with a workable return policy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are soundcore AeroClip and Bose Ultra Open earbuds comfortable for everyone?
No. AeroClip uses a flexible open ring, while Bose uses a cuff-like Flex Grip, and ears differ in shape and pressure tolerance. Glasses, hair and hats can also change the fit. There is no controlled comparison proving one is more comfortable for every wearer, so use a retailer’s return policy when possible.
Which has better battery life, AeroClip or Bose Ultra Open?
AeroClip has the longer quoted maximum: up to eight hours per charge and 32 hours with its case, based on soundcore’s continuous-playback test at 50% volume. Bose quotes up to seven hours, or up to four with Immersive Audio or Auto Volume. The brands used different test conditions, so these figures are not a shared head-to-head result.
Can I use either pair in the rain?
Both have some water protection, but neither is waterproof or suitable for submersion. AeroClip’s US page lists IP55 for the earbuds. Bose lists IPX4 for the earbuds and IPX1 for the charging case. Keep the case dry, avoid swimming and do not charge wet earbuds.
Do both models support multipoint?
Yes. Both list multipoint. Bose specifically describes two Bluetooth source devices connected simultaneously; soundcore lists multipoint connection. Test switching with your own phone and computer because app and operating-system behavior can vary.
Does AeroClip support LDAC on every phone?
No. soundcore identifies LDAC availability on Android devices. The source phone must support the codec, and actual use can depend on device settings and the listening app. If LDAC matters, verify compatibility before buying.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
Which should I choose for noisy travel?
Neither is designed to isolate you like sealed earbuds or over-ear noise-cancelling headphones. Both leave the ear canal open, so outside sound remains audible and can compete with music. Choose one only if maintaining environmental awareness is part of your requirement.
Is the Bose $199 price still available?
The Bose US page displayed $199 against a $299 original price, but it stated that the promotion ended October 11, 2026. Treat that as a past displayed promotion, not a current offer. Check the live regional listing before purchasing.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: AeroClip favors a flexible ring, IP55-listed earbuds and longer quoted endurance. Bose Ultra Open favors a cuff-like Flex Grip, OpenAudio, Immersive Audio and physical buttons. Pick the shape you can wear comfortably and the features you will actually use, then verify today’s price and return policy.
