“SOF at ELCE” refers to Sound Open Firmware at Open Source Summit + Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2018. The talk introduced SOF as open-source audio digital signal-processing firmware and driver infrastructure; a companion demo showed example IIR and FIR equalizer processing. Both are historical conference materials, not current compatibility or release guidance.
What “SOF at ELCE” means
The official SOF presentations archive lists Liam Girdwood’s “Sound Open Firmware” presentation and an “Audio Demo” by Seppo Ingalsuo and Ranjani Sridharan at Open Source Summit + Embedded Linux Conference Europe 2018. The archive and linked slides establish the conference context; they do not establish current SOF support or release status. See the SOF Project presentations index.

How the 2018 presentation described SOF
Girdwood’s slides define Sound Open Firmware as “an open source audio digital signal processing firmware and driver infrastructure.” They present architecture and platform independence as goals, with architecture-specific and platform code separated, generic drivers, multiple toolchain options, and permissive licensing for firmware and most SDK code. The talk also describes public development and user-defined audio-processing pipelines as project goals. These are claims and aims in the 2018 presentation, not a current implementation or support checklist. Read Girdwood’s ELCE presentation.

The slides describe C-based firmware with some assembly, build-time feature selection, dynamically loaded pipelines, and configurable audio topologies. Their component diagram includes mixers, muxes, splitters, volume, equalization, sample-rate conversion, buffers, tone, speaker protection, and echo-cancellation/noise-suppression blocks, alongside host, DSP, and platform drivers and host-to-DSP communication.

The presentation gives an approximate firmware footprint of “~40kB” for text, data, and bss. That is a figure stated in the 2018 conference slides, not a third-party measurement or a verified current benchmark.
What the SOF audio demo showed
The separate demo slides illustrate equalizer-processing examples rather than independently measured listening results. They include a band-pass example built from second-order Butterworth high-pass and low-pass filters, a bass boost using a low-shelf filter, loudness examples, and an FIR mid-boost example. The examples show the kinds of processing presented, but do not establish how listeners perceived them or how they perform on a particular device. See the audio demo slides.

What the conference material can—and cannot—tell you
The talk is useful as a snapshot of SOF’s stated design goals and the audio-processing concepts demonstrated in 2018. It should not be used to select a currently supported DSP platform, confirm a firmware version, or determine present-day compatibility. The archived platform examples and roadmap are historical; this material alone does not verify current releases or device support.
